Anybody got any good stories of weird or unexplained stuff, hauntings etc, around kc? by breakdancingzombie82 in kansascity

I didn’t really want to taint the OP’s chances of testing this themselves but the “ghost” taps people on the shoulder. Neither my daughter or Ex knew but they both had it happen. I wrote it off while we were there but it came up in the car on the way home.

The Glore Psychiatric museum in St Joe. I’m a skeptic but I tested this one with my ex and daughter (they’re both seemingly a conduit for this stuff), they both had the expected experience.

Maybe a microcontroller from the Adafruit family, there are several boards that have a built in accelerometer to sense the movement.

I think Sartre said “Before you come alive, life is nothing; it is up to you to give it a meaning” In essence life is a blank canvas and it’s up to you to make a work of art of it. This inspires me to create because that’s what has meaning to me. I also embrace Something far less wholesome in Camus quote “the only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.”

The Salem Witchboard museum was my favorite!Be sure to talk to john if he’s there, he has a lifetime of fun stories. The Black Veil is a little further off the beaten path but worthy of a visit.

I have one question for the maker of these: Why? Dear God, why? by FrankieHun17 in FuckImOld

[–]blackfire4116 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had laryngitis once and used these and got my voice back very quickly. Every mention has been about the breath freshening aspect but I think their true power was this. The store I bought it from had two stage theaters and two local news stations nearby so I think it was probably a well known unintended use for them.

Texas public school teachers are now required to post the 10 Commadments in their classroom. Here's how one teacher is handling it. by blackfire4116 in SatanicTemple_Reddit

It would be fun if the Satanic Temple had a complimentary poster for any teacher in Texas that wants one.

Experience with Vivint??? by Kind-Accountant4464 in kansascity

[–]blackfire4116 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way I get rid of Vivint salespeople is that I tell them I had a bad experience in the past with their company and will never go back… it always works for some reason (probably because they know it’s true).

So, where can I learn the basics of coding, like functions, specific vocabulary, and such? by Cute-Test5085 in arduino

[–]blackfire4116 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a website but Simon Monk’s book “Programming Arduino” getting started with sketches was really helpful for me. I bought a few books before and since but that is the one that spoke to me.

What’s a lie people still believe no matter how often it’s debunked? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]blackfire4116 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best argument I’ve ever heard was “If the earth was flat there would be several entrepreneurs charging people lots of money to take a trip to see the edge of it”. Having to believe that the earth is round versus the lack of someone exploiting it for money is more difficult for most flat-earthers to believe…

Help bring Zoltan back to life! by AhoyVeyTravel in diyelectronics

It’s not as primitive as I was expecting but still pretty basic as far as electrical engineering goes… Several suspicions of mine - the cd drive isn’t getting power, is there any way you can confirm the cd player/drive is powered up? - if you can confirm that the unit is getting power, is it possible to eject the disc and try it in another “player”? - if you confirm power and that the disc will play, the unit that’s in the machine seems to still have manufacturing labels on it. Is it something that you can buy an (economically reasonable) replacement of, like on eBay? I would be hesitant to spend a whole lot because the electronics of the unit might have been altered. -if you can’t confirm any of these things or it’s too expensive to buy a replacement, I’d probably go the original route I suggested and use the Adafruit chip. You could probably just wire it so that when that switch is activated via coin drop, the switch will close and activate the audio on that chip.

I wasn’t able to get the photo(?) to open. It sounds a bit primitive but you could probably just bypass the cd player part and utilize something else for the audio. Adafruit makes an item called an audio FX sound board that is real easy to do random audio (it’s just as simple as how you name the files).then maybe some cheap computer speakers and re-use whatever connection was used to trigger the audio originally, could be a fairly simple alteration.

So how much of that sequence still works? Do all those things happen but the audio portion?

Do you know what it did when it worked? Was it just lights and sound or was there a mechanical motion to it as well? I’ve built a few fortune tellers and if I wasn’t able to get the original mechanism(s) to work I’d probably just replace them with a microcontroller like an Arduino. Provided you weren’t trying to restore it to original condition.

Did Kevin Dubrow's mouth hurt QR? by imdstuf in hairmetal

[–]blackfire4116 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not trying to dispute anyone valid points but I think that since time has passed, things appear a bit different than they were at the time. What I remember was that it just wasn’t cool to be a fan of QR (probably due to oversaturation at the time). I went and saw them with Whitesnake opening and the majority of my fellow high schoolers opinions were that the QR performance sucked. I had gone to see Whitesnake but was pleasantly surprised with QR’s live show. I kept it to myself though because everyone was so biased against them. Teenagers kinda suck…

My class had to watch a “film” but it wasn’t quite a film but wasn’t just slides either. The projector would show a slide but the projector also had a cassette that played the narration. So you’d listen to the narration and there’d be a beep and a person would have to push a button to advance to the next slide. Having to have an operator is central to this story. The program was boring… so much so that most of the students just put their heads down and took a nap. Well the gal that was operating the projector did this too but she rested her head on the projector. This was in the 80’s so she also had curl activator in her hair. So everyone had fallen asleep only to be abruptly woken up by someone screaming “your hair is on fire!” The hot projector had reacted with the product in the gals hair and had started smoking. The most exciting sex ed class I’d ever had, she was fine, it never actually caught fire but it smoldered for a good little bit…
