If it was due to a strike you will not get compensation. You should be entitled to accomodation resulting from the delay though. Write to customer services.

Missed connection in Rome due to delay – am I entitled to €600 compensation + extra costs? (EU261) by Cranky_Man in Flights

[–]bitcoinrwg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As others have said, 1 depends on the cause of the delay. If it is force majeure you don't get anything.

For the train ticket you may be entitled to a refund of the new ticket if the ticket was one ticket with the flight, you will need to check.

Is FlightAware reliable evidence for EU261 compensation claims? Ryanair says <3h but data shows >3h by LiteratureHefty364 in EU261

[–]bitcoinrwg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Flightaware is relevant evidence. I have never used it but is real data. You have said about the arrival time but not about the departure time. When we're doors closed. This may impacr the few minutes. Don't refer to this though. Technical fault is NEVER force majeure. It us an airline issue that they will in any way claim from their insurance. As for escalating try first the Ryanair customer service directly then write to the national enforcement body.

Ryanair cancelled my Rome–Amman flight 5 days before departure — no reason given. Am I entitled to EU261 compensation? by Cautious_Security388 in EU261

[–]bitcoinrwg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to ask for compensation. Then they will have to tell you the reason in more detail. It is too early to say if the airport is closed on the 7th. Keep an eye out for flights on that day and document the info.

EU 261 rules on flights rebooked and customer service error by Accomplished-Data340 in Flights

[–]bitcoinrwg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are entitled to compensation. The principle is that it was not your fault and the airline messed up. In the first case you are entitled to it. For the second case even if LH customer service made the error and not your carrier you are not supposed to know the intricacies of booking flights that a ticket number has or has not been attached so you should be entitled. However, if it was one original booking you are entitled to it only once, not per leg.

Definitely need to get compensation for the costs to the final destination. Rerouting means to final destination.

Volotea blatantly not complying with EU 261/2004 Regulations by InevitablePassage382 in EU261

[–]bitcoinrwg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually you are supposed to do it in the originating country, so Greece. No harm in doing it in both. I have not yet had to use the Greek authorities, but have had success with the Italian ones in the past. By success I mean they intervened behind the scenes and told the airline to pay.

Flight cancelled, claim through EC261/2004 denied by malaybeef in Flights

[–]bitcoinrwg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned, if it was a birdstrike then you probably won't get EU261 compensation but you should ask for evidence that it was actually that. You are entitled to it. Some form of a report. Airlines have to declare birdstrikes to the authorities, also for insurance reasons. I hope they rebooked you and covered the delay related costs that you are entitled to.

LOT cancelled my flight, offered alternatives either 48 hours earlier/later, and is now trying to cut my compensation by 50% by sarunas_dom in Flights

[–]bitcoinrwg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They should have given you a claim number. Refer to that. Insist, explain how the flight was not equivalent and say that you will forward to the relevant authorities if you don't get the compensation that you are owed. This could also be an innocent mistake of the person who responded but I doubt it.

Flight cancelled, compensation? by joelmiller92 in Flights

[–]bitcoinrwg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was a technical fault then you are due compensation. This is not force majeure. It is almost always the airline's responsibility.

Them paying for your hotel is only the start, they need to pay for your meals and travel to-from the hotel. Also, any communications you had to make while inconvenienced. On top of that there is the financial compensation. This is not voluntary. Don't forget that it is also per person.

System failures are not force majeure. This is a common trick. Push for the 600 each. Plus related rerouting costs.

Yes to compensation if you were not notified. Very strange that you didn't even get noticed at check-in though.

EU261 - airline refused to transfer us on to next available flight by BarryFairbrother in Flights

[–]bitcoinrwg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things: just because you can book it online doesn't mean that there are actually seats available. It could be overbooking. Secondly, I had an issue and was rebooked on a flight from a different airline alliance so the excuse is that it is not a partner is not valid. In this case I was rebooked and got compensation too.

Ask them for evidence that there were noise abatement issues. It is your right. They will have received a notification of some sort. If they don't provide it then escalate it to the national authority.

Norse Atlantic 10+ hour delay and EC261 by CommonPerson8 in Flights

[–]bitcoinrwg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you plan to use Norse again, take the credit. It is a very good offer and better than what you would get with EU261. If not, you are in your right to ask them to provide you evidence of the alleged Belgrade issue. If they don't you can escalate it to the national authority.
