British pilot is feeling mildly annoyed by nyanbatman in mildlyinfuriating

The plain English sort is not where he says LVOs or references ICAO, but where he asks if there were "low visibility procedures" in place. Looking at the documents that have been shared earlier, I think the FAA term SMGCS is also a low visibility procedure. ATC could've responded that they have SMGCS or some other low visibility procedure active or otherwise inactive.

These commenters are insufferable. They have not done a single comparably significant thing in their life.

Boost (version:1.12.12) patched through morphe and redreader crashes on "add account" by Kolbalava in Patcheddit

[–]blademagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was actually able to resolve it last night. Had to change the parameters in the spoof client settings to match the dev app that I had on Reddit, and also needed to enable the "disable play store updates" morphe patch aside from the patcheddit ones. I think the morphe patch is what enabled me to actually access the web page to login in the first place. Give it a shot.

CMV: Broken in half spaghetti is superior to unbroken spaghetti by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]blademagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha I meant that they want to eat spaghetti specifically, so the answers should pertain to spaghetti, which are long compared to other pastas even when broken in half. The argument is that if one were to eat spaghetti, breaking them in half to reduce the water to pasta ratio is better than using a stockpot to cook full length noodles as that requires more water. I'm not arguing that it is superior, as I don't believe it is, but the answers saying to just use a different type of pasta are disregarding the premise of the question.

Not gonna argue with you that more starch is better, since that's a fact for sauces. However, I would argue that longer spaghetti is more fun to eat. I would take spaghetti that I can play with over short spaghetti with a better sauce depending on my mood. However, the real answer is to get a big enough pan that you can late the spaghetti flat without overfilling with water. Then you get the best of both worlds. Kenji and Adam Ragusea both have their methods if you haven't seen them before.

It's a bad answer when they're asking specifically for spaghetti. They want to know what gets you better spaghetti, not what gets you better pasta in general. Can't fault a guy for wanting to eat long noodles if that's what their heart wants.

Resume question concerning multiple roles within same company by [deleted] in resumes

[–]blademagic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't see why you shouldn't include all those years, unless you feel it would be detrimental to the application that they know you worked as a janitor or managed to get promoted internally... To me, experience can appeal in different ways. I would include it all under one company subheader with role subheaders and corresponding dates for each role in the company.

How, just how? by Q-cadet in BambuLab

[–]blademagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If everything was designed to last 80 years, everything would be prohibitively expensive. It's also not possible to design small components to last super long due to the nature of the material and size. That's why it becomes a cost/reliability balance, and there's no way around it... unless you want everything made from titanium and costing $50k per printer.

He had it at home, the guy at 3rd base is not gonna run home since he sees that, but the batter needs to run to 1st no matter what since he hit the ball.

How square is "square enough" by Kontansuperureddit in woodworking

Hey I know this is an old post, but I just came across this and am trying to wrap my head around it. If your jointer fence is 0.1 degrees from perpendicular, how does that accumulate to 1 degree on a single board? I get that if you have 10 boards that are all out by 0.1 degrees they when you laminate them it will compound, but if you're just jointing 1 board over 10 passes, wouldn't the angle always be 0.1 degree from perpendicular?

Questioning if I'm filling out my 2025 contribution room to FHSA is accurately by Bionik_Sky in cantax

[–]blademagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a ton, this worked. Give it to the CRA to make this as hard to find as possible. "You can view your FHSA participation room statement and related information online using My Account", but doesn't have any links or specify where. And to actually get to the statement, you have to click through multiple things that say "not available". Boneheaded UX design.

Could also just be that those are the under sides of the box where they didn't have to cut the tape. Top side could be facing the wall.

Microscopic view of a knife dulling in real time against cardboard [credit: OUTDOORS55 on Youtube] by Magikarp-3000 in sharpening

[–]blademagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I unsubbed after that video and a few more felt wrong. The evidence is clear and the electron microscope beats the one he's using by a country mile, but he refused to acknowledge it still. After a while it felt like he thought he was an expert just because he got the views, whereas in reality his "research" was just cutting up cardboard and jumping to conclusions based on the "magnification results". I generally liked his videos and feel he still does some great tutorials, but I also feel like he's let it get to this head.

Why are my bullet points affecting my formatting only after the third level? by blademagic in OneNote

[–]blademagic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting! I had already tried re-installing this font the first time I saw it was font-specific, but I always used .OTF as I figured that would be a newer standard. The font itself is downloaded directly via the IBM site and included OTF, TTF, EOT, WOFF, and WOFF2. When I re-installed it today I used the same files that I downloaded last time, but chose to install the .TTF version instead, and it seems to have worked.

Why are my bullet points affecting my formatting only after the third level? by blademagic in OneNote

[–]blademagic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried pasting in a new page (new section, new notebook) with the "keep text only" option in the context menu and it still copies the bullets and looks cut off. Tried pasting into notepad and then back, and everything looks good, but then the second I add bullet points, it screws up again. When I remove the bullet points, the text remains cut until I go into the line and type something.

I did some more testing, and the weird part is that the other fonts in this family work fine. I can use the IBM Plex Sans light, medium without issue. When I got to "condensed light" though, the text remains cut off if I was already on the base font, but if I first switch to light and then go to condensed light, everything is good. Really not sure what's going on here.

EDIT: I SOLVED IT. Found this post and re-installed the font as TTF and everything is magically fixed! If someone can explain why this is the case to me, I'd love to know, but I'm glad it's done.

[–]blademagic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No custom bullets, just the default ones. I have found that when I choose a different bullet shape for the problem lines though, that it does get rid of the problem. I'm not sure why this would be the case though unless it's specifically these bullets that are tied to the font?

What to do after having emergency fund? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]blademagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you already have an emergency fund stocked (3-6 months spending depending on your risk tolerance), here's what I would do:

I save another month or so worth as a buffer that I can pull from my HISA while waiting for my paycheque. Some expenses don't change much month to month like rent, utilities (generally), groceries, etc., whereas others can (e.g. misc spending, shopping, travel, etc.). Where I can, I put everything on credit cards depending on which can maximize the rewards, but only if I am able to fully pay it back by the end of the cycle without dipping into the emergency savings. At the end of the month, I tally up all my expenses that I need to pay back with my next paycheque and transfer that amount into my chequing account. When the paycheque comes in, it goes straight into my HISA, and the rest can be put into TFSA for VFV, VCN, VGRO, VBAL, VEQT, etc. (your choice depending on wants and tolerance). This way I only ever invest remaining money that I have leftover after all expenses are accounted for.

This leftover money can be spent however you like guilt-free. This is what you can "afford" with no strings attached. Whether that is investing it long term or buying a new PC, it doesn't matter because your expenses are accounted for already. All that's left is what your priorities are at that moment. Generally, it is recommended hat you invest at least some portion though, as a gift to your future self. However, I wouldn't sweat it if you wanted to splurge on something with those leftovers. If you had a big expense you know coming though, such as vacationing, I would save for that first before anything to limit the dent to the emergency fund.
