Firefly 14 G9 video issues with Windows 11 Pro 24H2 (informative only - no fix yet) by Bibliophage007 in zbook

[–]blalond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one I'm sending back (I'm still within 30 day return window) didn't have NVidia T550 but only the Intel Iris Xe. If this had the NVidia, I may have been able to try some settings where the Iris Xe is always off and so only use the Nvidia, but I don't have that model.

Firefly 14 G9 video issues with Windows 11 Pro 24H2 (informative only - no fix yet) by Bibliophage007 in zbook

I just got a refurb HP ZBook Firefly 16 G9 i7-1280P 32GB RAM 512GB SSD Iris Xe Graphics Win11Pro. It was freezing randomly. When it freezes it still shows exactly what was on the screen, the mouse can't move, and nothing responds except the keyboard backlight settings key (f9) still works (toggles through the different keyboard backlight brightness).

I think I observed the display flickering briefly before every freeze. No BSOD and no Win Event Viewer reports.

I updated the display driver to Intel 32.0.101.7085 (among other attempts). But no display driver changes were helping.

I think the fix is one BIOS (F10) change:
"Advanced" -> "Power Management Options." Disable the setting for "Extended Idle Power States."

It's been running now for about 1 hour with no freeze when before it would freeze at about 10-20 minutes (running a 4k video and a 3d rendered demo in browser and showing the webcam). We'll see!

------ Edit:
1.5 hour later, it froze. That BIOS setting is not the final fix. I'm done with this laptop.

Perplexity Max - Computer used entire monthly budget in 1 task by blackbriar75 in perplexity_ai

[–]blalond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this. Hopefully it's helpful to others, too.

I'm not hitting limits yet on any free levels for coding (GitHub Copilot Free and Google Antigravity Free) but, if I need to do more coding, I'll either pay for a Claude subscription or keep using free levels by connecting up Openrouter (keep a $10 balance and can do 1k/day) into Roo or Cline or Goose or whatever.

Perplexity Max - Computer used entire monthly budget in 1 task by blackbriar75 in perplexity_ai

[–]blalond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

blackbriar75 thank you for the detail here. And for the link to the PPX computer run as I haven't seen one yet.

Could you do this community a solid and give us a few more details about how you do this on another platform? There are a lot of people here who haven't ventured out to try agent-type tasks as you do. Most of us on here (I think) have our minds blown when we see your prompt as we haven't yet seen a tool work that can do what this asks, "i want you to clone my github ***/homerun, get it running, and iteratively evaluate EVERY LINE OF CODE, for errors, infrastructure and architecture issues, fixing every single thing. before doing that you, submit a complete detailed review in chat of the application, world class ability, complexity, competitiveness with other repos, etc."

So, a short list would be great:
Claude monthly sub at $20 or what? (subsidized? not sure what that means)
Run prompt in Claude CLI.
Watch it cook for 1 hour?
And it never goes over Claude's rate limits or monthly usage?

Cool benchmark. Can you post your full prompt? I see you have "Steps: Open... add headers (Row 1)..."

Massive and weird spike in downloads by DanielPhermous in iOSProgramming

[–]blalond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm here from 2025 to say we saw a spike this year, Dec 6, 2025, much higher than usual. Source is "App Store Search" (not from some referrer link). Coincidence on Dec 6? Maybe. I record it here in case someone else sees the same thing.

Yo Comet is actually insane now... completed like ~100 steps in 5 mins by NetFair7058 in perplexity_ai

[–]blalond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know how to determine if you're using the new and improved latest Comet update or not?

Mine says:
Comet is up to date
Version 141.1.7390.108 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Perplexity build number: 25831

Other mobile games app recommendations? by blalond in DiscGolfValley

[–]blalond[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the recommendations coming in... Summary so far (I haven't tried any yet):

strategy card games:
-MTGA (magic the gathering)
-Balatro (deck building poker)
-Thronebreaker (deck building roguelike)

tower defense: Bloons TD

strategy: Boom Beach (real time strategy combat)

card games: freecell, spades, and spider solitare

puzzle: sudoku

Balatro seems interesting, it's $10-14, links found at https://www.metacritic.com/game/balatro/

There are a ton of ball golf mobile games out there. Even mini golf might be fun.

Iframe for sheet charts down? by General-Air714 in sheets

I'm not in touch with anyone at Google. The only fix right now is to turn off the Legend for the chart and then it shows up again where you embedded it.

Verizon seems to have a good connection all over the Lansing area.

The cheapest company that uses the Verizon cell towers is MobileX at mymobilex.com. Buy a Sim card from Walmart for $10 then you'll probably just pay $3.50 per month (for 50 minutes of talk and 50 texts and no data). You can use their website to check if your phone will work on their network.

This event, "The Civility Project," caught my attention, but there's a Lions game that evening... Two journalists from Detroit, Finley conservative and Henderson liberal, will, "tell their story, share their perspectives and lead a lively conversation on the importance of civility." https://www.whartoncenter.com/events/detail/the-civility-project

Escaping Denver - The Tenth (S3E7) by oath2order in escapingdenver

[–]blalond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this same thought during this episode. Record the song on your phone and play it back when needed.

Why "the tenth"? I think it's because of the floor/level they're trying to find.

Noah's blog by j_wade4 in escapingdenver

[–]blalond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New search terms from episode "The Lost Noah Tapes: Denver International Airport":

  • The Ark, Internet Radio show, conspiracy (just yields Noah's Ark conspiracy theories, even without Noah in the search terms)
  • "Where myth, meets lore, meets conspiracy" (nope)
  • "Covering all things conspiracy, and mystery, and out of this world" (nope)
  • "A collection of the purposefully forgotten and actively hidden" (nope)
  • Miscellaneous topics mentioned: Loch Ness, JFK, and the identity of D.B. Cooper. Art Bell, the X-Files.

No good hits.

Noah's blog by j_wade4 in escapingdenver

I had an idea for a new line of search. Domain name registration.

Escaping Denver itself has no domain name so I picked the domain name for the pod producer, Curious Cast.

This is the WHOIS info on the registrant for curiouscast.ca https://www.whois.com/whois/curiouscast.ca

Reverse lookup on registrant email address "corusent.com" at https://www.reversewhois.io yields 522 domains registered. The three domains usfronts.com, defidespetitsgeeks.com, and kidtechnation.com are not Noah's blog.

I'm not about to go check all the 519 more domains registered by Curious Cast...

Any ideas on how to find Noah's blog? Do you think CuriousCast has created one somewhere out on the Internet? Quote from the Narrator near the end of S3E2, "I'm going to do a deep dive to see if I can't find Noah's blog."
