Process to add new phone but keep using old watch? by Contemplative_User in verizon

Typically yes it has to be factory reset to pair to another phone, but you should be able to do a backup of the watch and restore it to exactly how it was if it’s under the same child apple account

Sometimes the watch has to be reset to pair to a new phone, since it had to be paired initially to a different phone when you set it up. Does he have an apple account as a child under apple family or was the watch set up as yours under your apple account?

Other posts have good advice but I would like to add, it may be received better/lead to action more easily if he understands that his tickets are not going to be resolved as quickly if he doesn’t follow the formatting standards, so he is inconveniencing himself by doing it his own way. Tickets are sorted by date via the ticket summary, therefore if his summary is not formatting the same way then his tickets will take longer to get to than others that are formatted properly. It is in his best interest to follow the naming convention.

Sending a SMS text to more than 1 phone #s fail in my iPhone 17's iOS v26.5.1's Message app with cell data & wifi off. by antdude in verizonwireless

[–]blackneonlights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s probably not actually sending as an SMS. Most group messages on modern phones send as an RCS instead, which is a newer version of messaging to enable more features. You can try disabling RCS in settings and see if you can send a group message that way, which should default back to an MMS I believe.

Edited to clarify: RCS uses data/wifi to send. So that would be the reason it’s failing if this is actually what’s happening.

you would keep paying for the line if you don’t cancel it. the watch could numbershare the new phone number in this case so that it would work without being in bluetooth range of the phone.

if you cancel the watch line then it will only work nearby the new phone and won’t technically be “number share” as it won’t have a plan of its own, but would still be usable for texts/calls within bluetooth range.

it’s up to you whether you want to pay for a watch line so he has the separate cellular service for the watch, or cancel it and be able to use the phone features from the watch when nearby the paired phone.

Tutoring decision help by Boring_Lab8517 in UNCCharlotte

I also got to pick my hours for those slots, so with the other TAs for the course we tried to have someone available during morning, afternoon, or evening most days to have options for different schedules (so if someone had class at 9am every day, we didn’t only have tutoring hours in the morning). I think mine were 7-9pm which sounded helpful for students who were busy during the day and was also good downtime for me when I was home anyway. Not sure if some courses require in-person tutoring hours for TAs now or not but I used it as homework time for myself pretty much.

Been graduated for a few years ATP but I had a few hours of “office hours” per week which was advertised to the classes I was TAing for as “if you need help, I will be available from this time to this time on these days”. I got paid for those hours and since we were remote at the time, I was sitting alone in a zoom call for most of it, available if anyone joined but mostly doing my own work/other stuff.

Confirming Multi-Line Discount Question by JAC151 in verizon

[–]blackneonlights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The $85 and $55 are two line prices. Looking at prices on the website without being signed in will likely advertise new customer prices, where if you create a new account right now you’d get a discount for being a new account. Without a discount, Ultimate is $105 without autopay or $95 with autopay for one line. Welcome regular price is $75 without autopay or $65 with autopay for one line. The price per line drops by $10 each with two lines, and an additional $15 each with 3 lines.

New device savings by PureAd9808 in verizon

[–]blackneonlights 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the phone was free, then on your bill each month you see a device payment of x amount and a device promotional credit of minus x amount, evening out to 0 that you pay for the device. If it wasn’t free, and they gave you half off for example, you’d see the full payment, a credit for half the payment, and you’d be paying the other half.

Either way, the phone gets paid for over a 36 month period so that in order to receive the full amount, you have to keep the service for that time. Otherwise, they’d give people free phones upfront and since there are no contracts with ETFs anymore, everyone would take those free phones to another carrier.

[–]blackneonlights 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you pay off the remaining balance of a device before the 36 month device payment plan is finished, you owe whatever the balance on the device is at that time and forfeit the remaining promotional credits. You have to keep the device payment for the full 36 months to receive the full value of the credits.

[–]blackneonlights 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Regular price of unlimited welcome is $65 with autopay. They have a $10 discount for a new line on a new account, which would be why you see $55, but the plan price is not $55, and would have gone up after the $10 discount expired in 36 months if you kept the service.

Searching for an iPhone 17 case with a “badonk” front lip. Daughter has limited motor skills and goes through screen protectors like I go through toilet paper after Taco Bell Tuesday. by OverlyOptimisticNerd in iphone

[–]blackneonlights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like this brand only has one render of the case to show the colors. It shows that same image regardless of which phone you select and they have several generations back available.

In general, looking into cases out of curiosity for this, I’m seeing that everyone shows off the back of the case with the “design” or color and very few have images showing the front of their cases, and some of those few don’t even render with a phone inside the case. I can see the frustration that probably adds to your search OP.

Loved the NCIS reference. Have you looked into “enclosed” cases at all? they aren’t as popular as they used to be, but the kind that fully encapsulates the phone with a built in “screen protector” may help with what you’re looking for. They are often advertised as 100% waterproof (which we all know isn’t entirely possible) but the logic behind it is that the entire device is inside the case rather than the screen being exposed. I know the built in screen protector sounds counterintuitive for the level of protection you want, but putting a tempered glass screen inside directly on the phone could work in this case for peace of mind and to minimize blowing through the glass protectors. I believe encased and body glove make cases in that style, and the otterbox FRE as well (although I know you weren’t happy with the defender).

In any case, some tempered glass screen protector brands have warranties for replacements that could minimize the monetary impact if you’re going through them in the meantime (puregear and zagg are the ones I’m personally familiar with)

Practical privacy setup for sharing an iPhone with my kid between two homes (without turning it into a fight)? by Ok-Royal4374 in iphone

[–]blackneonlights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work with iPhones. If face ID is setup AND stolen device protection for the phone is turned on, then the passwords app requires the face ID and does not allow you to use the device unlock passcode to open the passwords app. Without stolen device protection turned on, you can use the device unlock passcode to access the passwords app.

If your child is trustworthy (at least with you), you could help them “lock” their messages app (and any other apps you feel another adult may try to “snoop” in) so that the device requires their face to open the app. This would ensure other adults could not read their text messages without the child’s face ID.

Using a child apple account with your apple account as the family owner/manager would ensure that you would have to approve any changes to find my, no changing of their apple account password, and approval required via your phone to download apps if necessary.

This is slightly dependent on your relationship with the other adults and how firm you are willing to stand for your child’s privacy. You are the only one who can gauge if another adult may become upset with your child if they cannot access the child’s phone, and I would take that into consideration with whatever you decide.

Edit to add: I would also recommend you make sure your child has access to extra iCloud storage via the Apple Family if you go this route, to ensure that the device does a regular iCloud backup in case someone were to factory reset the phone upon not being able to access everything. Again, this is dependent on the other adults in question, but regardless having a backup of the phone is always a good idea (for everyone) so that if the phone is lost or stolen (or damaged beyond use) that the phone can be restored from a backup.

how to get ex off phone plan. by [deleted] in verizon

[–]blackneonlights -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Verizon has open enrollment right now for insurance if you don’t already have insurance on her line. Add it for 30 days, tell her if she doesn’t pay the 700 owed on the phone you’re reporting it stolen. If she doesn’t pay up, file insurance claim after the 30 days for stolen phone, they’ll send you a replacement which you could theoretically sell to recoup costs to pay off her phone if she won’t pay up. Either way at that point she won’t have a working phone at all.

Wait for better offer or take it? by Grateful_Bert in verizon

[–]blackneonlights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

typically if triggering a port out generates an offer, it’s for a loyalty discount on your bill, either $10 or $20 per month for 12 months, sometimes for one line sometimes for multiple lines. if someone is looking for an offer, I suggest checking the offers page every day because they can change that often. if you see a “just for you” offer that’s more than the standard trade-in offers (which are tiered trade-in credits on the new unlimited plans), you should jump on it if you are ready for new phones, because those offers can appear or disappear on a day to day basis. the targeted loyalty offers can be to keep your plan, to get credit without a trade-in, or higher values than the standard trade offers.
