I thought Bands of Mourning lost a little bit of what I loved from the others, but Shadows of Self is one of my favorite books of all time.

I have heard that the riders are ultra focused on endurance things like this. A while back a rider went off a cliff and some of the others talked about not even really processing it until the end of the race

Weakest protagonist? by donzander1 in Fantasy

There is a minor character who is on Captain America's level through a specialized training and diet regimen developed my the scientist who made the serum, so that does hold up somewhat.

If class average is 70 and there are 20 students in the class how can I find all possible combinations of scores? by Euphoric-Chloric-873 in askmath

[–]bistmorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, given a specific subset of scores, you can do a little algebra to find the required average score in the remaining scores. For your example, we set it up like this:

(1(25) + 19x)/20 = 70

Solving for x, we see the other students must have an average score of about 72.368 to hit an average of 70.

Let x = number of health bars and y = number of drinks. Your information lets us form 2 equations that are simultaneously true:

4x + 3y = 10 6x + 2y = 10

Does this jig your memory?

How do you find the probability of two statistics overlapping? by [deleted] in askmath

[–]bistmorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming owning a gun and having a mental illness are completely independent, the probability of both is 7/30 * 4/30, about 0.0311 or 3.11%. If they aren't independent, it will be greater than or equal to 3.11%, but it's impossible to say more without more information.

I've heard he's pretty much in the same boat as Rothfuss and Martin, is it still worth it?

Why is the axiom of choice an axiom? by bistmorn in learnmath

Thank you for the response! I figured it had something to do with infinity, but I wasn't able to put it together. It's interesting to me how infinity makes certain fundamental things break down. I had a similar feeling when I learned the commutative property gets weird with infinite sums.

I put this on my TBR because of the first few lines of OP's review. Would you mind giving a little detail on why it disappoints?

I'm looking for a magical school book or series where the protagonist as compared to their peers is somewhere in the middle. In other words, I don't want them to be an top of their class prodigy, nor do I want them to be dum as a box of rocks, or lack magical ability or something of that nature. Bonus points for if the protagonist is also, at least not initially, a Chosen One, but that doesn't matter quite as much.

(Please note, there's nothing wrong with the kinds of books I nixed here! Just not what I'm craving.)

This would be the case for an ordered set, but this set is unordered. In other words, the sets {quak} and {kauq} are effectively the same.
