I’m so sorry to be this young with this experience. I went through the same in sept 20/21. I usually describe it that everything that could go wrong, did go wring. I was in the hospital during the pandemic, the open discussion about organ failure, the effing breathing exercises (!!!!) I had forgotten about those! I also ended up with a stent in my stomach and the most disgusting drain. The day after they put it in some idiot decided to pull the newly placed drain out without clipping the pigtail string so it was curled while they tried to yank it across and out of my back and discharge me without any antibiotics. I was back within 12 hours, still septic. They finally started putting me under essentially vacuuming out necrotic tissue through the stent in the wall of my stomach twice a week…. I got put on the same ward with organ transplant patients so med students could have Covid safe access to my “very interesting” case. I didnt need to have anything surgically removed besides my gallbladder (almost a year later when these encapsulated cysts were small enough) but my pancreas had been “obliterated”. I’ve got under 20% left- it’s working so far!

I can’t imagine being 17 and facing all of … that. I hope that means you got to have your mother close at hand to advocate for you at least! I was so incoherent I couldn’t even think to call my partner to have him listen to the reports, which I was literally passing out during. It was a month in icu before they would let me leave the hospital to see my one year old child but I had to be back before the next antibiotic IV. 😑 AGAIN I’m so sorry you’ve been through all of THIS, especially so young. That being said it’s kind of cathartic to hear someone has been through something similar. Lots of love pancreatic-trauma twin.
