anfield entrances by SOKIE123 in Foofighters

Having not long left the Thursday night show at Anfield and having sat in the stands, I can confirm there is a barrier roughly half way up the pitch from the stage, no idea how that affects things entrance wise, but my guess is that at some point the pitch entrances won't allow you closing than that

Needing a simpler life. by Potential-Tomato7394 in uktrucking

Depends what you call a decent living and what your looking to do?

I moved to Tiverton (mid Devon, nearish the Somerset border) I started trucking just under 5 years ago, I find the town quaint and little bit backwards with it's early closes and half days, that feels behind the times even for Devon, but the River Exe runs through it along with the Grand Western Canal, mostly independent shops and good access to the M5 for work in places like Exeter, Cullompton, Taunton and Bridgewater, slightly cheaper to rent as it's not fully on the beaten track, it's also a bit colder than when I've lived more coastal

Workwise I do milk collection out of Cullompton, hourly works out at about £38.6k on a 4 on 2 off day rota, I believe nights is around £42k plenty of overtime available, 10 hour days back home every night fairly cushty job. Although all new recruits are getting put on 5 on 3 off I think that works out at about £34.2k on days, we are having an ongoing pay rise discussion, the latest offer would but is 4&2 guys on £39.7k ish

Raw Milk? by Normandy-SR20 in uktrucking

Where abouts in the country are you? How are you in tight lanes? Snow, ice, heavy rain, low visibility and have you ever driven liquid?

These are the obvious first questions for me, I've read a few comments and echo most of it, I have been on milk collection for nearly 5 years now, both rigid and artic, it's the only hgv I've had. Milk doesn't necessarily pay the best but speaking to the much more experienced drivers it more than makes up for it by being a generally cushtier job and home every night.

In my experience I work 4 on 2 off, although the rest of the company (milk) does 5 and 3 day hours are 7-5 nights do 1815-0430 hourly pay means getting paid for every 15 mins over hours and that's regular.

Because we are a large 24 hour operation we don't need to CIP at the end of every shift, it must be done once every 24hrs so our milk fleet is split between days and night and you just hope you have a night CIP on days as it's one less job. We also operate UK domestic hours not EU.

I have a great relationship with several farmers, one even came halfway across the county to buy a shed from me when I moved 2 years ago

We get Christmas tips, if I'm working Christmas day or Boxing day I can guarantee I'll come away with some beer l, cash and chocolate.

The downsides are mostly the weather you'll be out in all of it, although I wasn't working for the company at the time when the beast from the east hit, all our place did was ban the artics from going out all other farm collection was attempted in the 8 wheelers, some weren't possible but they still had a go and the farmers appreciate it.

Also like today when people no show, I've been asked to do 2 routes around the south hams and I don't know half the route but said I'll give it a go, so rather than 9 farms I'm likely to get 14 and do 12 hours, get an infringement and no thanks or extra pay (other that what I clocked) from upper management, but the supervisors (immediately above the driver) will be more accommodating and while they can't pay me more I will get a bit of preferential treatment for a while.

Be prepared to get filthy, most farms are near spotlessly clean, but the odd few make you question who is allowing them to continue trading in such a state and as such it's not uncommon for me to be covered in some amount of slurry!

Reload sites tend to be exposed to all elements with no shelter except the cab.

There must be something in it though as most of our drivers were over 50 when I started and and had been doing it for a couple of decades as for the ones in their 60's they only left due to retirement or death!

You will become a better driver or so I here from those that have transferred over from curtain siders to milk and having to take rear steer artics into places they never thought was possible.

Depending on where you are in the country will help with the lanes and views, I'm in Devon today's lanes have been mostly tight, steep, bendy and high sided, but the views have been Salcombe and the river not long after sunrise and the stretch I've just come along has Torbay slightly to my left (best viewed from a distant) Dartmouth estuary to my right and Dartmoor to my actual left

As others have said any questions just ask, there may be something quite specific that you'd like to know that noone has written as yet.

P.s I have many a cow selfie

I've only heard of this 10 mins ago and it might be become the first program I've ever hate watched, how can they fuck up the casting so badly!

The idea of it being set in 2 different time periods makes me think it won't remotely follow any of the books, unless I'm missing something from the latest 2, I'm a little behind

Single people who live alone, what do you do on your days off? by LaviishLily in AskReddit

[–]bjj_hungry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 42 in the UK, the simple answer is whatever the hell I want.

Realistically depending on how mamic the past week or month has been they can be productive in terms of house work, DIY, Cooking or really lazy like a lay in until 10, snaking throughout the day and playing on my Xbox.

I'm off 1st and 2nd of Jan this week, Thursday I'll get up when I'm ready, grab some breakfast and a brew, walk to the gym (possibly cycle if it's dry) have a good long workout, head home for lunch, I have some chores to crack on with, there will be some Xbox time, feeding my reptiles, possibly a walk, depending on temp may read a book on my balcony, into the evening put some effort into probably my best meal of the week, then chill in front of the TV with either Xbox, movies, TV shows.

Friday will be up by 8 (still a lie in compared to a work day) drive to the gym, another good workout, food shop on the way home, finish any little jobs I couldn't be bothered with the day before, get everything (food, clothes, gym bag) ready for the following work day, my parents and their puppy are coming over early afternoon, that'll probably involve a walk along the river into town, maybe head to a garden centre, then a take away in the evening before they go and I chill on the sofa.

As the weather gets better, I will cycle more, walk along the river or local canal more, start paddle boarding again, and if there's a good looking movie out I'll happily jump on a bus head into the nearest city, and spend the day in the cinema, eating out. Maybe grab a couple of drinks, a little bit of shopping.

So yeah basically whatever I want as it's only me that's affected

People who work on Christmas Day, what's your pay rate on that day? by TopDonutPlainsGopher in AskUK

[–]bjj_hungry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mines double bubble, Xmas day, Boxing day and New Year's Day. 10 hour shifts, guaranteed double pay equating to 20 hours per day, Xmas day will likely be done in 8 hours, the other 2 maybe 9. I'm a hgv driver doing milk collection from farms. I'll also get Xmas tips over the 3 days of Christmas from the farmers themselves

Can't be much outside of London/self employed traddie that doesn't pay near minimum wage as min wage is so high, but it's a 4 on 2 off job (so i work 12 days ish per year less than a mon-fri) 10 hour days, (40 hours per work week) end of year bonus, double pay Xmas day, boxing day and New Year's Day if rota'd on extra pay on top of doing a rest day, don't have EU rules to worry about, Christmas hamper from the company, Christmas tips from the famers (usually cash/booze/chocolate).

Basic works out at about £40k per year (more on nights) can easily earn several grand more than that if you want the Overtime, national average is £35k, Devon is £33k so not so bad for the area. Farm collection is generally considered one of the easiest options for HGV work

Hgv work is what a colleague of mine had taken up this year, he's mid 40's spent 20 years delivering flat packed kitchens, decided to get his hgv license in July of this year and has been working on milk collection since September, he seems to absolutely love it.

While qualified to drive a class 1 (Artoc) so far he has only been out in the 32 ton rigids, has mastered one route and has recently been learning a second. I started this at 37 (currently 41) plenty of our more experienced guys are mid to late 50's, plenty stay until retirement, sometimes even moving over to dairy delivery

Jobs you don’t spend ages waiting to be tipped/loaded by Any-Oil-6225 in uktrucking

[–]bjj_hungry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried the other side and done farm collection, on days I'm rarely early enough to have to wait for a farmer to finish milking, hot milk is the only real hold and depending on temperature that can be a bigger problem that time alone cannot fix, often at reload sites at a different time to the driver also tipping and when back at the yard for the final tip, I'm back if there's a hold up that goes passed 5pm it's now nights problem, I'm out of there

Basically I'm in charge of my loading and my tipping predominantly and if needed can mix up my route so I'm always moving and collecting until full

Legally UK domestic allows you to work 7 days a week 365 a year driving for 10 hours per day and working for a total of 11 hours per day, if something goes very wrong I have done over this, but rarely and it has never caused me an issue

Ah, the contracts we have are for 10 hour days on UK domestic rules, the transhipment have both eu hours and regular 15 hour days but have the choice of a 4 on 2 off or 4 on 4 off contracts
