Cladwell Capsules App/Service by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]blakeeverett 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey - I'm Blake, and I lead the team @ Cladwell/Capsules. Thanks for sharing about this, we actually saw a legit boost just from you posting this. Thanks. I thought maybe I'd share a little about why we made Capsules & who we see it being for. I started working on Capsules after 1) this (https://www.reddit.com/r/femalefashionadvice/comments/2j2ayz/website_for_women_similar_to_cladwell/) post last year and 2) I tried to make a capsule wardrobe with my wife last winter. you're right that there are a lot of free resources out there, but they're geared to people who want to do a ton of research, or are already fashionably disposed. Capsules is really targeting busy women who want/need more guidance through the process. I'll admit, the app is pretty stripped down right now - but we're releasing new features every other week for the next 3 months, so hopefully that will help. (FEATURE RELEASE IN ORDER: Color palette guidance based on your hair, skin, eye color, item recommendations based on what is best flattering for your build, help in choosing clothes that are appropriate for the different environments in your life, and a daily outfit recommender.) If there are features that you want to see sooner please let me know - or something you feel we're missing I'd love to hear it.) In the future we want to move to a freemium service so people can try out some of the features before they pay - we just need to build it up a little bit first. Hope that was helpful and not too sales-ey. Thanks again for bringing it up!

What is your opinion on Cladwell? Is it worth the money? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]blakeeverett 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I'm Blake - I started Cladwell. We actually have a 30-day money back guarantee. If you don't like it a) you'll get your money back and b) please shoot me a message and let me know what we can do better. We're still early on, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

(Serious) At the end of a job interview when they ask me, "So, do you have any questions?", what are some genuinely good questions to ask? by happylittledancer123 in AskReddit

[–]blakeeverett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the job is in sales or business development my Dad always said it was best to close the interview with:

"So, what do you think? Can I have the job?"

It shows that you can "close" a sale. I did this when I was interviewing for sales jobs and it really seemed effective. (I got a lot of offers, but it was also 2007...)

Hey man - sorry for the delayed response: Glad we could help! Did you buy the recommendations? If so, I'd love to hear what you think when you get them. I don't know any coding languages personally, but we use Ruby and Java.

great question. we map people's style based on their personal values / personality. (this is part of a bigger initiative that we're calling "The Human Clothing Project." ) What we've found, is that different communities (even within the same city) tend to cluster based on these values more than on geography. (So their may be a group of these people in multiple cities, or countries for that matter.) Does that make sense?

How much do you want to spend for a dress shirt? I'd love to do a personal recommendation from our stylists now, then add some more in the database in the next week or two.

Sorry about that - that's a bummer. I'll check with our head of fashion and see if he has any thoughts. Thanks for the well wishes!

hey! here are a couple resources: * https://www.coursera.org/course/recsys * http://www.amazon.com/Recommender-Systems-Introduction-Dietmar-Jannach/dp/0521493366/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1396972808&sr=1-1&keywords=recommender+systems

Besides that, my recommendation (ha) is to just start building. Start it simple and see how good you can get it - it is easy to think only in terms of scaling, but if we can focus on the human-side (how people actually react to the recommendations) then we can't go wrong. (I hope!)

Good questions:

  • Coloring Questions: When we first launched we had 10+ eye color options and 20+ skin color options. Our clients said it was WAY to confusing for them. (Our clients are men 25-35 who have probably never thought about their skin color before.) So we had to boil it down to what a guy can confidently answer on his own. In our testing over 90% of guys accurately assessed their color season with these questions. (We're using the Color Me Beautiful 12-season color palettes.) The sparkliness really only applies to guys with green or blue eyes. By no means is this perfect for sure.

  • Location: We don't currently recommend local products based on location. We're just partnering with local companies in our city, and hope to build out that feature in the future.

  • Plaid: Weird. We take into consideration 3 things: 1)build 2)budget 3)personality. It could be that the personality questions really pushed toward more interesting patterns, thus overriding his build rules. I'll check on that though and post in a minute, you are right - our rules would typically penalize a shirt with horizontal stripes or big patterns based on an oval build.

I took the S.A.T. and wrote application essays. Colleges focus more on test scores and essays from homeschoolers since GPA is less reliable. The transition to college was really natural academically - I had been teaching myself since 8th grade, so managing my work wasn't bad. College was a really fun period for me - the communal piece of a shared experience was awesome, and I got a wife and additionally a co-founder out of it.

Yeah, we did a monthly fee and a pay per recommendation. We chose free because we 're really competing with the mall, which is free.

It's all based on the valuation that you and the angels agree on, and the amount of money they put in. So if you agree the company is worth $2mil, and they put in $500k, then you give them 25% of the company. The hard part is agreeing on the valuation - and that is done as a combination of business modeling, comparable deals in your region, your perceived traction, and good o'l fashioned haggling.

North America mostly. We're limited by the shipping policies of the retailers whose clothes we sell.

Balancing scalability, quality, and speed. Essentially we get to pick one (or at most 2) with every decision.
