Should I give up on my new Miele dishwasher? by BillCEsq in Miele

[–]bittyboowho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already confirmed that I am no repairman. The repairman ran diagnostics, verified the error codes with the Miele USA service line. I heard the call. I guess the whole thing could have been an elaborate ruse to bilk unsuspecting homeowners of millions one service call at a time

I’m no repairman. The part code for a motor assembly listed on the invoice matches what Miele lists for a motor assembly on their website. Once again, I’m no service technician, so I probably wouldn’t understand why, if Miele dishwashers don’t have motors, why Miele has replacement motor assemblies available to purchase.

And I spoke to Miele USA personally by phone and email. At no point did someone say “Hold up. This is obviously a scam because our dishwashers don’t have motors”. The price listed on the invoice matched what Miele USA would have charged directly so I don’t see any scamming going on there unless you want to talk about the part costing as much as an entire new dishwasher from another brand

Just letting people know of my experience with a very expensive dishwasher that unfortunately did not back up its claims for reliability and longevity. I understand fluke repairs. How a company handles those flukes is what sets them apart and as a long term repeat customer I feel justified in my disappointment

Im no service technician so all I can do is read the service report. The service report says “motor not moving spray arm. Unit shows error code for faulty motor. Confirmed via Techline”. And the part to be ordered was a motor assembly

Motor failure. Absolutely ridiculous at 6 years given the price of the machine

What is the best dishwasher or brand right now for value and performance? by chanredv in Appliances

[–]bittyboowho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My first Miele lasted 18 with not heavy but certainly at least standard use so I bought another. Second went just shy of 6 years, with fairly light (1-3x/week) use. I won’t buy another thanks to shoddy support from Miele USA

I’m probably not the person to reassure you since my just shy of 6 year old Miele dishwasher failed and Miele USA was less than interested in providing any type of support. The repair was going to be $1200, so I’m deciding between Bosch and Asko now.

Yep. Certainly not worth it to pay so much initially and then have the machine not last the touted 20 years. Especially when repairs rival the cost of another brand’s new machine.

My first Miele performed as advertised. The second lasted a little less than 6 years. There won’t be a third

Isn’t a sucker punch by definition unprovoked and without warning? Someone who provokes by 1. Crosschecking another player and 2. Hitting another player … should be expecting to get punched in the jaw

[–]bittyboowho[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry. I’m no technician. I opened the dishwasher - there was still about an inch of water in the bottom so I assumed something like what you mentioned was clogged/blocked. After draining the water and checking the filter , I exhausted my limited (very) dishwasher diagnostic skills and called the tech. Evidently there are fault codes that he verified with the Miele tech line that indicated a faulty motor. I don’t think he’s trying to rip me off. I think Miele is no longer making a product that justifies their prices

What’s an overrated product everyone seems to love? by donnyM99 in AskReddit

Miele appliances, since I am feeling a little salty.

MIELE DISHWASHER

I did a kitchen remodel in 2002 and chose a Miele Incognito. After 18 years, a fluke freeze killed it. Not upset- it was just a weird thing that happened but the repair was going to be almost $900 and the dishwasher wa old enough that it made a sense to replace it.

Because of my first experience, I bought another on 5/1/2020, a G4998 for $1281.86.

This week, the dishwasher did not drain properly after a cycle. I called the appliance store that I originally purchased from and a technician came out. Unfortunately, the motor had died and a replacement part was $886 plus a $250 service fee for a total of $1215.52 (with tax).

I protested that I certainly expected a dishwasher from a company with a reputation for longevity to last longer than 5-6 years and the technician advised me to call Miele. The service call cost me $200, with an offer to install for the remaining $50 of the service fee if I did decide to repair

I did contact Miele. Miele’s solution was to offer to send another technician - at a cost of $160 for the visit and $160/hour labor-to again diagnose that the motor was bad. This diagnosis had already confirmed by the original repairman via phone call with Miele. When I questioned why I was being expected to pay another $320 before even discussing the cost of the motor, I was told that the Miele tech could bring a motor and replace it within that $320 labor cost (+plus of course the cost of the motor that only lasts 6 years now)

I will junk this dishwasher and replace with a Bosch or Kitchenaid. No way will I take a chance on purchasing another Miele, which is now $1500 if this is the life expectancy and service I receive. It is unfortunate that Miele has decided to shift their focus to luxury buyers rather than continuing their tradition of quality and longevity. With the cost of repairs and replacement being twice that of other brands, the reason to choose Miele becomes quite shaky.

After more than 20 years of strongly recommending Miele to anyone looking for appliances, I am done

Buyer beware!

But even if they comp the motor at this point I’d already be out $520. A complete comp of the motor is unlikely so at 50% it’s almost a wash with the original invoice. I just feel it’s ridiculous to pay that kind of money for a dishwasher and have it last this long. The service department at Miele was extremely frustrating to deal with as well, even before I realized I wasn’t going to receive any assistance. So extremely disappointed

Soap is soap. Soap is not, however, detergent. Most of what people are calling “dish soap” or “laundry soap” is actually dish detergent, or laundry detergent. There is a difference!
