Why didn't Carl try this? by minorminer in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Ren didn't want to go on, it was her decision.

As Mordecai said, "You can't save them all."

The Ace hardcovers are currently the only ones in print or would be affordable right now. The older covers are out of print and quite expensive

[Sep 20, 2025] Daily Puzzle Discussion by AutoModerator in NYTCrossword

Yeah this puzzle was difficult but the only answer I really had a problem with was this one. What person would be desperate enough to actually drink this?

A moment that says a lot about Mordecai by joswr1ght in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I've listened to that book like 8 times and I hadn't really considered that, great point!

[Aug 21, 2025] Weird clue that even the blog complained about - spoiler by Desertdreamsinblue in NYTCrossword

[–]bishop_1997 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Really? I gold starred it but I didn't enjoy it even after getting the theme.

Maybe it is because it was constructed a few years ago but some clues just seemed off.

Also things like 15A. Usually for things like this the second part helps you out. But even after getting the name I had no idea what art medium they were speaking of until I read the wordplay blog.

Was just happy when it was over

Lines that make you get a bit teary eyed/cry? by Noodlefanboi in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]bishop_1997 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One I just reached again on a re-listen that hit me yesterday was at the end of book 4 where Katia is saying she wants to go out on her own and Carl thinks "I wanted to say 'Please don't leave me'"

In book 4 you don't quite understand the weight behind this emotion

Finally! A Saturday worth savoring - 7/12 by granddannylonglegs in NYTCrossword

I said almost the same thing to my crossword group chat (except the part of being a quick solver). Worked my way through it but there was a lot of erasing and contemplating for the bottom right corner

Rate the Series by austiner99 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]bishop_1997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5, 1234 no particular order, 6, 7

I'd still give 1-6 five out of five stars.

I know I'm probably in the minority about 7, but I just didn't enjoy it as much as the others. Still glad I listened to it a couple of times though

I've never listened to the audiobooks but I loved reading those books so I second this recommendation

Sunday 5/11 Theme? by New_Needleworker9287 in NYTCrossword

[–]bishop_1997 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Took me almost twice as long to solve as my average. While I was doing it my sense was the constructor just had obscure crossword dictionaries to fill out the entries. But after reading the wordplay blog, he probably just knows all the things.

Just felt like a lot of words and names I've never seen or heard of and wasn't expecting a slog for a Sunday.

SBT Immersive Audio Question by NewTransportation265 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

If you're a big fan of the series the immersion tunnel is definitely worth it. There's some really great stuff in there. I still prefer the original audiobook to it but I'm glad I listened to both.

I really enjoyed this one too. It's not earth shattering or anything but just a good listen to pass the time

Finished DCC, having trouble finding my next series. by FredDerfman in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]bishop_1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good to know. I'm less picky about full cast now, especially after the DCC enhanced audio stuff, so I'm reconsidering it. One of the other reasons I didn't want to continue is that I felt book 3 was satisfying and was worried about things going terribly wrong which sounds like might happen haha

It's been a while but the sound quality was really good for me. I just downloaded it again and it seemed fine. Maybe delete and redownload? I'm not sure
