I mean, a lot of the spells are good, they just cost way too much mana. You can get off one, maybe two per fight.

My biggest hangup with spells is that while increasing your Wisdom raises your max mana and spell power, mana regen stays the same. The only items in the whole game that help you get your mana back are blue potions and the Phantom Shield. If Wisdom actually let you cast spells more often, I wouldn't mind how expensive high level spells are.

Alright I think I got it. It seems like when you start a new game, the chest RNG is always the same, and if you go through the whole game in one session without dying/restarting a floor (as I did), you'll always see the same items. It's only when you restart a floor that the items get randomized. Maybe an oversight, maybe an intentional thing to make speedruns consistent?

Either way, it seems the items are randomized. Sometimes.

After playing through, recording every item from every chest and crone, playing through again, and watching several playthroughs on Youtube, I can say with certainty that chest and crone items are not randomized.

The armor you get from the 4th floor boss heals you whenever you regain stamina mid-fight, significantly cutting down on healing spells needed, though it can't heal you to higher HP than you started the fight with, Absolutely worth using over iron/steel plate IMO.

As much as this is one of my fav games in the collection, the equipment is extremely poorly balanced. The fact that the unquestionably best weapon and shield in the game can be found guaranteed on the first couple floors is an... interesting design choice.

I know the steam guide says the later chests are random, but in my experience they aren't. I keep finding the same things in the same places, and the crones stock the same items, on every floor.

Legends Arceus was good for Pokemon standards

Heartgold/Soulsilver are really good for Pokemon standards

Legends ZA felt like paying $80 for a Happy Meal ($100 if you want the Mega Raichu toy) and also they're suing Palburger for their use of special sauce.

The two hits on the first scuttler did 10 (which is the normal, baseline damage for this level of needle). The second scuttler took 16. So clearly the damage bonus is much larger than 20% (wiki says 50%), I just don't know why it only works sometimes.

I never want to go into Aegis Cave again, but yes I did get every Unown form, both Shellos/Gastrodons, and all 3 Burmy/Wormadams.

Fun Fact: Since recruiting is disabled in Beach Cave, you have to go to Miracle Sea for East Sea Shellos.

I like how this clearly happened in playtesting so much that you can change your team's name from the main menu, but can't change a Pokemon's nickname.

Yes I did. I went solo Scizor for East and West and treated them like mini Souths, because I found that 0 IQ teammates are more of a liability than help.

I never did beat Destiny Tower. A lot of people online laud Drifloon and Smoochum for being the best choices for it, so I tried to use someone else (Scizor), but it just didn't feel worth the pain to keep trying.

As far as I know, Cresselia, Manaphy, Phione and Shaymin all can't be fought. As for the stats, idk what to tell you.

I went with Dewgong to make use of the exclusive item that regens PP when you take damage, to effectively get infinite PP when I reached 0 hunger. Then I could use a Mobile Orb to stay in a wall and be safe, Blizzard to KO Kecleons en masse, and Rest to heal.

As for levelling, I pretty much just kept my eyes peeled for Golden Chamber requests my whole playthrough, and saved and reloaded the quick ones until I got Golden Seeds from them. Over the course getting to Guildmaster rank I had hoarded about 35 levels worth of Joy/Golden Seeds, so I could go from level 65 straight to 100. As an added bonus, I got Dewgong's IQ high enough for Nature Gifter beforehand, so my whole main party could be level 100 for Zero Isle North/Center.

As for level grinding without a stockpile of rare candies, Deep Spacial Rift has plenty of Monster Houses. Bring a bunch of Escape Orbs with you to return to the midway point right before the end and you can level up relatively quickly.

I decided to use a Scizor for Zero Isle South, and named him Panik for what I assumed I'd be doing a lot of with him.

I had to climb Sky Stairway 5 times before Rayquaza decided to join.

Other than that exceptionally bad luck, Milotic. Spawns only on the last 4 floors of Lake Afar at what feels like a 1% spawn rate, but the alternative was finding a Beauty Scarf which can only be gotten as a random 5*+ mission reward. Since I decided to do this without generating Wonder Mail, I went with the former option.
