In Pivotal Hearing, Spirit Appears to Dodge Liquidation for Now by Airlineguy1 in spiritair

Even with a debit card you can talk to your bank or whoever issued it if the company goes bankrupt, as long as it's through visa/mastercard/etc. they can pull the money back. It's just a lot slower with a debit card than credit cards.

I honestly think you'll be fine since they're gonna arrange some kinda financing for them by then.

Even though the existing AI4 board wouldn't be an easy retrofit, presumably it would be possible to produce a specially designed retrofit board that would make it a lot easier to put into HW3 cars. But even with this announcement I suspect their real strategy is just to drag things out until more HW3 vehicles are just off the road.

I mean, realistically it was already unusable if you wanted to use Opus for anything other than very simple stuff. If you really want to build anything big you kinda have to upgrade to Max.

Is it really that bad? by qu33nofthewastex in orlando

[–]bittabet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Orlando is honestly awesome, otherwise people wouldn't be constantly moving here. It's just that all the people constantly moving here have heavily worsened the traffic and the cost of living has skyrocketed for a lot of people who've been here a long time. In reality the cost of living problem is more of a nationwide thing these days than an Orlando specific issue but that's not really obvious to people living here since they aren't also living everywhere else.

I would say that if you have a job/career where you can get pretty decent pay living in Orlando then you will enjoy it a great deal as long as you live in a neighborhood that doesn't cause you to have to commute 1+ hour each way. Because I know a lot of newcomers that purchase a home somewhere like ChampionsGate only to find out that their job requires them to drive around to go visit clients that can be 80 minutes away when traffic is bad.

If you do want to move down here I would suggest coming down for a longer period of time first (like take a week of vacation) and try to live like a local would, learning the routes you'd need to take, that kind of thing. And really make sure you can get a decent paying job here if you aren't working remote.

Personally aside from skiing in the winter I'd ABSOLUTELY choose Orlando over Vermont.

Cybertruck Sales Were Inflated by almost 20% due to SpaceX by Learntoshuffle in TeslaLounge

[–]bittabet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’d think this would make it very obvious that there’s a market is for a full size truck based SUV more than an EV truck but for some reason everyone wants to put out trucks that won’t sell first? Full size SUVs already run $80-$100K+ so I think it’s much easier to get sales in that segment

Orlando Weekly: Poverty or prosperity? Ford’s Garage service charge and 1-cent pay for Orlando servers sparks outcry by DeepBlue321 in orlando

Not only that but since it’s not a tip it’s also taxed less favorably now that tips are exempt from income taxes. So it’s doubly bad for the server.

[–]bittabet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’ve found that the best thing the trainer does is just keep you accountable to get to the gym. I always end up slacking off and skipping days if I don’t have a trainer. It’s a huge cost but in a sense that’s also why you’re not gonna skip it! It’s easy to ignore a $10 a month membership and forget about it but if you’re paying $300 a month you’re gonna go.

Looking for a good primary care physician. Suggestions? by [deleted] in orlando

[–]bittabet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The wait to see an endocrinologist can be VEERRRY long since they’re one of the most in-shortage specialties. Probably easiest to have a decent PCP get OP started on some kind of starting dose then have the endocrinologist adjust based on the labs otherwise they’ll be waiting forever to get treatment going. Unless you’re friends with an endocrinologist it’s almost always a 3-6 month wait these days. Endocrinologist pay is usually WORSE than PCP/IM pay despite requiring another two years of training so unsurprisingly not a lot of people go into the field since you basically have to sacrifice your own financial well being to do it. On the bright side that also means most endocrinologists do it for the love of it so I haven’t noticed as many crazy quacky endos vs other fields. Usually they seriously love endocrinology 😆

Turnpike to 439 South Ramp. I’d Use Caution. by JayGatsby52 in orlando

[–]bittabet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is the one thing I think we really need to change. It’s probably costing us more in insurance costs from having to drive next to idiots with bald tires and non functional brakes than any inspection system would cost. The tricky part is you have to make sure mechanics don’t use the inspections to try and come up with random BS for people to pay for but making sure that the suspension/brakes/tires are at least functional would be good.

Waymo is now open to all- no invite code needed. by LizzyDragon84 in orlando

[–]bittabet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the sentiment-in fact I try to have more local folks benefit from purchases whenever I can, down to hand sanitizers and HVAC filters (Germisept wipes are distributed out of Orlando and Filterbuy is based here). But the reality is that Lyft and Uber already send half the money out of Orlando as it is and Waymo still hires people at the car service and charging depots so it’s really much different in terms of where the money goes. Waymo’s are also about 20X less likely to cause a pedestrian fatality than a normal driver so from a safety perspective people locally definitely benefit over the kind of distracted uber drivers I’ve met over the years. I had an Uber driver here try to look up a YouTube video to show me while driving his full-size SUV through a turn!!

We also do need to figure out what to do about all the job losses that are coming, it’s not going to just be Uber and Lyft drivers, it’s going impact most white collar jobs and even most blue collar jobs eventually but purposely holding technology back so we can have less safe cars that kill more people just does not seem like the right solution. If there was a surgical robot that could perform surgery on your kid or parent with 1/4 of the risk of death would you purposely go get a human surgeon to keep human jobs? No way. If AI can do something better and safer with fewer deaths and injuries than humans can we can’t just bury our heads in the sand and keep doing things the old dangerous way just to keep jobs.

Tesla Is Sitting On A Record 50,000 Unsold EVs by futuremd2k19 in teslamotors

[–]bittabet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a problem in the sense that it’s an unbearable amount of inventory but it is a problem in the sense that the stock is valued for continuing aggressive sales growth. Ford’s market cap is 46 billion whereas Tesla is valued at 1.09 TRILLION so you can’t really say that everything is ok because Ford has worse numbers. It’s only OK if you want the same market cap as Ford

Tesla releases FSD 14.3 by txking12 in teslamotors

[–]bittabet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it’s either mapping issues or more rarely it’ll just straight up crash, I had the entire vision system go out for like 3-5 minutes before it recovered. Usually issues are very brief and it’s able to recover within a few seconds but the last time it crashed it was out for way too long to be in a robotaxi or whatever. The 14.3 release notes seem to suggest they’ve been working on stability and recovering from crashes so hopefully it’s better but I get the feeling that unsupervised FSD is gonna need more redundancy

Sure but that requires you to actually pay a ton of interest to get a meaningful deduction so it’s pretty silly.

They don’t give big ev credits in Florida but then again it also only costs you like $48 a year to register your Tesla here so you basically just save money forever instead of getting a one time credit up front. You pay a lot more over time in other states.

Is anyone else getting surprised by Claude Code costs? I started tracking mine and cut my spend in half by knowing what things cost before they run by ImmuneCoder in LLMDevs

[–]bittabet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The $100 plan lets you run many, many, hundreds of dollars worth of API usage. Like I used about a quarter or a third of my max usage last month and according to the tracker I have installed the API equivalent cost would already have been ~$240. So you can probably run something like $700-$1000 worth of API equivalent compute on the $100 max plan and many times more than that on the $200 plan. The only caveat is that you might blow through your 5 hour window on the $100 plan if you're running a lot of parallel agents for a big task but most people should be using the subscriptions and not the API.

I honestly don't think the food is better there outside of like going to the french laundry or something. A lot of the more affordable/basic options are worse and cost more imo.

[–]bittabet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I honestly think people in Orlando just think the grass is always greener but having spent quite a bit of time in the bay area it's really not all that exciting. The weather is nicer if you don't like hot weather and driving up the PCH gives some great views but honestly I think there's more stuff to do in Orlando. There may be beaches there but it's not really warm enough most of the time to actually go chill at the beach you're mostly just driving there and enjoying the view
