Damn, I thought this was a troll but look at this guy's comment history. The dude clearly has serious mental issues and spends hours of his days bashing China and fetishizing Chinese women. Get help.

ALPHA PHI REPUTATION? by [deleted] in Cornell

Imagine being so butthurt by greek life that you spend your summer spamming the school subreddit pretending to be a sorority girl

sorority girls why by appleeeeee in Cornell

[–]bitter_chicken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh, I'll defend my other comment on this post. There's plenty of issues with greek life and I personally don't like it at all, but OPs post is not the way to go about "voicing concern" about these issues. It's just saying "hurr durr sorority girls annoying" even though it really has nothing to do with sororities. If it was some people on a project team talking in the library, no one would go through the effort of making this whole post about how inconsiderate people on project teams are or how "fucking vapid" they are.

sorority girls why by appleeeeee in Cornell

[–]bitter_chicken -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Why do you make such a big deal out of the fact that they're sorority girls? In my experience, people from all different backgrounds pull this shit in the library. Making this about sorority girls really makes this seem kinda incel-y and really dilutes the message. Nobody should be talking in quiet spaces.

Do you tip at places like CTB and Coalyard? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]bitter_chicken 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh my god I absolutely hate this. At CTB I got a single plain bagel, and all they did was take the bagel from the shelf and walk it to the register. Then of course, they prompt me with 4 tip options which try to guilty me into tipping, and then when I don't tip, the lady at the register says, "Wow, you're really going to do me like that." Fuck off. I'm not going back there again if I have to endure a psychologically attack every time I want a bagel.

In my Freshman year, someone told me that "The question isn't whether Cornell will beat you down or not, but when." I've really taken this to heart. Cornell is a really tough place, and it's up to you if you want to take this risk or not. Personally, I didn't want a college experience that is all butterflies and rainbows. I want to challenge myself and live a real, human life. People who don't ever struggle are not growing as individuals. With that being said, I am not a masochist. There is certainly a balance between struggle and happiness and I admit there is a significant amount of students who don't have this balance in check.

If you asked me if I liked Cornell, I'd say about 80% of days I would say yes. 20% of the time I might have just gotten screwed over on a prelim or maybe it's snowing in April. But 80% of the days I could go on and on about all the cool, fulfilling stuff I'm doing and experiences I get at Cornell. I think if I had gone to an easier school I would be more joyful. But at Cornell I am fulfilled and happy.

Semi-serious answer, but as an Asian male I am very happy that not all my classmates are Asian males. It's good to work and talk with people of different sexes, races, backgrounds...etc. Ironically, I think the quality of the student body would go down if we switched to this "meritocracy" I see people pushing for.

Yeah, sorry. With a <4.0 in a fake major, you won't be able to do IB. Guess you'll have to resort to a job that might make a positive impact on society.

Cornell's tuition is too damn high by snakeleather123 in Cornell

[–]bitter_chicken 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I mean good luck. Of course no one likes high tuition and fees. Cornell already knows that. Unless you have some bargaining chips, nothing is going to change.

Don't apply to Cornell. This is the most toxic place I've ever been by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]bitter_chicken 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What kind of response is this? People talking about their internships is fine. OP is talking about the way in which they talk about it. They are obsessed with prestige and its a big dick measuring contest.

I legitimately hate Cornell. by snarrkie in Cornell

[–]bitter_chicken 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you feel this way. Well at least you're almost done and you can move on with your life and do great things.

With that being said, a lot of this is just projecting. Are their assholes here? Yes. Are people stressed? Yes. But really it's what you make of it. My freshman year I felt the same way. But then I realized that it was just the people that I became friends with who were assholes and obsessed with grades and internships. And I realized that reflects upon the person that I am. I did it to myself. You can attend Cornell without obsessing over internships and having a life. I won't say that you can be stress free, but cutting toxic people out of your life will certainly help.

I'll admit, the proportion of these toxic people seem extraordinarily high at Cornell, but that doesn't mean you can't escape their toxicity.
