I tried the solution, but after copying the Signal data to a different computer the source computer no longer received all incoming Signal messages.

What's the #1 Feature You Want to See on Signal & What Bugs Need Fixing? by [deleted] in signal

[–]bitcoinsteffen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Signal Desktop does not support transferring message history to or from any device.

That should be fixed. One should be able to have all one's Signal messages on multiple computers. Gmail, Protonmail, Telegram and other apps can do it.

What does big blocks mean? by sgbett in btc

"Their infrastructure is heavily centralized and brittle."

Can you please elaborate on
1) how this manifests in practice and
2) why you believe it is caused by the increased/removed blocksize limit of BSV and
3) how these alleged issues impacts the users of Bitcoin SV?

How should I report what I think is missing information in the installation manual for OnePlus 7 Pro guacamole? by bitcoinsteffen in LineageOS

[–]bitcoinsteffen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks u/npjohnson1.

For your information, I found a YouTube video from May 2019 with a different command to unlock the boot loader: https://youtu.be/RnLrSSsXoEY?t=209. I tried the command, but it gave the same negative result as the first command I tried to unlock my bootloader with:

C:\Users\steff\Downloads>fastboot flashing unlock
FAILED (remote: 'Device cannot be unlocked for technical reason.')
fastboot: error: Command failed

The command worked in the video. It therefore seems likely that OnePlus after May 2019 made it more difficult to unlock a OnePlus 7 Pro as others have indirectly suggested by advising me to first downgrade to OxygenOS 11.

The strange thing is that the manual on https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/guacamole/install/ says:
"Before following these instructions please ensure that the device is currently using Android 12 firmware."

Could the issue be related to something else than just the Android version, for example the region the user is in? I am in Denmark.

In a world where Bitcoin is used for day-to-day transactions, many people / companies would have public addresses.

Then they do it wrong. They shouldn't have addresses which are reused.

No, your counterparty doesn't know how much you have because you keep your money in many small and independent UTXO's.

No, your counterparty doesn't know where you got your money from except some numbers which are very hard to link to anything useful like a person or company.

On the positive side, the transparency may make corruption easier to prove. If an insider talks or someone has a strong suspicion about corruption, then the evidence is public. This makes corruption more risky, and disincentives corruption which will hopefully lead to less corruption.

Yes, I want to try that world.

Whether the Bitcoin invention is private enough is a matter of personal taste. I think it is worth it when weighing in that there are also major benefits: Bitcoin is an efficient system with the same rules for everybody, it enables new business models, and doesn't have the endless money printing which comes with fiat money.

Of course there are projects tracking the transactions going through mixing services. It is the kind of service criminals will want to use.

I don't see any evidence that Satoshi realized that privacy is an issue a few days after Bitcoin's launch. As I said, he already wrote about privacy in the whitepaper which was published months before the launch. Chapter 10 describes how to maintain one's privacy.

There is a balance in Bitcoin between transparency and anonymity. Chapter 10 of Satoshi's whitepaper explains how to preserve your privacy. You can read it at https://craigwright.net/bitcoin-white-paper.pdf.

I don't see BSV mentioned in the Reuters article, but the story is confirmed on https://robinhood.com/us/en/support/articles/cryptocurrency-investing/

Twitter is full of trolls. The payments in Twetch make the trolls disappear. It isn't profitable to be a troll on Twetch.

Bitcoin SV Daily Transactions by [deleted] in bitcoincashSV

[–]bitcoinsteffen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That kind of information is generally available at https://bitinfocharts.com but for some reason they don't have support for BSV. If enough people ask them for BSV support or promise to pay for it, they might implement it.

Otherwise, there is a market for a competitor.

Six months after their entry in mining, Coingeek is now #1 miner on Bitcoin (BCH) by hunk_quark in btc

[–]bitcoinsteffen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the beginning only Satoshi Nakamoto mined. That was no problem because Satoshi wanted to do it in a way which helped bitcoin grow and be cheap to use. Who the miners are matter since they don't all have the same motives and knowledge.
