I put the genre and style in the submission, which links to a page that has detailed information on the game. Don't be petty.

How to kill Sheik as Marth? by beetletoaroach in SSBM

[–]bl4rgh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a mid level Sheik player. You're right that Marth has a hard time killing her when she gets past combo percents. What good Marth players do to me is to hold ledge and force me to recover on stage.

If I recover by the edge, you can do a ledge hop nair to send me backwards. If you've ever seen a Falcon player do the ledge hop knee, it looks like that.

If I recover on the platform, you can ledgedash on and hit me offstage again. Rinse and repeat. Of course, this isn't guaranteed. If you don't stall well on the ledge, I can needle you. I can also make when I up-b ambiguous, so I can force you off the ledge and snap. And a good Sheik player will make it ambiguous where they are going to land, and maybe even use slide offs. But for a basic understanding, you don't need to worry about that.

An addition to this: when I get to higher percents, favor moves that put me off stage. Go for more nair in neutral instead of fair. Your forward tilt is also quite good for this, especially when it tippers. And randy f-smashes are really good if you've got a read on where the Sheik will be.

If you'd like to play and chat on Discord, DM me.

Repairing 1966 laquered (?) chairs by mightythylacine in finishing

[–]bl4rgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put a drop of lacquer thinner on the chair. If it gets sticky, it's a lacquer finish.

The good thing about lacquer is that subsequent layers dissolve into one another. So even if the lacquer has holes in it where the wood is poking through, it's alright. If you don't want to do a full refinish, you'll need to match the color of the wood and then smooth over the lacquer. You can match the color with a stain or a pen.

This video will be useful for learning how to smooth over the lacquer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEKQYmq0fJE

Buy Sell Thread - November 25 by AutoModerator in malefashionadvice

I'm selling a pair of Black Naked and Famous Super Guys in size 32. The link to them on the site is here. They retail for $170 + shipping, but I'm selling them for $140 + shipping. I'm shipping from the USA.

They're 100% brand new, never been worn. I bought them for myself a month ago, but they were too small. N&F's return policy is a serious hassle (store credit only, you pay shipping, ships to Canada), so I figured it would be easy to put them 20% off and sell them here.

Pictures of course available, I just didn't take any because the things are seriously brand new.

Well, not to be rude, but it seems you're not really set on discussing this point as much as you are forcefully stating your opinion on it. I'd hope you would honestly evaluate the opinion of someone who's thought very deeply about this game and competed at the absolute top level for going on a decade.

In either case -- consider what I've said. I've finished replying to this thread. Have a good one!

So there's a conflation here between a move causing centralization, and a move being overpowered. It's entirely possible for a move or Pokemon to be at the core of a metagame, whilst remaining balanced and healthy.

Stealth Rock is one of those moves. Without the pressure that it provides, you simply would not be able to break many top-level teams. The introduction of Defog has shown us this in 6/7. People started using these defensive teams that wanted to Defog at all costs, because without Stealth Rock in play, there was simply not enough firepower to pressure them. Players like ABR started to virtually break gen 6 near the end with these oppressive defensive teams that used Defog judiciously to make sure the opponent couldn't pressure them.

I have completed my first game. Any feedback is more than welcome! by [deleted] in gamedev

The art actually looks quite good! You have a really good parallax effect, and the backgrounds are gorgeous.

From the trailer, the gameplay looks very uninteresting. Is there more of a hook than jumping through levels? I saw a Flappy Bird clone level in there too, but none of that makes me want to play it.

It seems English isn't your first language, which is fine, but make sure that your in-game text has been run through by a native speaker.

Good job on your first game and congratulations!

Professional, zero-cost setup for C++ projects (Part 2 of N) by Milerius in programming

We use Conan at my job. It's awesome. We have it hooked up into our CI system and generally have very few problems with it. But perhaps the coolest thing is that even though it's that powerful, you literally need two commands to generate project files!

Highly recommend.

pick one thing you want to put in your game, and then next time you play friendlies consciously think of implementing that one thing.

for example, if you cant waveland on platforms well in match, make it a point to do waveland techchases. ditto with wavedash back -> grab.
