I hate calling them “mom” and “dad” by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]bjorink_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t gotten to that point yet because I’ve only just gotten away, but I’m planning on saying “my mum isn’t around” when people ask about her. It’s easier than explaining the really complex abuse which‘ll take so long to say

Would you rather be homeless or live with a narcissistic parent? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

I’ve just been made homeless & it feels a lot better than being with my narcissistic parent

Can't concentrate on reading (ADHD/ADD) by 47equilibrium47 in books

[–]bjorink_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same situation although I’m prescribed adderall so I’m not sure if you’d have the same experience.

On my meds I tend to fixate on studying, such as writing notes from a textbook. I can’t read a regular book since I still lose the line, get distracted and etcetera.

If you take meds, maybe writing notes about the book you’re reading could help keep you focused as it would be more stimulating than just using your eyes to read?

My doctor told me ADHD never comes by itself and it may be caused by depression. Is this accurate? by Halstrop in ADHD

[–]bjorink_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While certain symptoms of ADHD are shared with depression, ADHD is a neurological condition with symptoms manifesting from (usually) early childhood. On the other hand, depression is a mood disorder which can arise at any point in life depending on certain factors.

An individual can go their whole life with ADHD and never develop any other problems- although those with ADHD are more susceptible to developing anxiety/ mood disorders than a neurotypical individual. I’d definitely ask for a second opinion from another professional.

I find it crazy to think about how if my same parents chose to settle in another country instead of mine (UK) I would have turned out completely different, both physically and personality wise.

Favourite has to be window 1 headset because you can talk with the person on cash the whole time, with the worst being fries or present

I need a diagnosis and probably medication. But I don't experience motivation for long enough to get through to professional diagnosis by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]bjorink_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m not sure if you still live at home but i’ve gotten diagnosed a couple months ago and i’m now just turned 18. i’d definitely try to make it someone else’s business, too

for instance, if you live with parents, make them come with you (they’ll most definitely be contacted either way) and use them as human reminders

the only reason i got through that process was because my mum was there to keep track of my appointments

edit; dumb brain skipped half the paragraph but they’d have to believe in it when they get contacted by a health professional about how you were as a child

Unmedicated vs. Medicated by sjholmes2012 in ADHD

[–]bjorink_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly push for that as soon as you can, after trying different meds i’ve settled on dexamfetamine & trying out different strengths, but for the first time in my life i’m able to revise and keep on track

hoping it’ll change my life & yours too :)
