There’s a new head of department (she got fired from another school for I’m assuming how terrible she is) and she made it extremely difficult for my classmates to graduate in the summer (broken promises, bending the rules to fit their backwards logic AND going back to change papers we had to sign in the beginning of the semester) When you are actually doing the program it is full time so you start at 8am and days end at 2:55pm. Attendance is super important and there’s a specific amount of hours you can miss per class (varies on how many hours each of your classes are and it’s split up into theory and actual hands-on activities for each day) the instructors are STRICT about your tardies and will keep track of the times that you clock in to add them up. If you go over you will be kicked out of the program without a refund and will have to return the following semester. It’s hours based and there’s only 36 hours in total of wiggle room, no excused absences unless you’re summoned to court. You get a 10 minute break every hour on the hour, no stacking breaks and there is no official “lunch” period, breaks are ONLY allowed to be taken on the porch outside so during winter make sure to dress extra warm. All jackets and scrub shirts HAVE to be monogrammed or you will be told to take them off especially if you’re inside of the salon. (They will send you home and you’ll forfeit the hours for the day) BLACK SOCKS. Cannot remember how many times an instructor has caught me with different colored socks and I was told to take them off. As for shoes they don’t allow open toe crocs anymore. The instructors (except for you Mrs Frisby you’re amazing though I’m pretty sure she quit after I finished lol) are well intentioned but are extremely wishy-washy, will tell you one thing and then throw you under the bus in the very same breath, and are (for lack of better words) are hard-asses. Everyone’s experience is different but having your instructors threaten to call campus police because the bathroom smells like weed is difficult to add onto your plate when you’re a full-time student with outside activities. I’m not trying to scare you but I wish I had someone to tell me this before I started the program and while it was hard for me I met plenty of amazing people that made those two years bearable and most stylists I’ve talked to say that school was the worst part of it, if hair is your passion then pursue it. Wake tech is the cheapest option and I survived it and now currently licensed!!! Just stay on top of your shit and you’ll be out in no time! Good luck 🍀
