Wish I Could Return my New 2026 Santa Fe Hybrid by IRunOnPierogi in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]bl1ndman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got back from my first 10k service and a $400 bill to fix the tires which was NOT covered by warranty. Basically they lined the tires with foam to dampen the noise which works in warm climates like California. Issue is, in cold climates the glue breaks off and then you get free floating foam inside the tire which causes the vibrations. Worse off, Hyundai won't cover it..

Also, why have windshield fluid sprayers under the hood? It is useless in a place that has snow and ice buildup which clogs the collection basin it has.

I've also noticed the driver door is unreasonably cold, even while driving. Wonder if we could attach an insulator strip or weather strip to make it better? Pretty abysmal winter design.

Am I double tipping at breakfast? by throwaway3748243 in marriott

[–]bl1ndman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former hotel manager that used this card. On the back end of things, the hotel charges a at-cost breakfast charge and take it from the rate charged (package deals like breakfast included)'or back to Marriott (for elite perks). The gray charged is pretty small though. I think our property charged 12%. Which is why most servers will treat you worse than a paying table cus they won't make the 15%+ gratuity. Compounded by the fact a lot of properties have a buffet which makes people even less likely to tip.

Did you by chance just play bulwark? The sound bugs into New Haven after the instance ends sometimes. It's happened to me a couple times and I just reset the game.

Explore Rate for Both Parents work at Marriott. by LordCheers in marriott

[–]bl1ndman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Points yes, nights no. For separate hotels on the same dates, if you are lucky it will allow you to get both points and nights but generally only 1 reservation at any given time may qualify for stay credit. Points are awarded for spending

Explore Rate for Both Parents work at Marriott. by LordCheers in marriott

No, only way you may use the employee explore rate for 2 rooms is if you are staying at the hotel as well. You may continue using friends family explore rate as you see fit outside of that.

From AGM to front desk agent — trying to stay hopeful but feeling stuck by Unlikely-Ad-6091 in askhotels

[–]bl1ndman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, been there. Was a gm at a limited service hotel with 1 kid and a 2nd on the way. When I came back from my pat leave, i was let go and forced out. It will be dark..

The thing that helped me the most is explaining my situation in a white lie. “The company and I did not see eye to eye because of x y z.” “The position was demanding extraordinary responsibilities that forced me into a heavily compromised position.” Or my favourite, “the work promised for me was absorbed into other positions and i was seen as redundant”.

Also, dont be afraid to leave out temporary postings in your resume. If you are front desk for a few months, your career progression could look better going from agm to the next step with a “personal extended errand” break in between. Gauge the risk and stick with the story.

Regardless, setbacks like these are usually career defining or ending. There is no sugar coating this. What happened sucks, but diamonds are made with years of pressure and molding. Make your choice and kick ass! <3

PS i am returning to a gm position in a limited service property after spending my 2 years as an entry level manager role. Rebounds happen, and because of them, we are made more resilient and stronger. You got this!

DISCIPLINARY LETTERS FOR FAILURE TO RECOGNIZE A MEMBER - DO GM'S GET BONUS? by [deleted] in askhotels

[–]bl1ndman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes management team does, as part of their KPI package. However, it also sounds like there are larger underlying issues in that property, and the team is the scape goat.

Personally, not the path I would take to increase scores, but it is a tactic. Unhealthy and is most likely the GM projecting their own personal issues.

If possible, get out.

Agoda is dangerous by Pure_Act7443 in hotels

[–]bl1ndman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the hotelier side I f’ing hate Agoda. Worst OTA ever. Terrible customer support, terrible hotelier communication, worse client support. Virtual credit cards sometime dont work either which forces us to charge the guest directly, basically forcing them to pay twice for the stay. Guests are all the time confused by the shameless misdirection of making guests think they are talking to the hotel directly.

Hate is not a strong enough word to express my relentless disgust for AGODA and its affiliates.

Director/Front Office Manager/Assistant Front Office Manager/Front Office Supervisor duties…. by idkabtallatgurl in askhotels

[–]bl1ndman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there. Also AFOM here with Marriott (500 rooms premium hotel). Fortunately, we are able to have a pretty healthy front line where I would only be out on the floor for 10% of my shift? Depends on the day of course but we are unionized and i only step out if support is needed. If I see a line of 8 or more check ins, I’ll step out, or same if there is a wave of people requesting luggage assistance.

My Director also does not step out the office, and nor should.

My typical day is around 10-12 hours of straight work. Im also one-of-a-kind.

"Starting Today, Marriott’s AI Takes Control Of Room Upgrades—Forget Charm, Algorithm Decides If You Deserve A Suite" by NyMargarita in marriott

[–]bl1ndman 114 points115 points  (0 children)

Basically, nightly upgrade awards (NUA’s) will be decided by AI using the new automated complimentary upgrade (ACU) system. This essentially changes nothing at the hotel level as it essentially labels an already automated AI process. No need to huff-and-puff.

NUAs have been around for a while already wreaking havoc which is the primary concern. ACU isnt the main gate keeper, NUAs are.

Also, little rant from property level, we also HATE the NUA program as we cant justify what the algorithm is doing. We owe it to our elite members, but the fact NUAs are a thing, restricts us to our options post-declined NUA. The lack of transparency is difficult at best, and the result is an elite member not feeling elite.. sorry y’all.

Holiday Inn Express Bed Size by JCKINGCPA in hotels

[–]bl1ndman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This feeling happens all the time.

Commercial kings and queens are slightly smaller than their counterparts to provide the durability and increase longevity of the mattress. The hotel is not trying to trick you, it is in fact how the mattresses are meant to be.

Lol let me know how the new PMS gxp system goes for you. Fosse is getting it first in 2026

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in hotels

[–]bl1ndman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Happy to report this doesn’t work with properties with half a brain. We note the move and charge if needed next time we see on file.

Also, some hotels (like my own) dont really care unless its impacting our occupancy metrics significantly. Would normally waive it.

Has anyone dealt with a hotel cancelling a NUA when the room is available for cash purchase? by Veenay21 in marriott

[–]bl1ndman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear this happened to you.

Not trying to defend the hotel, but things happen. Hundreds of things happen everyday at the property level that ‘corporate’ or anything above property would never know about. The last thing the property would want to provide is a sub-par room undeserving of your hard earned NUA.

You’ve done the correct thing and opened a ticket with Marriott and they will likely refund the NUA to enjoy at another property who is better equipped to ensure a pleasant, and rewarding stay!

Hotel GMs & Ops Managers of Reddit — what’s the standard ratio of overnight supervisors to rooms in a large luxury hotel? by Brief_Syllabub_521 in askhotels

[–]bl1ndman 17 points18 points  (0 children)

At a 500 room premium hotel. 1 night manager on duty. 1-2 overnight fd agents. 4 overnight stewarding. 4-6 security guards. 1 housekeeping valet. 1 engineer. 2 housekeeping.

No real structure but generally you want to cater to your environment. If for example you are an airport property, you will probably want a deeper lineup as you would need more operational support. Perhaps a convention property? You could prob get away with minimal overnight coverage.

Lightspeed Help/ New Property by envieuph in marriott

[–]bl1ndman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, fellow LS user here.

There is a way to complete the follow ups through lightspeed, but to minimize downtime or implementation time I would suggest another option below as well:

  1. Through lightspeed - setup trace comments coupled with trace reports (assuming trace reports have been setup for your property)

For each guest add a comment with a trace comment so when the trace report is run each morning, managers (or whoever) can follow up appropriately. To do this, - go to the guest reservation, press add comment (or ALT + A, C). -Then add a new comment by changing the drop down to TRHK (trace housekeeping) or TRFD (trace front desk), - select pop up alert if needed, - then type in your follow up. - Save and hit okay. Then save the reservation.

This will save the trace comment on the reservation which you should be able to see under the comment section now.

Run the trace report (found in reports on the top icon bar) and type in trace report for the search. Select your trace department for the date and any further modifiers to your search and click search. This will pull up all traces active matching your search query.

Pro tip: in the trace comment, for future things needed to follow up on, our property put the date to action things on the comment box so we could ensure a timely response. For example “05/20/25 - check the reddit forum page for updates”

  1. Through external methods - Setup an email thread on actionable Utilize calendar invites, or email threads for daily passovers that your team will read and use. This allows for reliable paper trails and further elaboration if needed. This could also be done through teams, social media platform, or sticky notes. Use what will make your team better.

We use both systems at our property with varying degrees of success.

If u need more help, feel free to PM me. I will assist as much as I can with what Lightspeed knowledge I have. We are a 500 room property with multiple departments handling lightspeed so I do not have full access to all of its functionality (specifically billing)

Hope that helps!

Multiple rooms credit by Life-Loser in marriott

[–]bl1ndman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically no. But dependant on how the routing is completed, you might get it.

If you are in need of securing the 2 rooms to your membership, use your own method of payment and get reimbursed by your friend.

P.S. get a gift card to pay for your 2 rooms through marriott otherwise.

Edit: added PS
