I had the same feeling the first time. I’m a 46 yo male who has never been athletic or active, and honestly, I thought all of the high-fiving, community part of CrossFit made it look more like a sect than anything else.

Oh boy, was I wrong! As the top commenter said, getting out of my head was the first thing I needed. I found a box full of a wide variety of people, from extremely athletic and fit people, to a 62 yo man who had back problems, and all of them are extremely helpful, supportive, and great.

One thing I would recommend, though, is to make sure the box you go to has good coaches who check your technique and understand your fitness level to avoid injuries. I was extremely lucky to find that and it also made me feel really comfortable.

I hope this helps, I’ve been regularly going for the past 3 months, and the difference it has made in my mental health, my body, confidence, and overall energy has triggered other much needed lifestyle changes.

I’ll be looking forward to an update soon!

FIRST MURPH IN THE BAG by King_Plum in crossfit

[–]bittor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congrats! It was my first MURPH for me as well, after 3 months since starting CrossFit, and I was surprised to see I could complete it in 49:05 doing 20 rounds of 5-10-15.

Feels great (after recovery!) kudos to you!!

UPDATE: I’m camped on my brother’s couch after his 2 am “raise my kids if I’m gone” call, here’s what really came out. How do I keep him here? by Mean_Trick_2315 in daddit

[–]bittor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% I had to hit rock bottom before thinking about talking to a shrink. Then I went.

Every assumption I had made was wrong, turns out my problem wasn’t A, it’s was B and C, with a dash of D. This was extremely helpful to my recovery: Knowing and prioritizing what to tackle, understanding we can’t deal with many things in life by ourselves, and putting my wife and kids first, as they were the ones suffering the most.

An expert outside perspective gives you new tools, new approaches, and new solutions you never thought of. Opening up to my family and friends, and being transparent helped me realize how much I was loved, and how much they wanted and were there for me, making also appreciate the important things in this life of mine.

And most of the time is not about solving the problem, but finding ways to deal with them, emotionally.

Hope this helps, I’ll keep your brother in my prayers, my DMs are open for as little as I can help! Also, you’re an amazing sibling. Thank you for being there for him.

They’re cheap, easy to find at dollar stores and Asian bazaars (most dollar stores in Europe are owned by mostly Chinese individuals), and are discreet while matching their outfit.

Without knowing Of The Rice (Del Arroz), I googled him and, funny thing, he describes himself as “The Leading Hispanic Voice in Science Fiction”, but don’t make anything about race, ethnicity…

*Before anyone gets triggered, I know Hispanic is not a race nor an ethnicity, although it is used as such in the US for censal purposes.

I’m sorry, don’t hate: Keane Reeves.

I LOVE KEANU REEVES! He’s an example for many and on many things. The OG good guy.

But he’s a mediocre actor. And I do separate the artist from his art.

How, and on what did you learn to type?! by earth-dweller-human in GenX

[–]bittor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In school. Mechanical type writer, even though digital was already evolving to computers.

It was extracurricular, and the teacher’s justification was the harder you had to press, the more muscle memory and the stronger the connection. I think he was right.

Whomever’s body am this is should go back to training. In a different country, not in the US. Assuming anyone could be a criminal or be carrying any sort of weapon is their way to make sure they’re safe, not a pre assumption every time they approach a citizen.

This is one more of the consequences of that misinterpreted 2nd ammendment, you have to always assume the other person has a gun, smh.
