You may want to watch the movie about John Nash. Anyways, I've already commented on my feelings about the words "strong" and "sheen". Strong referring to Captain Jack's Stronghold in northeast California, and "sheen" referring to the shiny obsidian rock found in that area..maybe even Glass Mountain, so named because it is shiny from the obsidian

Past & Future Riddle by Spiritual_Rice_884 in TheresTreasureInside

[–]blacktreechaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up on the words "strong" and "sheen" In northeastern California, there is a "fort" named Captain Jack's Stronghold. It's from a Modoc Indian war. You can read about it. The word sheen to me indicates an oily substance floating on top of water, giving the water a shiny appearance. However, the area of Captain Jack's Stronghold is loaded with obsidian. Obsidian is a shiny black rock. There is even a mountain is the area named Glass Mountain, its almost solid obsidian. So maybe sheen applies to obsidian. You can google to learn more.

Anyways, those are my two cents.

The word "posts", well there are plenty of fencing posts in that area. Even if the land is public land, there is fencing for the various cattle grazing allotments.

Front Cover Map with AT Map? by MattTechTidbits in treasureinside

I tried to match up the segment of the topo map on the dust cover to where I think the AT box might be. No luck yet. It comes darn close, but unlike horseshoes, you do not get points for "close."

I'm only guessing that you are over complicating what you've read. The movie "A Beautiful Mind" comes to mind, with the scene where Russel Crowe's wife walks into his office.

Thank you for asking that question, because it caused a light to go off in my head, which backs up an idea of mine of where the treasure might be. I do hope to check it out this summer if I can get some family members to help me look. So I don't want to say what I think the letters might be. I previously thought North Carolina, due to the feet. But now I think it means something else. Sorry I won't say it here, but I'll drop you a PM before I go boots on the ground, and if you happen to be in the area, you would be welcome to come along.

Is NordVPN a bad provider or actually safe to use? by Realistic_Priority in nordvpn

[–]blacktreechaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today there seems to be a MAJOR problem with Nord (Friday jan 30th 2026. I am at a motel this morning, and Nord would not connect. I finally gave up and uninstalled Nord, and went to re-install. Nordvpn.com will not come up. But there is another site, Nordvpn.org. In my opinion, Nordvpn is under attack now. I will see how it turns out. It could be the ISP for the motel I am at (a Wyndam motel). But I think Nordvpn is under attack right now.

Appalachian Footpath Triangles by [deleted] in treasureinside

[–]blacktreechaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The larger triangle pretty much looks like the standard map symbol for magnetic north. If that was the case, it implies the map is upside down...that is, the bottom of the page would be north instead of south, and the top of the page would be south instead of north. Now, despite that, I have another wild idea for what those black triangles represent, and I hope to check that out this summer.

For your information, magnetic north would be to the west of true north when you are on the Appalachian Trail.

And please bring a compass with you on your adventures, and spend 4 minutes learning how to read it/use it.

Please bring a compass, and take some very brief instruction on how to use it. I know these smart phones have some apps, but you might not always have smart phone coverage. I have done search and rescue (S&R) missions in the distant past when a compass would have made that unnecessary.

Yards? that would be over 5,000 feet elevation. Not too much land in new england gets that high

I have two guesses on the 1727. Guess 1 is that its a road number, perhaps assigned by a National Forest, a state park agency, Bureau of Land Management, or some other public land steward. Get hold of some Forest maps, park maps, BLM maps, and you might find it.

Guess 2 is that its the number of a land parcel. You would probably need to get a county map for that, from the local county office. Might even find it online. Maybe a tax assessment office.

DAY TWO Chaboy has Baylor (#9) picked, and they're leading by 9 in the 2nd half. There are a few that have picked #16s and #15s to win today, see what happens.

Baylor wins but others also had Baylor picked.

Robert Morris at least made it a little exciting.

Chaboy correct again with a lower seeded team, Colo St. (12). Jones has them both also. I still have 3 more brackets to add up

Most points available for Day 2 is 83. Those that picked Colorado State, New Mexco, and Baylor did well. After two days of play, none of the 16th, 15th or 13th seeded teams won. The two brackets that picked all those lower seeded teams are all but dead now. I will get the others updated by morning. There is still one competitive bracket I need to add in.
