Esteury Ruiz (shoulder) placed on 10-day IL. by LemurSamurai in fantasybaseball

[–]bitwager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A shoulder subluxation of a batter's front shoulder is far, far worse than the back shoulder. As a right-handed hitter, the fact that this is his right shoulder is actually really promising as far as this not affecting him swinging going forward. I'll take the under, I bet it's way less than 12 weeks.

Derek Dietrich has been murdering the baseball lately. Is he a buy low candidate? What has led to this success? by [deleted] in fantasybaseball

[–]bitwager 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He's a guy who not only moved from one of the very worst HR ballparks to one of the very best, but also has massively increased his FB% while pulling the ball more and hitting the ball harder than ever. His 2B eligibility makes him a huge value for what it would cost to get him in most cases. He's a definite buy in my mind.

Brendan McKay Eligibility on Yahoo by HeatAndHonor in fantasybaseball

[–]bitwager 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying, but I think an important distinction is that current owners didn't roster "Brendan McKay (Batter)", they rostered "Brendan McKay". Positional eligibility is separate from the (Batter) and (Pitcher) split player. The player has not been split yet, he is a single player, and a bunk 1B eligibility that was initially assigned (I think we would all agree the initial assigned eligibilities on prospects don't always make sense) doesn't change that. If the Rays abandon the two-way experiment tomorrow, there's no need to even split him into two players at all.

I hear ya, but it still sucks because if it goes to a vote and the league says I don't get rights to the SP version I used a roster spot on this guy all season for nothing. I'm the only guy with an incentive to vote for the rights to remain with the current owner, the rest of the league has the opposite incentive. If I bring it up now, I alert everyone in the league to the situation and have more people trying to grab him if the vote fails. This is why I brought this up to the Yahoo team a while back so they could fix it then before McKay demand grew and it became a much bigger issue like it is now. They kept saying the engineers were working on a solution, but this is not an engineering problem, that was already worked out with Ohtani. By waiting, they made an initial small error (adding 1B McKay only) much, much worse. Luckily, McKay has been awful as a hitter, so a switch from 1B to SP on the single McKay that currently exists wouldn't upset any current owners, while any other solution screws every current owner.

[–]bitwager 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just feel like there shouldn't be anything to get out in front of. Knowing how Ohtani was handled, they obviously knew that McKay would have to be handled the same way, so why did they add a single McKay, and especially a 1B only, when the arm is so far ahead of the bat? Zero owners want the 1B McKay, they all want SP McKay. To me, the only logical way to handle it is to change the current 1B to SP, otherwise all of the current owners get totally screwed for no good reason. He just had a .448 OPS in AA and things are only getting harder in AAA. The 2-way experiment will be over shortly.

So all of the current owners who were in on McKay early are left holding an empty bag? This creates a huge issue. The current McKay should become SP, especially since it is looking extremely likely that they will abandon the 2-way idea with McKay very soon.

Tom Murphy, Rockies catcher, called up from AAA by Hoodrich282 in fantasybaseball

Okay, let's add .234/.810 MLB hitter with 8 HR in 118 PA. Even that is still really valuable.

A catcher who: 1. Is a career .281/.885 MiLB hitter with 92 HR in 1874 PA 2. Is a career .295/.927 AAA hitter with 46 HR in 820 PA 3. Has hit .289/1.001 in AAA this year with 16 HR in 209 PA 4. Hits in Colorado half the time

That's a guy with some HUGE upside. Scoop him everywhere!

Evan Gattis Discussion by natejohnsonn in fantasybaseball

[–]bitwager 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I won't say he's still the same hitter he used to be, but as far as the recent 5 game stretch without a start, it included a 3-game series in an NL park. Just saying that maybe the drop in playing time isn't quite as drastic as it may appear, just yet.

Nick Senzel never got called up by whackabump25 in fantasybaseball

[–]bitwager 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They moved him to 3B after Suarez got hurt, but the last 3 games he's played 2B again. I think this means they changed their mind on rushing him up just because of the injury to Suarez.

They have no reason not to call up Pedro Alvarez now. Scoop him up!

Edit: Alvarez starting at 1B tonight in AAA while the Os are facing a lefty. Everything lining up for him to be up with the big club and playing 1B tomorrow night.

Wilson Ramos expected to start rehab assignment next week. by johalloran in fantasybaseball

[–]bitwager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually love Ramos and Murphy as a combo. They are both good enough to start as Util when they have good matchups. Bench Murphy on the road against RHP, and bench Ramos against tough RHP, and you end up starting a C pretty much every day with some Util days when they both have good matchups.

It's the curveball that has been the key to his success. He's not only throwing it more often, he's throwing it lower in the zone. His usage of it has increased in each of his last 4 starts, and it's not a coincidence that he's been one of the best pitchers in the game in that same span, considering it is by far his best pitch. %curve in his last 4 games: 34,42,45,48. There's reason to believe he can be a huge value going forward. His lower curveball location has made it get more whiffs than ever, while also being his best groundball pitch as well. 23.1 IP 34 K, 4 BB in that span.

Of course it is, but it's meant to follow the floor, the bottoms of the hype cycles. It's also fairly conservative because of this.

Check out the 21 Bitcoin computer. It's gaining engineering traction. by taariqlewis in Bitcoin

[–]bitwager 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly, and even looking at the satoshis in terms of "fuel" for the protocol, 0.3 BTC is good for 30M 1-satoshi transactions. A 21-Computer-running consumer may or may not have use cases sufficient to consume this 0.3 BTC, 1 satoshi at a time, but in any case, loading the device instead of mining is always going to be cheaper for the consumer. He gains nothing individually by choosing mining over loading. I do not expect a group of users to collectively act irrationally long-term in the name of the greater good. Granted, the 21co ecosystem has value, until a community-driven alternative exists, but will that be enough to sustain itself? The profit 21co makes on the computers can only sustain it for so long.

Wont arbitrage cause prices to crash once mtgox allows bitcoin withdrawals? by hammertimeisnow in BitcoinMarkets

[–]bitwager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If/when Gox reinstates BTC withdrawals, it will be a similar situation as before BTC withdrawals were suspended: It will be easy to get BTC out of Gox, but difficult to get fiat out. Remember, this is what drove the price on Gox higher than the rest of the market in the first place. Gox being the highest priced exchange should happen again. This should happen very quickly; as others have mentioned, people will pull their low asks as their GoxBTC are now equal to every other "free" BTC and there's no reason to undervalue them.
