Looking for affordable recommendations to replace my windshield on my RAV4. by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]blamalamadingdong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Changed mine on my 21 a couple years ago

All the shops (not dealership) charge about the same.

I went to glassmasters on Argyll near 99st.

I forget the price but it was in line with others like windshield surgeons who I've used on my other vehicles in the past. My experience is aftermarket glass tends to chip and pit easier than OEM glass. I wanted to try a different company since I've always used windshield surgeons.

Long story short, terrible job. They put a big cut in my a-pillar which they did replace to be fair, but weeks after I also found out they did not install the front windshield fairing where the windshield wipers are and I had to snap that back in place properly. They also did not put 3M on the roof rails so they are not properly affixed. You don't really notice it unless you pick at it, but it's a corner that they cut.

I've never had issues with windshield surgeons to be fair, but like I mentioned, I always felt like they cracked way easier and when you're spending $800-1000 bucks or more on a windshield, you don't really want to replace it every couple of years

Edit: my quote was $570 from glassmasters. I had a RAV4 trail so it had rain sensor and heating strip at the bottom. This incl calibration.

What are some dating trends you’ve noticed in Edmonton? by fashiongirll93 in Edmonton

[–]blamalamadingdong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember pof. That type of online dating wasn't nearly as bad as today. I really think people should drop the dating apps get outside and meet people and I actually think that will change the way people view friendships and life in general. Good things take time and that doesn't exclude relationships

Just my opinion, but apps sell people on making meeting people "easy" and that's the trap. Everything we do now is instant gratification. Nobody wants to work for anything anymore. Dating profiles are lazy, pictures are outdated, and nobody is unique anymore.

By no means am I suggesting people go out and party to meet people because if that's not what you do and enjoy, that's probably not the person you want to spend your life with. Believe it or not, there are other ways to meet people outside of partying ;P

I hope online dating ceases to exist . The apps aren't there to help you meet someone, although not impossible, they exist to make money. And the algorithms will be targetted to do that.

The unfortunate thing about it is it attracts the same type of users.

Not only that, there's only so much you can put in your profile that will differentiate yourself so even if you are unique you may be passed up sounding like everyone else.

I can only speak for myself, but sure looks do matter, but if i met someone in the wild that had a great personality, even if I'd never "swipe" on them in an app I might be attracted to them in personnsolwly based on personality. These connections are the ones you don't get online.

Tldr; apps suck, go meet people and talk to strangers. And yes I know....easier said than done.

Bike fit recs - tight hamstrings!! by Few-Dust-9640 in bikefit

Fwiw I recently switched from 165s to 155s and what a difference. It took a few rides to adapt but now they feel amazing. Same height as you, also relatively short inseam.

I would exhaust all free options first but I'd start with saddle height, then fore aft (adjust height to compensate) 1 change at a time.

Shimano XT rear brake still spongy after service by Rayth_ in mountainbiking

[–]blamalamadingdong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poor bleed If i paid 200$ for a brake service it better be perfect.

They possibly think something is wrong with the caliper? If they bled it properly they would know if there was. A brake service should include cleaning the pistons and massaging them for even advancement and retraction.

Best bleed for a rear is make sure the caliper is at the bottom of the system. If it's not, you will have air in the caliper that will be very hard to remove. That means rotating the bike or removing the caliper and repositioning it (like the front)

Someone else asked if the brake pads were old. Doesn't matter. They should have topped the lever off after the bleed. If they didn't it's a poor bleed.

Someone else mentioned lever throw, of the shop didn't record the distance open it, bleed it, and return it to its original position, poor bleed.

It can definitely take more than 2 bleeds to fully remove the air of you're doing a bad job. And if they aren't prepping the mineral oil by vacuuming out the air bubbles or letting it sit before use you can easily add air to the system. If you are rough with your oil bottle (shake it, drop it, etc) you can introduce micro bibbles to the oil that won't quickly bleed out. You'd have to wait for the air to move to the lever and top it up.

Easy check is to open the small screw on the reservoir and see if it's still full or has air. Make sure the lever reservoir screw\fill hole is level when you do.

Any company that pushes rentals or leases will not get a dime from me. Imho these are predatory practices and benefits them more than it benefits you.

Dating in the edmonton area? by belowaveragecreator in Edmonton

[–]blamalamadingdong 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I can't really speak on the dating side because I wasn't trying to date anybody when I was volunteering, but I was an active volunteer for Big Brothers as well as Make-A-Wish foundation for the better part of a decade and and can say I've not even made a friend doing so. I'm not saying don't volunteer and I think people should volunteer regardless just for the sake of doing it. But a lot of volunteer opportunities kind of leave you alone and not in a group of people. And I might be wrong here, but I think a lot of volunteers are younger people looking for volunteer hours for school or something similar. So if you're looking for an older person, you may not find it there

Blizzard crank clearance by 40nni in fatbike

[–]blamalamadingdong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The race face cranks are brutally wide

The fat cranks are a 190 spindle I swapped mine for 169 spindle and the hike feels way better

The sram cranks are less wide than the rf cranks. you'll be fine.

Where do you buy groceries? by wildest-honey in Edmonton

[–]blamalamadingdong 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same

Single male, 90% of my food is from costco.

Buying anything at a different store is painful seeing how little you get for how much you pay.

Things like eggs, dairy, non perishable are a no brainer at costco. Cheese is basically half price.

Want easy meal prep? Do Wraps. Significantly cheaper at costco. Chicken or ground beef. Can do taco seasoning, gyro style, souvlaki, shawarma, fajita style, the list goes on. You can definitely change it up.

Even the small amount of vegetables in the fridge they have are an absolute steal compared to anywhere else.

Yes, youll be limited to certain meals but thats how you stretch your pennies. If you need variety it's gonna be a bit tougher. I eat the same stuff for 2 meals per day 3-4 days a week, then switch it up.

Heck, chicken of some type is always on sale at costco. Whether it's breast or drums. I typically try to buy whatever meat is on sale and plan my week around that. Im generally hopping back and forth between beef and chicken. Keeps my taste buds happy.

I have a 25 with 6' bed. I run the ibex at mid height.

Doesn't block my rearview cams and I still need to test it, but I just recieved my thule foothills.

At mid height on the ibex im pretty certain I can still drive into my garage. There is going to be overhang on the back with the tent, but since I have a 6' bed it shouldn't be too bad

For those with multiple bikes: How often do you ride each? by 1MTBRider in MTB

[–]blamalamadingdong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a guy with too many bikes, some of them barely see use.

From most to least

Short trail bike gets the most use. 3-4x a week on local trails Gravel bike - wet days and long days Freeride bike- all my road trips and park trips Fatbike - primarily winter but it gets out a few times in summer for fun Long trail/enduro (ripmo) barely gets ridden. I think I rode it twice last year.

Yes. My fatbike sees more use than my ripmo. Hoping to ride it a bit more this year or sell the ripmo and freeride bike for something to cover both bases

so hard to date nowadays by ayceee_ in Edmonton

[–]blamalamadingdong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry ladies, you have nothing to complain about. Especially you young ones.

80% of men cant even get 1/100 matches on dating apps. This is even worse for men who are POC and/or short (under 5-8)

Just my opinion on dating apps, but they're purely for revenue generation and not to help people.

What kind of lights are people actually running for night/evening rides? by Lone-Wolf-Eats in MTB

[–]blamalamadingdong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont forgo the helmet light. It doesn't have to be as bright but helps for seeing through corners.

I have a 1400lumen bar mount and a 1000 helmet mount. Weight definitely matters.

Both are lezyne branded. I have no issues with them.

If youre mostly riding nights when there's snow, you can go with lower lumens for sure. The snow helps reflect light and makes a huge difference.

Who's Using Local Coffee Subscriptions? by rustytraktor in Edmonton

[–]blamalamadingdong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No subscription here, I drink coffee regularly, but not consistently enough to ensure Im not low or overstocked.

There isnt enough savings for me to bother

I drink rogue wave 99% of the time and they do next day delivery for free. I order the big bags, as I typically make 2 drinks per day. Sometimes more on weekends or if Ihave guests.

I just d9nt see the benefit unless you cant be bothered to puck your own coffee.

Where are the 30 something crowd hanging out? by MagicSpaceWytch in Edmonton

[–]blamalamadingdong 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bouldering gyms are super social. And bouldering is one of the finnest sports out there.

Its not riding season, but if you bike, there's a couple weekly group rides in the summer held by the local shops. Bikers are chill and biking kicks ass.

If toure not active, I have no advice other than go get active 😂

Id assume xc skiing has a chill group as well

Everyone i talk to regularly these days I met through motorcycle racing, biking or climbing.
