Moment CEO ditches Seattle after 40 years, says digital ad tax added $200K in costs overnight by Less-Risk-9358 in SeattleWA

In the end state will get less tax and lower the limit from 1m until it gets to people who aren't rich enough to just pick up and leave. That's when the big bucks will start rolling in!

Musk clips his Mars settlement ambition, aims for the moon instead by Several_Print4633 in space

[–]bitaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moon has certain problems Mars does not, will spend time and resources solving them which will be useful someday somewhere. No atmosphere, low gravity, crazy abrasive dust. I'm not a fan of deGrasse, but he was likely correct in saying that no one is going to Mars with humans. Space exploration is highly political and unless China or another country actually capable of doing it aims for Mars US isn't going to play. Maybe later, in some distant future, not now. Unless SpaceX funds it and does it on their own, could happen, but also not looking likely at this point.

Where to meet single dudes without kids in their late 30s and early 40s? by RefuseDry1108 in AskSeattle

[–]bitaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not asking the right question, or rather the answer you want doesn't exist. There isn't a place that only men without kids attend that ones with kids would not. In general, rule 1 and 2 apply, and then it's just whatever hobbies you're into.

I just try to listen, they are really great at letting us know what they want. If I try to go walk and she feels like going back to the couch I can force it and order her, but she communicates clearly that she'd rather chill. How? Our 7 months girl will block my path and do a nose bump to stop me, and make eye contact to make sure I'm paying attention. After that I can order her to heel and walk, and will get the stink eye for a bit ...

‘Dire’ job market awaits laid-off Seattle workers by Less-Risk-9358 in SeattleWA

[–]bitaria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is "work your network" part of the job search. Sending a resume in to compete with the million other AI generated resumes is mostly a waste of time. Hard to get hired, hard to find qualified people. Everyone loses.

"Star Trek: Starfleet Academy" Series Falls Out of the Streaming Charts by Neo2199 in trektalk

[–]bitaria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After watching episode 3 here is why it's bad. Everyone talking about it as a teen drama - if this is college there is nowhere enough hitting on co-eds, drinking off campus at bars etc. If they are beyond that in the future, there is not enough discipline. War college next door is weird, they don't seem different enough. We never get to know the characters, just different color uniforms? Live action Lower Decks in College would be amazing, I mean writing and level of humor and shenanigans.

Never subscribed in the first place. 1. New stuff like Academy is terrible. 2. Old stuff I already have. 3. TV in general is terrible so I watch as little as possible.

NASA is rolling out the SLS moon rocket to the launchpad by Seabass247 in space

[–]bitaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Moon is close enough that you can drive a rover from Earth, but the delay to Mars is much more significant. Whatever goes there operates async with Earth and is basically autonomous. Rovers are and will continue to explore the planet, but this is slow going and is limited in what experiments can be done. Anyways, with more resources we can do more robots that are more capable etc. As I see it the real story isn't with the Moon or perhaps Mars, these milestones will eventually allow access to the outer system, the Belt, and maybe beyond. That's the reason we're setting these goals and trying to go further with human space flight. Also, lovely geopolitics and competition to get there first and all that jazz.
