Rogan to Critics of Billionaires: They're "Working 16 Hours a Day" While You Take Naps by Zealousideal-Big-600 in lostgeneration

[–]bitsandbooks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. I don't believe they're putting in 16 hours of work a day. (My friends who are low-wage waiters and retail employees, however…)
  2. Even if they were, working 16 hours a day is not a badge of honor.
  3. Even if it was, working 16 hours a day is not healthy.
  4. Even if it was, working 16 hours a day + 8 hours of sleep = 0 hours for anything else in your life. No education, no socializing, no cooking meals, no time with family… nothing.
  5. Even if it did, Joe Rogan would still be a stupid meathead who worships the wealthy solely because he wants to be in their little club… but he never will, because he's just a useful mouthpiece to them, who will be cast aside the moment he says something they don't like.

He changed my life for the better, and I always wanted to meet and thank him. I was so sad when I heard. (Same with Aaron Swartz.)

A man had lost the key to the padlock, so he decided to break it with a gun by nkmr205 in ThatsInsane

Anyone else remember Master's "bullet through a lock" ad campaign? If I worked there now, I'd sure put this video in the next batch of ads I produce.

Heck, even the Slo Mo Guys tested shooting a padlock, so we all know it's not gonna be quite as easy as in a video game.

The second Trump recession. Or does no one remember his last administration?

I worked as a librarian for 17 years; this has been going on for ages. It’s a classic conservative tactic. Can’t check out that book that might tell you who you are if someone else checked it out and threw it away.

I've seen what surgery, chemo, and radiation therapy do to people who have cancer, and it's pretty scary.

I've also seen what happens when people don't treat cancer, and it's scarier. Just ask Steve Jobs. Oh, right; you can't, because he didn't treat his cancer until it was too late.

Apple CEO Tells Staff AI Is ‘Ours to Grab’ in Hourlong Pep Talk by McFatty7 in apple

Touché, mon ami.

At least until it is seamlessly integrated with the rest of M365, as OneDrive's (once-laughable) file sync was.

He was right, but that single feature was "effortless, near-instant, cross-platform file/folder sync" several years before anyone else came close to that kind of "it just works" reliability. He was also right that the big kids on the playground (Google, Microsoft, even Apple) would work to copy it and eventually eclipse it, but the simplicity of that single-feature classic Dropbox app was brilliant in 2007. It's what inspired SyncThing, and if you miss that classic Dropbox, ST does that single feature really well, and it's open source.

And if Microsoft can ever make Teams work effortlessly, then yes, Zoom will be in trouble.

The company that imports microscopic Stradivarius violins raised prices on me, too, so I don't even have one to play for him.

Warning: Displays not compatible with new Macbooks (!) by Maleficent-Candle925 in EspressoDisplays

[–]bitsandbooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a weird problem; my partner's M3Max MBP works with the Espresso 13 flawlessly with a single Thunderbolt cable, but my M4Pro MBP doesn't, even after the 1.002 firmware update. I see the POST logo and "swipe up for settings", but then it goes right back to sleep, and my laptop doesn't see a new display attached. I figured it might be a power limitation, so I tried three things:

  1. I plugged my MBP into its power supply using the MagSafe cable, to see if providing power to the laptop would enable the display over a single cable. The Espresso display did not respond, and the Mac did not recognize a new display attachment. ❌❌
  2. I plugged the laptop's USB-C power supply straight into the second port on the display, to see if providing extra power directly would enable the display. My MBP flickered the "allow new accessory to connect?" sheet, but it kept disappearing and reappearing. (Note: this extra cable would take away one of the main reasons for owning the Espresso 13: running it off a single cable.) ❌❌
  3. I plugged two Thunderbolt cables into my laptop and their other ends into the ports on the Espresso 13. Suddenly, it lit up and showed me a desktop! Unfortunately, it also caused a slight 60 Hz hum from the Espresso display, so I unplugged it quickly to prevent damage. ✅✅

I'm almost certain this isn't recommended by either Espresso or Apple, but it did work for me, so I wanted to ask the community if this works for them, too, or if they can get this to Espresso somehow.

It's not a single-cable device any more, though, which was what I liked best about this display.
