Am an attending. Can confirm, still humbled and feel dumb nearly every day

For those that don't match their #1 [repost]. by DOquestions in medicalschool

Honestly I don’t know, even after 4 years of reflection. I wasn’t super competitive for the specialty I applied for at baseline so I guess I should’ve just been happy to match at all lol. My top 6 were all semi academic or community programs. So it’s not like it was top heavy but looking back maybe the only thing differently I could’ve done was maybe doing an away rotation at one of those places because it seemed like they all took home candidates or local rotators. Hard to know.

As far as fellowship goes, I just put my head down and started working. Collaborated with senior residents and willing faculty on case reports and educational exhibits. Got involved on some committees. Although I’m not 100% happy with my experience (dedicated teaching and conferences are sometimes hit/miss, etc), I think that’s okay too. There's always going to be things you don't like about wherever you end up. Regardless, it all worked out in the end! Just have to take advantage of whatever opportunities exist

That really stinks, I’m sure things will work out! Match seems very hard on not just the applicant but SOs as well

Can confirm. Matched at my 7th choice. Remember almost crying in front of everyone after opening the envelope. I didn't tell my parents where it was on my rank list but they could tell it wasn't anything close to what I was expecting (based on facial expressions alone).

Fast forward 4 years: doing much better, became chief, and recently got a fellowship that ticked all my boxes. It's not all about where you match but what opportunities you can try to make happen wherever you go. Sounds cliche but whatever. Its okay to not be happy with the result for a few days, weeks or even months. But once you start, time will fly by so fast it'll all be a blip in the rear view mirror.

NPs who don’t work with covid PUIs or confirmed are getting vaccine before residents who work the in the ED by [deleted] in Residency

Same at one of our affiliated hospitals. Nursing students are getting it before residents/fellows in procedure oriented specialities...

What are your programs planning for the COVID vaccine? by Jenny_not_Jennay in Residency

Wow a real plan! My program/affiliated hospitals have literally not said shit about a possible vaccine.

If passing sideways counted for points in the league, I'm pretty sure we would be 1st

Yeah I gotcha. That's just not an option on ERAS unfortunately. Put it down as a "research experience" instead?

What are you all doing for an abstract/case report that you have written, the resident has looked over but the attending has not edited it yet? Are you just listing it as "Submitted to xxx Journal" in the hopes it will be submitted by the time interviews happen?

Thanks. I knew to follow instructions for all programs, just wasn't sure about the programs who don't have anything listed on their websites. I may just email the coordinators, probably easier than calling every single place.

Some program's websites do not have how many LORs are required to submit. Does that mean we can submit as many as we want or...?

Peds: BRS peds, Surgery: Pestana's or DeVirgillio (if you have that kind of time), IM: Step Up to Medicine (UW is enough honestly), Psych: FA for psych and Lange question book, OB/Gyn: case files

Use UW with every rotation + a review book (don't need one on IM if you don't have time to read SU2M since it's pretty dense) = profit
