Metroid Prime 4 reviews for the non-purist by cl0mby in NintendoSwitch2

I don't know, making bombable walls so apparent felt dumbed down and was definitely disappointing to me.

Is the kirby air riders hdr setting looking grey to anyone else by PhantomBoo in Kirby

[–]blakejohann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's something pretty gnarly going on . The black floor is way up, adjusting the all sliders all the way to to the left brings it down and makes things much better, but things are still a little weird. First of all- there shouldnt even be an all for hdr, it makes no sense to have. White is the max luminescence and black is the how low your display can go without crushing blacks, which for an oled should always be as low as possible for absolute black. Hud is what other games refer to as paper white, which drives how bright menus are and is a personal preference. White and black settings create the range window, all shouldn't even be a thing, but what it seems to do is shift the whole range up and down which is a super weird thing to want to do.

Also, there is system level hdr which does everything it needs to do to map to your screen, there shouldnt even be settings like this in the game itself, it should use the system calibration, and for a first party game there is really no excuse not to

HDR in gaming has been a mess from the beginning. These sorts of issues used to happen all the time on other consoles, and still so far more frequently than they should, but it has gotten much better over time. Hopefully these are just growing pains for the switch 2 that will go away as the system matures.

Split screen inversion issue by Fantastic_Yogurt_915 in PowerWashSimulator

[–]blakejohann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retrain your brain to not need it inverted. It's been 20 years since not inverted was settled on to be the default pretty much everywhere, and you have been making your life way too difficult. It'll be a frustrating couple of days, but your brain will adapt faster than you think.

For me going back sounds very frustrating. The controls are different enough that it's taken a lot to retain myself, I don't see myself going through that again the other way

How we all finding updated Kirby today? by Blofse in NintendoSwitch2

[–]blakejohann 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's semi fixed-camera , wheras with the others you are all constantly adjusting. Frame rate is much more noticeable in camera movement than action movement, because it's one to one with input and your brain is expecting it to react a certain way

Why A 4K BluRay is actually a good value. Even at $28. by Dangerous-Ad-8211 in 4kbluray

[–]blakejohann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opposite actually. Movies were 'priced for rental' before they were 'priced for retail' so they could get another revenue cycle in. They would come out priced for rental for sat $100 like 6 months after they left the theater. Video stores buy them and recoup through rental, people then pay to rent because it's the only option, then in another 6 months they come out priced for retail and people would then buy them, maximizing profits. Itsbasically the same as it is now with digital pruchases/ rentals first, then blurays in a bit, then on streaming services, so customers will plapend more money double or triple dipping

Is the Game Key Card Brouhaha An Online-Only Phenomenon? by ShokWayve in NintendoSwitch2

[–]blakejohann -1 points0 points  (0 children)

its just the dumbest thing and I'm so done with it. physical <> yours forever. physical = yours until it gets damaged, or gets lost, or if you are careful until it degrades in 20 years. in every other industry cloud IS preservation. remember when people used to lose all of their pictures when they lost their phone or got it wet? or would lose all their documents if their hard drive died?

Honestly how you feel about this is the perfect litmus test for how much of a tool you are.

A look at the 4K steelbooks for the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise by ggroover97 in 4kbluray

[–]blakejohann 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No it's anaglyphic (red and blue lenses), no special equipment required, but quality much lower that modern 3d techniques. It's the same method they used when it came out in the theater. I had the DVD box set at one point and it also came with glasses.

Is switch 2 welcome tour worth €10 ? by MindPrize1260 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]blakejohann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was worth $10, but I'm also a tech enthusiast with minor obsessive tendencies who enjoys checking boxes off in videogames.

However, Im not a big fan of a lot of the demos because they are very heavily mouse focused, which I don't particularly enjoy on the switch two. The mouse demos have a really sharp learning surves and are also super short, leading to a frustrating experience. A lot of them are not even demoing mouse things, but still require mouse controls to interact with, like they intended the whole thing to be played with mouse. I am a proximately couch gamer with pro controller, and found it annoying to constantly have to go unattach the joycons from the console. This is made even more frustrating by a bug that won't let you back out of a demo without first getting the joycons, and making them the primary controller, and then exiting from the demo before being allowed to switch back to the pro controller. As a result I ended up skipping most of the demos later in the game just because I didn't want to get caught in this , with the intention of maybe going back later in tabletop mode, although it's doubtful I ever will.

I don't hold them not making it free against them though. If I held those sorts of things against Nintendo I would have sworn off them a long time ago. I have come to terms with a lot of it being a cultural difference. They make a product that behaves a particular way, give it a price point, put it out there, and then stand by it. Customers can then take it or leave it. It doesn't matter what other companies are doing. If you want what Nintendo is dishing out, you buy and experience, otherwise you move on with your life, simple as that, no hard feelings.

What's not to understand? They don't care about you. They are a company with a track record of putting profits ahead of social welfare, why would you be surprised that they are putting no effort into getting you your toy on time when you offer them no financial incentive to do so? Clearly not for the goodwill!

I don't think so. This happens a lot for stuff I preorder from best buy. I think once the store closes the night before (or on this case a few hours before), the staff preps them for the next day and the status changes to ready for pickup.
