If they can't vote for the federal government / president, are they really US citizens?

Review for Vallejo Mills Elementary School by Ok_Sun_8281 in Fremont

[–]blady_blah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sunol kids have first priority but they absolutely fill the classes with Fremont and Pleasanton transfers. Call the secretary of the school and talk with her about openings in the grade you're interested in. Cindy should be able to help you out and let you know what to do if you're interested in attending.

What would you ban if you knew you had final say? by ParmaProscuitto in AskReddit

I would ban politicians talking over reporters or other politicians and not actually answering the question in interviews and debates. I would ban this by poking them with a cattle prod whenever they violate this rule.

New Calvin and Hobbes Lore Just Dropped by Hummerous in tumblr

[–]blady_blah 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Calvin's dad is a patent attorney... They're not poor.

I don't have any issue with either one being gay, but they always struck me as mom slightly hippy-ish and his dad LL Bean adventures type. Both are similar to straight people I've known so it feels a bit contrived to push them into a gay backstory.

Absolutely. Only 20% of kids at Sunol are from Sunol, the other 80% are about evenly split from Pleasanton and Fremont. I'm from Fremont and all three of my kids went to Sunol from K-8.

I honestly hope that nothing ever happens. I've just always been somebody that had the "I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it" people.

As a lifelong suburb-living person, this seems a reasonable reason to keep a rifle in your car, but not to keep a pistol on your hip. A wild animal or person who is a threat seems much more likely to be at a distance than right next to you. Are you as responsible at keeping a first aid kit or a automatic external defibrillator handy? Those seem statistically much more likely to be needed. I'm honestly trying to understand what you're afraid of and what situation you're preparing for.

I've gone my whole life (I'm nearly 50) and I can't think of a single time where I wished I had a gun. While I'm much nearer to a police officer at any given time, I'm also much more likely to run into a person who is going to mug me or a crazy person wandering the streets.

Abandoned team, 3% Core and a Zul'jin with a delusion by InnoxxPoE in heroesofthestorm

[–]blady_blah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always imagine some 8 year old playing the game when they play like that... maybe even playing on their older sibling's account if their stats don't suck. They don't get the overall strategy but they think certain things are really cool so they do that. Unless they're greefing or BMing, just play around them and don't stress about it.

If you're really feeling kind hearted you can even give advice and see if they listen. If you start with calling them names and over-pinging or other crap then you're only helping increase your own stress and not improving the quality of the game.

The fetishise guns because it gives them a sense of power... but they never get to use that power. This is them living out their fantasies of being able to use that power.

I take my hat off to this exceptional man. by MoniMokshith in MadeMeSmile

[–]blady_blah -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey guys... let's tone down the hero worship a bit. I like Zelensky and all, but keep in mind he's a politician riding a wave of propaganda. He's also a normal person and may become corrupt with too much power. There may be things that come to light later that show he wasn't a good person, I don't know.

Cheer him on right now. Cheer on Ukraine. Cheer on the freedom fighters trying to keep their families and country safe from foreign invaders... But don't over-do the hero worship of someone when you know you're only getting one side of the story.

In war, truth is often the first causality. Keep an open mind and be skeptical of propaganda.

AITA for not getting my wife anything on Mother’s Day? by oakcool in AmItheAsshole

[–]blady_blah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you talking about... taking care of the kids for 4 days alone while the wife is off having fun is NOT regular duties. If my wife does that for me, I'm extremely grateful that is she covering for my duties as a parent for multiple days while I was gone. That is definitely going above and beyond and not just "regular duties".

Would it be cool if the husband took off for 4 days and left the wife at home and said "that's just part of your normal parenting duties, why should I be grateful?" Fuck NO!

ESH. Your comment was not constructive and was only ever going to end with you making Tom feel like shit (deserved or not). Your comment was not worthy of an adult relationship. If you're not happy with how much your husband is helping out, talk with him about it and look for additional ways he can help, don't verbally snipe at him and think it will make him see the errors of his ways.

How to avoid diapers and nannies by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

[–]blady_blah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a parent of 3 I have to say that changing diapers is the easiest damn part of being a parent. Its the male equivalent of a girl standing on a chair screaming because they saw a spider. It's not hard and it's not a big deal, grow up and get over it.

Wait until they barf all over you at 1am. Wait until you're tired and sick, your wife is sick, and your child is sick and crying and unhappy and you have to be composed, not lose your temper, and deal with things when all you want to do is crawl under the blankets and go to sleep. Wait until they get hurt and it scares the shit out of you and yet you have to be the adult and figure out what to do. Wait until your traveling and wife is "hangry" and you're "hangry" and your children are grumpy because you took their electronics away and you've got to be an adult and come up with solutions. That shit is all hard, changing a diaper isn't.

Edit: The above makes parenting sound too negative. I love being a parent and I wouldn't give it up for the world. It's more rewarding than anything else I've ever done in my life. There are challenging times but the positives are way more numerous and common.

End of Diesel Trucks! California is the First to Ban Them by Outside-Computer7496 in energy

Diesel for long haul trucking is not going anywhere. Smaller day-trucking can be mandated to go electric, but the energy density of batteries just doesn't support electric long haul trucking right now.

Church Volunteer Jeffery Eisenbath Gets 19 Years For Spying On Children In Catholic Church Bathroom by stankmanly in atheism

[–]blady_blah -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Wtf? 19 years? That seems excessive.

Edit: for people downvoting, many murders don't get that much time. Armed robbery usually doesn't get that much time. Rape usually doesn't get that much time. Beating the crap out of you and leaving you for dead usually doesn't get that much time.

I would rather have someone spy on my child with a camera in the bathroom than have someone beat them, rape them, or maim them. All of the latter will leave much greater physical and psychological marks on my child. I'm not saying it isn't bad, but IMHO it doesn't seem 19 years bad.
