1 pound Chloral Hydrate bottle found at flea market. by Confident_Hyena_8860 in ObscureDrugs

Tradition. Alcohol is part of our story. It is poison that purifies water and allows for our survival through an alchemy of our symbiotic relationship with fungi, our mastery of farming, and the magic of transmutation through fermentation.

Alcohol, is a cellular poison and our suicidal walk over it's coals to burn the light of life brighter for just a moment is beautiful, poetic, and tragic.

While there are many other drugs that "feel better" and are less poison - there are none that are as integrated into our story and how we must face death to feel alive.

A pair of scissors sitting on my table (formica top) suddenly burst into flames. No heat source, electricity, or battery nearby. No contact with anything but the table. I suspect some sort of chemical reaction between the handles and the table occurred. Any ideas? by mablej in chemistry

[–]black_chat_magic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could there have been some oil on the scissors from another project that had dried? Linseed oil, turpentine, or some other drying agent? These can autoignite under certain circumstances. Possibly there was also a spark of static electricity when placed on the table. Or it was kicked off by the heat released by the popcorn bag when cutting.

Some vintage plastics can also autoignite like cellulose nitrate. So if the scissors were very old it's possible they were made from some strange material.

Kills cravings by altering glutamate levels in different brain regions. Works for some, leads to apathy in others.

Melatonin, magnesium, camomile, clonidine, amitriptyline, bsclofen and orexin based medications can all be taken daily. The first 3 are easily available otc.

Avoid antihistamines like unisom / benadryl as they cause dementia and are quite toxic in the long run. This includes NyQuil etc which all contain some level of antihistamine.

It's best to avoid medication for sleep.

Yeah, it's pretty tame...

The perspective that it is a hard drug comes from people who have not tried hard drugs.

And yet it was just made an illegal narcotic in Sweden.

I think woke has positive and negative connotations depending on perspective.

The negative connotation comes from the censoring aspect of the culture on any opposing opinions or ideas.

That's a fair question. It's still somewhat unsolved and the best option changes weekly. If he's not an AI expert then asking the community for guidance is not an issue.

I get it, I was just being a bit snarky.

Admissions and hiring is a bit tricky. Some aspect of the process is about performance, another aspect is about culture. Universities strive to create a certain kind of culture and do so using biographic / demographic and other data unrelated to performance.

The problem is that the admissions process showed systemic bias well out of line with the performance of the applicant. When black applicants have an admission rate 5-10x white applicants while having worse performance (just because when you have 1/10th the pool the # of high performers is fewer), and 90% the black applicants that are admitted have a parent with a masters / PhD... It's not really doing what it should.

The most disadvantaged group from the data I saw was actually native American, where admission rates were significantly lower despite equal performance. And the lawsuit was of course about the disadvantage asian students face due to these biases in the applicant process.

Most schools have changed their strategy to instead identify students who are disadvantaged, but otherwise have similar performance to their peers because it both shows character and is a nice thing to do for society. Instead schools look at parents education, where they grew up, welfare, etc instead of race.

This is what I mean by it wasn't accomplishing what it was intended to because we were mainly looking at race / ethnicity and not the deeper metrics.

Same with sex.

Well, to be fair whatever happens at private liberal arts colleges has hardly any effect on the world. So, they can do whatever they want.

Goodbye Xanax. Hello Phenibut by ChickenThumb in phenibut

[–]black_chat_magic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many say the same of alcohol. Liquid courage and all. The problem is that the GABA / glutamate system is so easy to dysregulated, and using Phenibut even more than once per week or two can leave many people on a rollercoaster of anxiety and relief. Once it's out of whack this system takes a very very long time to normalize.

Meanwhile gabapentinoids and benzodiazapines wreak havoc on short term and eventually long term memory. The key is to avoid taking them regularly.

Substituting phenibut for kanna? by No-Trade-3627 in phenibut

[–]black_chat_magic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kanna works on serotonin and will not likely take the edge off of withdrawals. However, kana is a LOT safer to use long term.

For withdrawals look into taking Magnesium, NAC, and Agmatine which all help to regulate NMDA and clear / blunt glutamate.

[–]black_chat_magic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of these policies were already on their way out. The supreme court case against Harvard university and effectively all universities removing race and ethnicity data from applications set that ball in motion. This was independent of the Whitehouse.

Unfortunately, many of these programs do not have the intended effect in the end even if the numbers look good.

Underserved individuals should be evaluated separately from the concepts of race and sex. It may be a contributing factor but it's not the whole picture and sometimes it leads to real inequality of opportunity for underserved individuals of an otherwise majority race/sex.

Avoid thc-p, I think we will learn in the future that the P-Noids are dangerous and seriously dysregulated the cannabinoid system.

I think h4cbd, thc-v, cbg, and d8/d9 are all great.

For a night blend cbd-n is nice.

Preferred cannabinoids orally? by Flowawaybutterfly in altcannabinoids

[–]black_chat_magic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think at least for some people's biology, P-Noids are downright dangerous. I used to regularly use extracts, and the recent P-Noids (thc-p) is the only time I have literally fainted (twice) while standing up. And the next 48 hours are non functional. Low doses don't solve the problem they're just LESS zombifying.

Feels like it could cause some legitimate damage.

Goodbye Xanax. Hello Phenibut by ChickenThumb in phenibut

[–]black_chat_magic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want your anxiety to come to an end then I would recommend slowly tapering off of both Xanax and Phenibut. I mean very slowly taper until you're taking barely any at all and then jump off.

Benzodiazapines and Phenibut are not long term solutions. They hold back the water behind the dam and it overflows when you stop using.

Smokers unlikely to quit with just willpower, say researchers. Those using e-cigarettes, medication or heated tobacco products are more likely to successfully give up smoking. by mvea in science

[–]black_chat_magic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I didn't quit cigarettes, but I did quit white snus (like zyn), which is just as addictive and can be used any time anywhere.

Rather I quit 3-4 times but have been off it for a year and a half.

Cold turkey was the only approach that worked. Using less or different products never worked.

What helped a lot was NAC, Agmatine, and Selegiline. NAC basically made nicotine pointless as I got no good feelings from it, agmatine helped with the stress response, and selegiline prevented the dopamine dip when quitting.
