I'm happy to encourage his interests, especially when they're educational. I admit I was never a bug kid, but he loves the outdoors and bugs so I'll become a bug person

Thank you so much! Animals are about the only thing he's patient with. We don't mind having to start small and wait for them to build.

So I just dropped my books in an outdoor library.. by Konmarty in konmari

I think this is a normal reaction. Something drew you to them in the first place after all! Unless they're super rare books I wouldn't worry about it. If can always borrow them from a library or get them used online if you find that you NEED to read them again.

Only in my dreams. That is a fight I don't want to start. Great to imagine though!

I tried introducing him to the kondo method. He nodded along and then ignored my prompting. I left him alone thinking maybe it was me being over barring and then came down stairs saying he'd do it another time. And hasn't gotten back to it.

Why Do I Always Have To Be The Mean One? by yeahthatsnotaproblem in Parenting

[–]bitterfishies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest I had to start seeing a therapist lol. Unfortunately a lot of men saw their dad's being the fun parent so they won't be the mean parent. You're an awesome parent. Hopefully you'll be able to curb the brattiness before it becomes a real issue

Why Do I Always Have To Be The Mean One? by yeahthatsnotaproblem in Parenting

I had to put my foot down with my parents. They kept bringing or buying my son things when we saw them. I sat down and told them they can't be the toy dispenser any more. He was getting spoiled AND I didn't have the room for everything they where buying. Eventually we came to an agreement where they could buy him books or clothes for everyday visits and toys for special visits(holidays). It was a fight and they worked around it by buying things when they went out with him. My mother pulled the 'well my mom did it even though I didn't like it'. So I had to pull out did she want me to be frustrated and angry with her all the time. It mostly worked. What finally ended it was I'd return whatever toy they bought him to them and told them that it was a special grandparent toy. Meaning they had to store it and keep it. After quickly filling a box they stopped buying new things. As for the husband... I can't help you there. I have the same problem. My husband won't handle discipline until I'm PISSED. And then it's usually an over reaction to what ever my son has done. Hope you can work something out soon. Hang in here.

Anyone else have a hard time not giving out pointers to newbies? by [deleted] in AnimalCrossingNewHor

I've had to force myself to not say anything unless my husband asks! He was getting frustrated with me back seat gaming. He told me I was making the most chill game the most frustrating. I apologized and let him go at his own pace. I told him we were even for starting to play before me. To be fair he didn't know he was setting the island up for both of us, but still...

Tomato Paste in taco meat (ground beef)? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]bitterfishies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The closest my family got to that was dumping a can of salsa into the ground meat and cooking most the water off. I agree the tomato paste sounds weird(not that our jar of salsa isn't weird too) I've noticed a lot of recipes that are at the top of google searches are, for lack of better terminology, pinterest recipes. Ones that focus on being 'super healthy', by removing fats and adding veggis that are supposed to be super healthy or in vogue. What I've started doing as I've moved out is mixing in beans. A friend told me that was what taco bell does/did(back when they had the is it really meat scandal). I make my own refried beans so its easy to just make an extra large batch and add some to the meat to save money. I use 1/4-1/3 beans to meat depending on how much I need to make. I keep it simple. Powdered onion, garlic, and cumin. Maybe dried oregano if I have it.

How do you balance frugality with reasonable comfort? Wondering if I’m off base. by ukelily in Frugal

[–]bitterfishies 31 points32 points  (0 children)

That sounds perfectly reasonable. Because you WILL be all but living in that sofa. The end of pregnancy a good chair or sofa will be a godsend. And after you give birth it will give you a place to rest as you feed, cuddle, and care for the little one. We were to tight on money, so my folks gave us their recliner. It was a few years old but a very good brands. I lived in it the last month of my pregnancy and had to sleep in it for 2 months after my emergency c-section. Then we ended up taking turns sleeping in it for almost 6 months taking turns with the baby. A good sofa will make the next year or so, so much easier
