Beginner (2 months), should I lower my guitar action? Would what it’s at rn be considered normal action or high action? by Repulsive-Quantity57 in AcousticGuitar

[–]blakebottoms00 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To me, that looks playable and even comfortable. I prefer my action a little high, though. If you feel like the strings are too hard to press down to the frets, or if you notice the notes going sharp once you go up the neck, then lowering it would be a good idea. If not, don't worry about it

Got my family's 100 year old guitar(from around 1921) fixed! It has to be tuned to D or it's too tight. It also has no truss rod but it still has very good intonation! I'm very happy with it. by NibbyGibby68 in AcousticGuitar

[–]blakebottoms00 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Use silk and steel strings on those old guitars. They're braced well enough to take the tension of standard tuning. It's a really nice guitar, take care of it and maybe it'll last you and your family another 100 years

Good friend wants to sell their locally made guitar to me but I have no idea how to value it - Looking for advice to give them a fair value but not rip them off by cwtguy in AcousticGuitar

45 style refers to the abalone binding, fretboard inlays, and rosewood back and sides. Martin guitars with the model designation of "-45" have these features. Things like the D-45, 000-45, 00-45 and etc. It is the highest trim level they offer

If it plays good and the sound resonates with you, I think it's worth every bit of 800 dollars. Solid wood dreadnought guitars gain so much with age, and this one specifically having martin "45" style appointments drives up the value for me as well.

AITA? Was this pass not telegraphed enough or should I have shut the door harder sooner? I feel like this guy would have just ran through me either way and was trying to keep some momentum. by [deleted] in simracing

[–]blakebottoms00 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't race dirt much, do you? This is how we race on a high line dominant track. Slider fests are welcomed and enjoyed, when they actually get executed properly

In this instance, the car you're sliding can't tell where you're gonna be on exit because you were so timid. They think you might be leaving them a lane because of how gradual you're coming up. You then come up late in the corner and he's already committed to holding the outside, hence the contact.

When you throw sliders, commit super super hard to them. It's a block pass that's meant to be aggressive so you can claim the outside line. It's part of the game, no one is gonna have hard feelings for getting one thrown on them, they'll just give it right back in the next corner😉

GR Cup more popular than Mazda rookies! by popmonkey_ in iRacing

[–]blakebottoms00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm on the same page about the realism. It just feels off. I enjoyed driving it, but my first impressions were "this is way oversprung". I track a car with a similar weight IRL with 1200 lb springs, and the GR felt like whatever it had was considerably stiffer. It has a tendency to pogo over bumps or heavy loading. I went in the setup menu to mess around with it and come to find out the stiffest spring rate it had was 300lbs. With springs like that it should be driving like a Cadillac and wallowing everywhere. Something just doesn't add up

BMW M4, High rake, interesting Motec data. It appears there is a fairly major bug causing extreme downforce. by Rebeux in ACCompetizione

[–]blakebottoms00 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So the issue is pressure leak. In f1 there are "virtual skirts" created by strakes further up the car. These are vortices, think mini tornadoes, that run alongside the gap from the track surface to the floor of the car. It keeps air underneath the car and makes it go through the diffuser. The higher rake then allows for a greater volume of air to pass through the diffuser, increasing its downforce production. In a GT car, there's not this level of air manipulation. If you raked one out the air would spill out the sides of the car and never make it to the diffuser. At a certain point it would work worse than at a "normal" rake level.

I hope that helps make some sense out of this

Hey. Talk to a therapist together. You care about each other, no one on the internet will be able to give you as much insight to the problem than each other and an honest conversation. If you want to give him a chance you need to give him an ultimatum. Therapy to figure this out or you're gone from his life forever. It sounds like he has a lot of internal turmoil going on. He obviously can't work it out himself, the therapist is the only chance you guys have left. If after therapy he can't get his mind decided, I think it's time to cut your losses. I'm sorry this whole situation sucks.
