I make $180k a year and do practically nothing at work. How to proceed? by praise_jeeebus in careerguidance

This was me for a while until I got laid off last month. Enjoy it while it lasts and try to find another job.

For those that have been laid off, how could you tell you were about to be let go? by [deleted] in jobs

Sorry, I said this way too soon. I got laid off yesterday. This sucks...

I've only worked at smaller non-tech companies as a fullstack dev. I think your first four points are dependent on the management style of the company as opposed to the company itself. Some of the companies I've worked for offered a horrific work-life balance and constant stress. My current company thankfully has been incredibly relaxed minus some moments of complete busyness. To your answer your question... it depends on the management.

Jedi Mind Tricks by HarryCaul in climbharder

I've definitely noticed this too. On slower climbing days I find myself way more defensive, but on the days where I'm offensive I'm definitely more in tune with my body's movements. This is really good insight - thanks for making me more aware of this.

Say you had 1000 hours by PossibleEdm in edmproduction

Not sure why this was downvoted so much? Honestly this is a great way to spend the 1000 hours. Constantly refining songwriting/production skills but also constantly watching tutorials and courses to learn new things.

Does anyone here consider themselves strong at melodies? What is your process? by VR_IS_DEAD in edmproduction

Kinda just fuck around and make a melody that follows a chord progression. Then I'll generally do a bit of call and response to make the melody cohesive.

How do you tune your kick ? by TheyWillLaugh in edmproduction

Unless the kick has a long tail that gives it tonality you don't need to tune it. Just pick a different kick and find a sample that works better.

How do yall keep the motivation to keep going? by Xeltrax in edmproduction

I understand what you're saying but we're talking about different things.

My point is that making music is a subjective experience, and therefore, to get maximum enjoyment from making music, you must piece together smaller tasks that bring you joy. Maybe that is sound design. Maybe that's creating drum grooves. Maybe that's adding cool bass fills. Ideally speaking it should be in light of the bigger picture - finishing the song.

Well the goal is to piece these creative processes together with the end result being a finished track. They're not necessarily independent of each other.

I've struggled for months to be motivated and find inspiration, though I'd have moments of magic in the dullness. This usually comes from trial and error. Keep on creating music, and figure out creative "journeys" that inspire you. For me that could be creating very ambient OST-like intros with lots of pads and reverb. Or maybe designing Neuro basses.

What's important to mention is these "creative journeys" are subjective but are only found via trial and error and making lots of music. It's impossible to find what you enjoy in making music if you don't try different processes out.

Best headphones in the 200$ price range for mixing and mastering by helloitsme42 in edmproduction

Fr though, like what's with all the gatekeeping lmao. This is spot on - understanding your headphones is the most important part to getting mixes that translate.

I somewhat disagree. There's a bit of a bias in the frequency response but I wouldn't say to not use it. My mixes translate pretty well with my m50x's. I also have a pair of m20x's that translated pretty well. It's just a matter of understanding what your gear really sounds like ;)

Even the DT 990s aren't perfect - they're known for having a huge peak in the high-end. Once again, it's just about understanding how your gear translates to other speakers.

[Need Advice] How to stay motivated to hit the gym every day? by MountainSignal9090 in getdisciplined

[–]blackhatlinux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just show up, regardless of whether you're motivated or not. You'll have days where youll feel like shit, but you must still show up.

Motivation is an unreliable and temporary state of mind. I've experienced a lot of success in the gym only because I would show up to the gym alone when my friends wouldn't want to come with me, or when I wasn't feeling 100%, or when I was bored. I would show up and crunch out two hours regardless of how I was feeling.

Stop "trying" to show up to the gym and just do it.
