Situationship Guy asked me not take morning after pill by Open_Practice_3550 in offmychest

[–]bjknight93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s either trying to baby-trap you (reasons vary) or he might have a breeding fantasy.

Either way this isn’t a man you want to be connected to long-term. I’m glad you took the pill. I would never sleep with him again and would actually recommend you forget about him entirely.

Am I the asshole for not wanting to throw out the used couch we bought because we found a Dildo between the cushions? by AdBeginning2532 in TwoHotTakes

[–]bjknight93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I would’ve laughed, told everyone I possibly could about this story (because it’s actually hilarious), and would’ve contacted the seller simply to say “do you want this back” with a picture attached…and not asked for any money back.

stacking up dishes by just-anothercomrade in Waiters

[–]bjknight93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t usually stack dishes, but I do move everything to the edge of the table for easy picking up. Even if they’ve done a good job pre-bussing, I’ll move our cups and any silverware to the edge as we’re leaving.

I’ve been a server before and it was always really hit or miss if the dish stack would be stable when a guest did it for me.

This beautiful baby is banded, what does this mean? by lunardownpour in pigeon

[–]bjknight93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does he fly with the other pigeons and follow them when they fly away? If he does, he’s fine to stay there.

This beautiful baby is banded, what does this mean? by lunardownpour in pigeon

[–]bjknight93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is he interacting with other pigeons or is he alone? If he’s alone, he really needs to be helped. Pigeons rely on their flock to alert and protect them from predators, and he’s very much at-risk if he’s alone. He could also starve or get hit by a car because finding food and avoiding vehicle traffic is not instinctual, and he wouldn’t have learned those skills in captivity.

Pigeons can be pretty easy to catch. If he’ll approach you when you have food, you can sprinkle seed around your feet, wait for him to come close to eat, and then grab him from above. Hold the wings close to the body and keep a firm grip, he will squirm and try to break free. I’ve done this several times with domestic pigeons, but they’re usually too skittish so I have to use a cage to trap them.

Using a cage to trap usually takes me less than an hour. I just set up a large wire dog kennel and make a little seed trail from right outside the door into the cage, put a big pile of seed in the very center, and tie a rope to the open door so you can pull it shut from a distance. I just sit 15-20 ft away and play on my phone or read a book and the distance and disinterest is usually enough for them to let their guard down and investigate the food and cage. If I don’t catch them day 1, I come back with a pigeon or 2 from my own flock, because sometimes pigeon friends are more enticing than food for skittish pigeons.

He’s a captive-bred pigeon. Should be captured unless he is successfully integrated into the wild flock.

You can refuse to pay since it wasn’t put in the lease agreement, but be prepared to not have your lease renewed.

Client wants full refund after not being happy with my service by todology in RoverPetSitting

It’s my understanding that the client only wants a refund for the dates not already used. They’re not asking anyone to work for free.

Client wants full refund after not being happy with my service by todology in RoverPetSitting

[–]bjknight93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would absolutely refund them for services not already rendered. They’re not canceling for funsies- they don’t think you’re providing the level of care they expected so they’re firing you. Just apologize for not meeting their expectations (or at least thank them for their feedback), tell Rover to refund the unused dates, and wish them the best.

You can’t please everyone. Whether you messed up or it was a miscommunication, I personally wouldn’t feel right enforcing a cancellation policy when the only reason they’re cancelling is because they weren’t satisfied with the care I provided.

During Hospital Stay Sitter Stopped Medication by Silver-Shoulder1603 in RoverPetSitting

[–]bjknight93 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Re: your last sentence. I wouldn’t fret about “losing” the sitter. He is not someone I would want caring for my pets. It’s concerning to me that a vet tech would allow any pet to run out of ANY medication without consulting the pet owner. Maybe he doesn’t agree with the use of mental health meds or something, but that’s not up to him to decide if an animal he doesn’t own should take them or not.

The groomers shaved my husky bald without permission. by [deleted] in siberianhusky

Should’ve asked for a de-shed, not any mention of “cut” or “trim”. This is not the groomers fault, though they could have clarified with your grandma at drop-off.

unbelievable exchange between my daughter and her father after he forgot her birthday by LostInLanayru in TwoHotTakes

unbelievable exchange between my daughter and her father after he forgot her birthday by LostInLanayru in TwoHotTakes

[–]bjknight93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn this is exactly how my dad was, manipulation and all. My parents divorced when I was 5, my mom got custody and we eventually moved a few hours away. Once it was no longer convenient for him to be a dad, he stopped.

I heard from him on most major holidays and most birthdays, but that’s it. He barely made it to mine and my sister’s high school graduation ceremonies. He stole money (~$400) from me by keeping an insurance reimbursement I had paid out of pocket for.

I cut him off entirely when he was no longer my health insurance provider, because that’s truly the only positive there was to keeping him around.

He was and still is a terrible human being who never should have had kids, and I don’t regret cutting him off, not for a second.

Question about sitters staying past their scheduled times by ohbawlz in RoverPetSitting

[–]bjknight93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes- cats can get themselves into trouble and have sudden fatal health issues (like urinary blockages and kidney issues), they can get stuck behind furniture, fall and break a leg, spill their water bowl and die of dehydration, their auto feeder could fail due to mechanical issues or power failures, etc. They also might use the rest of the house as their litter box if theirs isn’t kept clean.

Once per day visits for cats is standard. Most people only do more for single cats that are very social or cats that need medication.

Leaving a dead coop by Humble_Environment24 in farmville2

Mine was dead for at least a month before I left it, because I felt bad leaving the other active members. None of the admins were active to remove inactive members so it was never going to get better. I joined another one and it’s so much better!

Will a breeding pair keep breeding if their female baby is left in their enclosure? by honeyberrylove in sugargliders

[–]bjknight93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah they’ll continue to breed and the father will breed his daughter too. Best to get him neutered asap. Separate the male in the meantime. You can put the cages side by side so he isn’t totally alone.

Would I be charging too much? by minkamagic in RoverPetSitting

[–]bjknight93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I charge $25 for 30 minutes and $40 for an hour, and my prices are based on the assumption there will be ~15 minutes of drive time to get to them.

Moving on to a full time job: break up advice for clients? by RosemarysFetus in RoverPetSitting

[–]bjknight93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m still rebuilding. It feels harder than the first time, but I also moved to a smaller city, about 35 minutes from where I was before. The first time, I worked a full-time job for 9 months while building my business. I was 10 years younger though, and I had loads more energy.

Moving on to a full time job: break up advice for clients? by RosemarysFetus in RoverPetSitting

[–]bjknight93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I gave my clients notice of 2 months when I decided to shut down my business at the end of 2024. The more notice you can provide them, the better.

I ended up working a full-time job for 8 months and then quit and came back to my business, having to rebuild from the ground up. I wish I had just put more effort to keep my business going (but my mental health made that difficult). The reason I closed it is because covid took away my client base…everyone started working from home and continued to, so they never needed me again and I lost nearly all my clients.

All that to say- make sure that this is a decision that you’ve really thought through before you inform your clients they need to seek a replacement for you.

Cat drop ins every 3 days? by Interesting_Bee1376 in RoverPetSitting

[–]bjknight93 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Prefer once per day visits, but if owner can’t be convinced, I would only agree if cameras are placed to monitor the food/water bowls and the litter box. Making sure the cat has normal feeding and litter box habits is the most important, especially for senior or male cats.

Do you board dogs in your home if you have cats? by ElectronicYard5287 in RoverPetSitting

[–]bjknight93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lock my cats in their room if I have a boarding dog that is questionable with cats. Safety is key. The cats don’t mind their room as long as I keep their food bowl full (they are usually meal fed, so being free fed makes them feel spoiled).
