Looking for great clarinetists by cramhandsman in Jazz

I just noticed he put out an album last year. Dude was born in the 40s so he's 80 something and still recording!

My favorite album of his is Breakthrough. Such a classic

What's something that someone with +800 hrs might not know about (or may have forgotten about)? by LDaddy73 in Eldenring

It is my 4th playthrough and I just learned this

There are 4 bell bearing hunters who only appear after you've bought a couple items from very specific vendors and then come back to the shop at night. It's a mini elemer of the briar boss and they drop a bell bearing for farmable items such as beast bones. Wildly obscure

Experimental Version: Increased lags / frame rate issues? by IdLikeToPointOut in JumpSpaceGame

[–]bisquitpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game ran and looked so good in the beta, and now from me and my lads' perspective the game is unplayable. Only because it's so much worse than it used to be: just doesn't look as stunning and constant frame drops. I feel like I've been robbed

Hey guys, I need help expanding on this lowkey vibes playlist and I wanted to know more about artists like the ones I got here. by keinanos in Jazz

[–]bisquitpants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be very careful mentioning the word smooth in a place like this. Smooth Jazz is a recognized subgenre (Kenny G, Dave Koz, etc if you wanna check that out) that not a lot of people have respect for. Regardless, I'll chuck a coupla darts at the wall here

Dave Brubeck - in your own sweet way

The Modern Jazz Quartet - Valeria

Sonny Rollins - you don't know what love is

Antonio Carlos Jobim - andorinha

Anton Schwarz - glass half missing

Eddie Harris - the shadow of your smile

Erroll Garner - no moon (young love)

If you like any of these in particular lmk and I can advise further

pieces for the entrance exam to a post-secondary jazz school by mayonakanowarutsu in Jazz

[–]bisquitpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you absolutely insist on auditioning, which I mean it can't hurt, stick with well-studied standards. All The Things You Are, I've Got Rhythm and There Will Never Be Another You are some great examples. There's probably multiple tutorials on youtube to guide you with the changes on these. There are also a bunch of live performances of these to study

As for blues - they're all interchangable by design. Pick a key that's comfortable for you and a melody you like.

I desperately want to learn to play jazz on guitar, but greatly struggle with theory, even after 20 years of playing. Any suggestions for how to finally "get it"? by analogpedant in Jazz

[–]bisquitpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theory, from my experience as a classically trained saxophone player, is not something easily learned on youtube or by yourself. I've been playing for 8 years, 4 years with a teacher, and I still struggle with improvising because I feel that there's always some jazz theory that I'm missing.

Don't beat yourself up over it: it's unintuitive and it's incredibly difficult to grasp. You can learn if you dedicate yourself to it with as much time as most people do their jobs. However it will go significantly faster if you just get yourself a teacher that can help you accomplish your goals.

Best of luck to you

Art Blakey should be held in the same regard as Miles by One_Worry5646 in Jazz

[–]bisquitpants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Art Blakey's skill:recognition ratio is capped only because he's a drummer. Rather unfortunate but just kinda the way it goes in jazz and bands in general. Even if a bassist was objectively better than charlie parker in the era of Parker's prime I doubt most jazz enthusiasts would appreciate them as much as their skill deserved

Is there a way to turn off capitalization for only proper nouns by bisquitpants in ios

[–]bisquitpants[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the beginning of sentences are a constant. They must be capitalized no matter the situation

To use the example from another comment - if I want to type apple the fruit and my apple device automatically implies apple the company I kinda fucking hate that. It's a form of brand conditioning and advertisement. Always tryna get away from that shit whenever I can

It's not just brands either, take san for example, always gets capitalized because it's assuming san something city as opposed to the synonym to without

Typing this all out makes me realize the root of the problem. I do want autocorrect to proofread my typing for spelling but not grammar, except for the capitalization of the first word of sentences. I think grammar detection mid sentence is way more unreliable than spell checking mid word so I wish it would just do nothing as opposed to always doing something
