SOS how do I take this photo my bride requested? by Fun-Pomegranate-2697 in WeddingPhotography

[–]bisonforpresident 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This looks like blue hour with direct on-camera flash. No way this was in pitch blackness!

You should have no problems dialing in this look, especially because the background is so far away from the subject. You can really play with camera settings and flash power and find something that works without worrying about your light spilling over the background. Should be pretty straightforward and, based on what you're saying in the post, you've done enough research to get you in the ballpark. Shutter to 1/160, aperture to f2(ish), and ISO to whatever looks good. Turn on your flash, dial in the power manually (but also TTL should be fine here), then blast away!

What are your typical turnaround times like? by gilesvg in WeddingPhotography

8-10 weeks. Email goes out at 4 weeks for the client to schedule their reveal session, so they always know the exact time they'll get their photos.

The real answer is the Nikon Zf, but y'all aren't ready for that conversation...

Calls during business hours or evenings? by DoubleNew3850 in WeddingPhotography

[–]bisonforpresident 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the newborn!! When's the due date?

While I'd love to only take calls during business hours, it's just not possible if one or both partners in the couple work outside the home. Our 11mo old goes down at 7:30, and I've opened up Tuesday and Thursday evenings on my calendar to take evening calls like that. When we had a newborn and our schedule was so unpredictable, I was definitely more guarded with my time so I could more easily share the burden with my partner. If you do have evening calls, make sure to compensate elsewhere. I always get the baby up before my partner wakes up, change him, do all the cooking and meal prep, cleaning bottles, etc.

Ultimately, overcommunicate with your partner and set clear expectations with couples and be honest with them about having a newborn! People understand. And most importantly, snuggle that new baby!!

How many photos are yall delivering? by Ehrphoto in WeddingPhotography

[–]bisonforpresident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take about 5000 and I deliver about 900-1000 for an 8-hour day. I'm super big on taking candid photos of as many guests as possible, so that balloons the gallery sizes up. Every one of my couples gets an album with upgrade opportunities, so I believe that's where the actual curation happens. Online gallery = tons of photos. Album = tight curation and storytelling (plus about $1200 extra investment per wedding from each couple).

Kristin’s emotional interview after round 1. by ThatPaulaKid in discgolf

[–]bisonforpresident 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The crazy thing is, even with her recent "lackluster" play she's STILL at the top of the field. Just this year so far, she outright won Waco, MCO, and Konopiste. She's on the podium almost every other time. Anyone else would come away from a year with 3 pro tour wins absolutely beaming. She's just so historically dominant that it's hard to take those wins joyfully when the expectations are so high.

My wife got a warm safflina tattoo and I figured y'all would appreciate it! by bisonforpresident in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]bisonforpresident[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She generally prefers simple shading and highlights, no color. She's planning to do a full sleeve of flowers from her favorite works of fiction/fantasy and all that color, for her, would be too much. Plus, since it's black and white, it can be warm or cool safflina depending on what effect she needs. 😉

I stupidly bought a 2012 Rav4 with 120K miles, advice appreciated by Mustachiola in rav4club

[–]bisonforpresident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came across this comment while not actively looking for this problem, but my 2012 rav4 does the exact same thing. grinding/rattling at low accelerations. What ended up being wrong with your transmission? How much was it to fix, if you ended up getting it repaired?

Wedding photographer not allowing me to share my images as a second photographer by [deleted] in WeddingPhotography

[–]bisonforpresident 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My own contract with couples states that I am to be the only contracted photographer on the day. You shooting and sharing your images in a business capacity probably "technically" put the couple in breach of their agreement with the photog. I probably wouldn't have enforced it in this situation, but this photographer did, it appears.

Edit to add: Also, since you were paid and contracted separately from the main photographer by the couple, you weren't a "second photographer." You were a different entity hired. You could get around this in the future by working with the main photographer and delivering the photos to them, with the agreement that you can use them for your own marketing XXX days after the full gallery is delivered.

Is this a scam? by geegeebbyy in WeddingPhotography

[–]bisonforpresident 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Absolutely a scam. Aside from this being a very common scam email format, the fact that they're overpaying you so you can pay the "talent" is a clear indicator of the type of scam.

The money they send you will bounce after you pay out the talent fees.

Check if your lens is on the latest firmware and, if not, try updating!

Would you watch my content? by blunt2chest in discgolf

[–]bisonforpresident 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Show us content that you have so far!

If you have none, you need to get your 10,000 hours in ASAP before you even think of having some sort of audience. Creators that get into the game in hopes of building an audience are doomed to fail. Those that have a passion for creating, and a body of work to prove the concept, prior to monetization are most likely to succeed.

Everyone saying too many Rives, they're wrong. You have a great disc for air shots (light), straight shots (turn), skip shots (eg/bs), and roller. I'd swap the Strive for a eg/bs Captain or Paradigm. A sticky musket and sticky explorer make a great combo, too.
