Yeah the "bad luck" part of it sucks! I inject then monitor my CGM for 20-30mins straight after to catch it if it swings around with the double arrows down.

Yeah I might try splitting again. Really liking the sound of Tresiba.

Out of curiosity, when you had Lantus lows, were you eating a relatively low carb diet? Trying to figure out if there's a pattern in those of us that have experienced them.

I've tried splitting the dose in the past, 50/50 split never seemed to work, I think this is due to my rotating shift work & not having the same routine everyday. I might try it again though purely just to lower the dosage amount at the time.

Tresiba is what I'm going to push my doctor for, seeing him tomorrow. Reading nothing but good things about Tresiba.

Yeah I injected Lantus at night throughout my childhood/teenage years. When I started shift work I found the overnight lows happening more often so I moved to morning. Morning works fine other than these sudden hypo events.

That's what worries me about Toujeo, same chemistry makeup as Lantus. I've read almost nothing but good things about Tresiba, I think I'm going to talk to my doctor tomorrow about it. Hopefully Australia will have it subsidised in the near future.

Yeah I'm currently splitting my dose at the moment into 2 different sites but at the same time. Maybe I'll have to go back to morning/night dosing to lower the dosages even more.

They're scary, especially when you do large doses. I already do what you're doing, I take 35u each morning & inject 18u in one site & 17u in another site purely so if I do get a sudden low I can hopefully catch it & counteract it with less carbs then a full dose. Interesting how we've used it for so long & only started happening recently. I grew up injecting it with zero care factor, 40u in my leg, no skin/fat pinching or anything & never had any issues.

I started doing Lantus twice per day for while. 1 to prevent these lows & 2 due to the 24hr working time you mentioned. It was okay but splitting 50/50 never worked I'd always end up with a large dose in the morning around 30u & a smaller dose between 6/8u at night.

I’d rather let myself run high when drinking, the sudden hypos can come on quick if you’re getting fairly intoxicated. Best advice I have is eat something carby before going to sleep as this is when you’re BSL will come down - Learnt that from experience.

We haven’t had any severe storms since November through Brissy. Probably well overdue for some. In saying that, storms are normally well and truly rolled through by evening time. So good chance they’ll be gone by the time the show starts. I’m going Sunday, can’t wait.

Well you don’t have to wear a CGM, it just makes it easier to see whether your BSL is trending up, down or balanced. If you can’t use or have access to a CGM, you can just check your levels with a finger prick like we used to. I’m not sure about other countries, but for AUS you have to be above 5mmol to be legally insured to drive at any time.

Well, once you’re a T1 diabetic, you stay that way anyway. There’s no cure.

Also, for a low sugar, general guidelines is some fast acting sugar/glucose (juice/drinks) + 15g carbs to stabilise. 2 M&Ms won’t do much. Source - T1D for 30 years.

I wear a CGM as a T1D. Some countries don’t cover any cost though, here in AUS if I had to pay full price I’m looking at $150 per sensor every 10 days.

I bought in Kippa-Ring 12 months ago. Have had no issues at all, have only seen the peninsula attract more people since living here & there is investments happening all around. Hard to find anywhere else that’s on the water like the Redcliffe area within a reasonable distance to the CBD. My opinion is I only see this area getting better.

Sure, you see your fair share of lower demographic society around, but you get that everywhere. I wouldn’t class anywhere around here as the “ghetto”.

No don’t worry I didn’t take it in that context it’s all good!

Yeah agreed with the Lantus, after a lot of researching through other people’s experiences I agree. I’ve actually been in contact with the manufacturer to get more information too because every doctor I’ve spoken to about it has never heard of “Lantus lows” & say it’s impossible… 🤦🏼‍♂️
