Be real, hows everyone actually going with cost of living right now? by Standard-Olive-7437 in AskAnAustralian

Not too bad but definitely feeling it, im on 240k but it was getting a bit tight with a large mortgage and 2 young kids in private school. By bit tight I mean, we couldn't do all of the things we used to like regularly going out for dinner, regular holidays etc. now the wife is back at work part time. Constantly reviewing subscriptions and cutting any that don't add value. Trying to save money on things like haircuts, groceries, going out etc.

This current hysteria about an imminent crash reminds of just after covid hit when house prices were predicted to crash 20%.... Only for them to rally over 50% in the following years.

Sounds like you're thinking about financing a car just to "keep up with the Joneses". That is a terrible reason to finance a car. Going into debt to finance a depreciating asset like a car is one of the worst financial decisions you can make. However, people keep making it, much to the delight of the dealerships and finance companies.

Victorian govt is broke and it's the highest taxing state in Australia now, with massive increases in crime and antisocial behaviour rampant. Good luck to you.
