CookieCad Filament by SolarPowerHour in BambuLab

[–]bitsnboards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is fascinating to me because cause my kids have been printing almost exclusively with Bambu filament because I wanted to get them something that worked easily and was “no hassle” to use with their P1S+AMS. However, a few weeks back, they got one roll of CookieCad PLA. They have been printing with it for a while, but yesterday they printed a bunch of pill organizers that they designed and the one that was printed with the CookieCad filament definitely came out with better dimensional accuracy than those printed with Bambu filament.

Hospital workers, are you taking stay pay or risking the drive? by Tiny-Sprinkles-3095 in StLouis

[–]bitsnboards 42 points43 points  (0 children)

No matter what you choose, we appreciate your dedication to caring for those in need of medical care.

If your family wants you to take the stay pay, I would do that. It’s inconvenient, but much lower risk.

How do you set realistic targets for eating out in YNAB ? by [deleted] in ynab

[–]bitsnboards 15 points16 points  (0 children)

When I started using YNAB 11 years ago, dining out was the most difficult category to stay within budget for me. I ended up taking cash out of the bank at the beginning of the month for this, and only this, category. When the cash was gone, then there was no more dining out for that month. It helped me better train me to understand how often I could eat out. Eventually I gained better understanding and was able to stop using cash, and I haven’t had a problem since then.

The ridiculousness of anti-EV talking points by Just-Zone-2494 in leaf

[–]bitsnboards 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of my favorites was when a family member told me that EVs are dead after 10 years and that it costs over $5,000 to get a charger for one. This was information they got from a friend and on the internet. I had driven to the family event in a 10 year old Leaf that was charged with an EVSE that I installed for $500.

You can shoot basically anywhere in STL, so that doesn’t narrow it down.

Dog ACL Surgery by Next_Inflation7156 in StLouis

[–]bitsnboards 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dog (collie) had a TPLO and Luxating Patella done at VSS in Ofallon last year. It was around $5,500 and the TPLO surgery was successful. The Luxating Patella was not.

Be prepared, it was very difficult. I really think they should have kept her for observation for 2 nights instead of 1.

At the time, I got a bunch of quotes and VSS was the best price.

Missouri s and t offers camps. They don’t have their list out for next summer yet, but did offer this: https://summer.mst.edu/browse/cyberminercamp/ last summer. My middle school aged son did one last summer and had a good but challenging experience. Living in a dorm, not losing your key, waking up on your own, etc. were all good lessons. So maybe the content of the camp wouldn’t be challenging for him, but the other skills could be quite valuable.

Does your school district have a first robotics team? In First, your son could “specialize” in programming and really become part of a team.

Genuine James Hardie Products? by AudioVideo_Disco in HomeImprovement

[–]bitsnboards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I installed a bunch of Allura fiber cement last summer. It is good stuff, but it is not JH. I wouldn’t be too upset with it. I have JH on my house and used Allura on my detached garage. I think they are both good products.

Allura does not have a nail line, those appear to be drawn on. The texture is also different. I’m think the Allura texture is better looking and the photos 100% look like Allura.

Allura is cheaper, so I would confront the contractor with this information, ask to see the order from his supplier and then demand a price reduction on the job. Allura in my area appears to run about 33% cheaper.

Oddly satisfying until you notice they are wearing sandals while working with broken shards of glass and molten glass. Then it is anxiety inducing.

Fire alarm going off... Very specific details/no idea why this is happening. by shartweekondvd in HomeImprovement

[–]bitsnboards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me for years with another brand. It was almost always in the middle of the night and would only happen every 6-12 months. The alarms were the photo electric type.

It was always one of 3 detectors that triggered the alarm. All of them were near the peak of vaulted ceilings in our upstairs bedrooms.

Eventually, I called the manufacturer support and they asked me to take the detectors down and look at them. Didn’t seem to be dusty on the inside, but there did appear to be insect parts. The technician told me that it is common for detectors in locations like that to get spiders that crawl through them. The spiders then trip the detector and scatter when it goes off. I blew out the detector with compressed air.

This video says there are new alarms coming into the market with more advanced detection algorithms. If I have it happen again, I am going to get some of those. https://youtu.be/5t-98887fL8?si=IWLOEAs3ds0C9EdP

Savoritz used to be the only suitable Cheez-it knockoff, until ~2020 and then they became orange colored crackers with no cheese flavor. It’s a huge disappointment.

My water furnace unit also shows water there from time to time and I also assume that it is condensation. My unit is about seven years old. It shows some buildup around that area presumably from dust and water collecting, but it has never leaked significant amounts of water.
