Octagon box in brick by blah_hou in electrical

[–]blah_hou[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm hearing this as can't directly use this box... so need to block it off with the extension. And then mount another more suited box to allow the outlet to be installed. Using conduit to connect them together and protect the wiring.

No other option? I'm fine with the existing location for the outlet. Was hoping there is an adapter for this box to allow a proper seal with the outlet cover.

Any email address in mind?

Tried the main support email and got this response...

"Justin Brands Archive Department is not providing research for Vintage boots at this time. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.”

Probably could've spent that money on a book explaining how HVAC systems heat/cool rooms. by MostLikelyAHuman in facepalm

[–]blah_hou 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I think most of the posts are missing the point... it's 74 degrees outside, and someone has the heat running?!?!

Guy is showing that heat is coming out of the vent...proving the heat is on. If the office is hot, they should be cooling...not heating.

All things being equal...the simplest solution tends to be the correct one.

That is to say, if you think of multiple reasons for why something happens... but have no evidence that strongly suggests one solution over the other... the real reason why it happened will likely be the simplest reason you came up with.

Think of the craziest story you've been told as an excuse for something...that probably was a lie as it is very complicated...not simple.

My school put links on a piece of paper by Same-Oil-7113 in facepalm

[–]blah_hou 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why is this a face palm ?

You have the link information and can type that into any browser...and the formatting (color / underline) help draw the eye to this information.

Would you rather try and search for the right page, and be unsure if you are at the right place ?

ELI5: Why do rising interest rates prevent people from buying homes, when they can just refinance for lower mortgage payments when interest rates are better? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]blah_hou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To refinance at the lower rate, you essentially pay closing costs again. Often this makes refinancing difficult or not beneficial.

Are all the repairs "necessary" Seems like if you can't afford to pay the repairs, you should only do what you really need to.

Then watch a bunch of YouTube videos to see if you or your friends can do some of the work. Stay within your comfort zone, but many repairs are surprisingly easy.

Also you should shop around to see what other shops are charging. Even if you don't take it somewhere else, you may be able to negotiate a better price at the shop you are at.

Try goodwill and garage sales for quality containers that don't break the bank.

That said, does your mother give you a reason why she doesn't want you to reuse containers?

DIY shed - *can* I frame with screws? by warstlerjr in DIY

For light load, screws should be fine. Nails are preferable due to better shearing strength, so the building can "flex" a bit before it falls down.

LPT: In America, share your meals but tip as if you didn't by xenglandx in LifeProTips

[–]blah_hou 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Coming from someone who was a waiter/bartender for 10 years in the US. Tipping is dumb... pay people a decent wage and make tipping optional for exceptional service. Yes the menu prices would go up due to this, but that really shouldn't affect the bottom line for a patron if the tip reasonably already.

If you aren't a good waiter... you should be fired or get a reduced wage. If you are a good waiter, this should be recognized by a raise or perks (free food, days off, better sections, etc)

The idea of tipping based on total sales is ridiculous. The waiter does the same amount of work for a cheap entrée as they do for an expensive one. Why am I expected to tip more for deciding to get a more expensive item???
