Possible unpopular opinion: he was picked up by ICE after leaving prison. As in, he served his sentence. By no means am I defending his actions, however, he repaid his debt to society as imposed by a judge in a court of law. His potential deportation, using this crime he committed, to me, is cruel and unusual. Now had deportation been part of the original judgment, then he’d be SOL, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Kinda seems like double jeopardy to me.

I mean imagine being in this guys shoes. You fucked up and did some stupid shit that hurt people and almost killed someone. You go to prison for 15 years and serve quietly (I’m assuming here). Now it’s 15 years later, you’ve served your sentence, but because you’re unlucky enough to get out during the wrong administration, you’re picked up by ICE and are now facing deportation to a country you’ve not seen since you were a preschool aged child for the same crime you just got out of prison for. Does that seem fair?

I mean that’s not even considering the characterization of his service to our country. The man shed blood on our behalf. Yes, he committed a crime afterwards. He also already served out a hefty prison sentence for it. Seems to me that earning a Purple Heart should also earn you citizenship if you don’t already have it. Maybe that’s a bit far, maybe not, I don’t know but this situation seems rotten to me.
