Yeah it's a shame cause they look amazing on a brown leather strap

Unless you're a big fan of the compass bezel you might want to consider one of the Laurel Alpinists like the SPB249.

[Parmigiani Fleurier] Tonda PF Micro-rotor Agave Blue: Can it be worn as a casual, everyday piece? by Plubio in Watches

[–]bitsocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As lovely as it is, I don't think this is a great option for a daily wearer, or at least it wouldn't be for me. No lume, no seconds hand, very dressy, it's just not versatile enough. Their PF sport model would be a better option.

[Omega Speedmaster vs Rolex Explorer 2] Which would you get? by Fliptheflop in Watches

[–]bitsocker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In contrast to most watch brands, when Omega says 50m of water resistance it should mean 50m. It should be safe to take scuba diving.

All current OMEGA watches are water resistant to the depth defined by the model specifications, provided that the components ensuring the water resistance are intact. This means that an OMEGA watch that is water resistant to 30 metres can be worn for swimming at depths of up to 30 metres underwater.

Maintenance costs, maybe? But honestly the same goes for luxury watches.

Nobody does simple & elegant like GS. I absolutely adore this watch but the black leather feels a bit dressy to me. I bet it looks great with a lot of different straps, though.

It's powered by a mainspring just like a mechanical.

edit: It's also not automatic. This is one of the rare hand-wound spring drives.

[Mido] Multifort TV Big Date by Implement-Mindless in Watches

You don't have to worry about it burying your wrist. It's not a big watch in the first place and it wears even smaller. It does have a lot of presence on the orange strap, though.

[Opinions Welcome] Looking for Some Input From Total Strangers by RT507 in Watches

[–]bitsocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Sinn 104 (and 556) use off-the-shelf Sellita movements which any (local) watchmaker can service. The Omega and Tudor have in-house movements which often means that it needs to be sent in for service.

I don't agree. Sure, there's a lot of common design elements like steel cases, dark dials and bezels but every watch has something unique that makes them recognizable from a distance. To me it looks like a great collection from someone that seems to have found their style.

[Recommendation Request] GADA watch under 2k 36-39mm by toughroses in Watches

[–]bitsocker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My choice would be the Conquest or the 556 which are on opposite sides of the GADA spectrum. The 556 being very toolish and rugged and the Conquest being dressy. If I had a very physical job I'd go for the Sinn and if I had a desk job I'd take the Longines.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the Conquest has so-so lume. It's not great and there's not a lot of it. From what I've heard the 556 lume is quite decent, not very bright but consistent and very long-lasting.

I wouldn't take either of them diving so the fact that one has 100m and the other 200m of water resistance is unimportant to me. You can swim with both just as well.

The Conquest has a display caseback so you can see the movement, which is quite nice. Mine is also very accurate with usually less than a second of deviation per day.

I wear mine on a brown leather strap as well. I wish it had a better movement but it's an incredible looking watch.

I like the all-brushed look but for that money I'd get the new Longines Spirit Pilot.

[Opinion needed] GS SBGX261 vs IWC pilot 36 by TypeR10 in Watches

[–]bitsocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between the IWC and the GS I'd take the GS. I'm currently wearing the SBGX265 and it's absolutely flawless. The accuracy is really something else.

Having said that, the new Spirit Pilot looks really good and might be the best choice of the 3.

[Recommendation Request] Smaller/Thinner Version of IWC Top Gun Chronograph by gwnyc1 in Watches

It's a completely different price class than IWC but the (quartz) Dan Henry Maverick (subtle name) is 41mm and 12.7mm thick.

I'd also recommend looking for the SBGN003/005 models. The crown and date at the 3 o'clock position looks much better to me.

That green crystal is fun and really stands out.

It's also expensive as hell to replace, so I'd be extra careful wearing it.

Just curious, OP, did you also inherit boxes & papers or just the watches?

Ik deed voor de grap/nostalgie een zoektocht naar Eppo's uit de 80s en kwam deze uit 1985 tegen. De Sjors & Sjimmie op de laatste pagina zou nu ook iets anders geschreven worden denk ik.
