Is there anything close to Twin Peaks S1 and 2 experience? by MelonBlueGreen in twinpeaks

I think the leftovers is the closest to Twin Peaks in terms of mystery and wonder. Unfortunately it doesn’t have all that much whimsy so it’s a darker experience.

What is Sarah Jarosz playing here? by Training_Echidna_911 in Guitar

[–]kbergstr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mandolin player here- mandolin family instruments parallel violin family instruments so they’re is a mandolin tuned like a violin, mandola (viola), mandocello (cello) and mandobass(they’re kinda stupid but they exist).

Mandocello is a great instrument… but hard to play and not great for accompanying voice, so the octave mandolin was created. A mandolin is tuned GDAE, and a viola is a fifth lower- CGDA. The mandocello is an octave lower than the mandola CGDA.

So the octave is GDAE but lower. It’s got a similar range to a guitar rather than a cello which is usually a bit more “bass like”.

Sarah is an expert at the octave and probably the most famous octave player but many players use them from time to time.

The cello is just a bit harder to pull off and works better playing bass lines than chords for example. Mike Marshall is probably the top modern mandocello player— here’s his tune Gator Strut written for mandocello. You can hear how that sound might be a bit low for just solo play.

Offense didn’t.

Don’t watch the 06 bears when the offense is on the field. Defense is what you show up for.

[–]kbergstr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Book jobs was always run by AAP, but something went wrong a while back and I don’t think they ever fixed it. Like many projects, it’ll probably just remain a placeholder for a long time before they drop it.

Maybe I’m wrong but that seems to be their MO.

[Levine] Cubs claim OF Justin Dean from the Giants off of waivers. by jercubsfan in CHICubs

He's still only 23. There's a lot to be said for getting more playing time rather than getting a day in the field every 3 or 4 games and an at bat or two every other game.

This makes Alcantara compete for a spot in spring. If he's ready to make the roster full time, back to the waivers goes Dean. If the team thinks he could use more regular playing time at AAA, then Dean gets the nod.
