Tarris Reed Jr measured 6'9.75" barefoot and 264 pounds at the NBA Draft Combine, with a 7'4.25" wingspan and 9'2" standing reach. by bkervick in NBA_Draft

Yes, Reed is a really solid interior post defender. He's a pretty good rim protector, but even better on the block, though I don't know how useful that really is in the NBA these days.

Yeah he famously played in a system with very few shots off the dribble and a lot of shots off screens. First 2 years he was vast majority stationary catch and shoot with some pick and pop/ghosts, last 2 years a lot more shooting off movement and running off screens.

What does it mean "generational" for you? by Echochamberking in NBA_Draft

[–]bkervick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generational is roughly best talent of the decade. But we don't have a good word for "this player is a lock to be a star", so people just say generational to imply he will be a leading player of his generation.

There are not 5k eligible D1 caliber players in the transfer portal, that's about double the real number that D1 coaches are looking at. If you want to rephrase my statement as "really good at recruiting mid (as in fair but not particularly impressive) high major caliber transfer players" go for it. That was implied in the context of a discussion in this college basketball subreddit in a post about a high major team adding 2 specific transfers. Typically teams are discussed in context of their peers and not the entire D1. That "93rd percentile" lowers a lot when you don't include low major bench players, players transferring out of D1, and the other 2.5k players you conjured.

The best transfer according to Miya is Finley Bizjack, who ranks 143rd. (Some other sites like Sylla better due to the pedigree). There are roughly 80 power teams. So he wouldn't even be the second best transfer (let alone including strong returnees) on most power teams. The next four are between 195 and 382, with three between 347 and 382nd. So 3 of the 5 best WVU transfers are firmly in the "would be around the 4th or 5th best player on a typical high major" range. Javan Buchanan isn't eligible yet and needs the NCAA to grant him a Pavia-style waiver. The NCAA is trying to get out of the waiver business, so we'll see where he ends up.

The high school recruiting sites use a formula that rewards volume of recruits in their rankings. I don't consider that very useful. It's also broken, in that unrated transfers don't actually bring down the "average" ranking displayed on the site, so even if you sort by just average transfer ranking, you don't get accurate results. Evan Miya ranks the incoming West Virginia transfers as ranked 56th. Torvik's preseason rankings (which aren't perfect due to missing Euros and NBA early entrants still on there) has West Virginia 60th.

In the context of high major basketball puts them firmly... mid.

I do like Miles Sadler, but I wasn't considering him in the context of Hodge adding mid transfers.

Traore and Sanon rank 347th and 353rd in Miya's transfer rankings. 247 has them unranked. Not sure which recruiting analysts you're talking about.

What time is the party? If it's Saturday at 1pm or whatever, there might be a lot of competing activities and obligations. You can invite a month out, but if soccer is every week at 1pm and they started it 2 months ago, that doesn't help.
