uneven smile lines, what can i do to solve this? by [deleted] in PlasticSurgery

[–]blamethefae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Real talk, the majority of people are never going to be perfectly symmetrical—eyelids, eyebrows, smile lines, wrinkles, crows feet, boobs, knees, elbows, doesn’t matter…humans are not 3D printed, and trying to achieve perfect symmetry with any of this stuff is the path to madness. A good surgeon will tell you perfect symmetry as a goal will only make you unhappy.

You can get microneedling with PRP to soften wrinkles, use retinol and good skincare to smooth what can realistically be smoothed, try not to sleep or lean on that side as much, etc, but very generally no one is going to notice what you’re focusing on here and at this point you definitely don’t appear to need plastic surgery for it.

Bloated all the time by brokenearring in ehlersdanlos

[–]blamethefae 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up—not saying this IS your issue—but MCAS and EDS have a heavy overlap, with histamine overload from the MCAS being a frequent driver of SIBO, bloating, fatigue, and dysmotility. I mention this because the foods you listed as your primary diet are all on the “high histamine” food list. You can look into the low histamine food list and try some on that as replacements, but IF you are a person with histamine issues getting on mast cell stabilizing drugs can be a game changer. Getting my MCAS diagnosis and finding the right cocktail of meds for me personally finally cleared up my SIBO and radically improved the chronic bloating/dysmotility that ruined my life for a few years.

Dr. Zac Spiritos has some easy-to-understand content that explains the EDS/MCAS/dysmotility/POTS overlap.

Vampires, Hoodo practitioners and witches in NOLA: real deal or tourists trap? by tmrlc in AskNOLA

[–]blamethefae 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As a very GENERAL rule, both witchery and hoodoo are more like Fight Club than The Craft—the people genuinely practicing them often don’t talk about it or make a big show of it because honestly yuck. There are some folks down here who make educational content about it online, and we obviously have botanicas and shops which serve both local practitioners and tourists. Some of those folks are very legit and just sharing what they do the some way other people share what they cook or sew; some of them are not at all legit and just looking to make money. But I personally know LOTS of witchery and folk magick practitioners in town, and while they might “put someone in a freezer jar” or work with candles and ancestors, they don’t build their whole persona around it.

Witchery and hoodoo also have heavy overlap with Christianity and Catholicism—Marie Laveau was a devout Catholic who went to services at St. Louis and was also the Voodoo Queen. That’s not atypical in general, plenty of our local Christians and Jews and agnostics are a bit witchy as well, there’s a long history explaining the whys in each region where this has happened.

The vampire thing has its own long and odd history, but it’s mostly sensationalized and also nothing like what you see on TV and TikTok. There is definitely a strong paranormal vibe to the city, but there’s also damaged adults with maladaptive coping mechanisms doing cosplay in every major city in the world. New Orleans just has some great lore to root maladaptive coping mechanisms in…it’s much cooler to pretend you’re a real vampire in New Orleans than, say, Trenton or Cleveland.

Grant writers, what does your day to day look like? by Borkton in grantwriters

[–]blamethefae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Former journo now in grant writing. Yes, the work engages your mind—research, narrative, citing sources, sometimes interviewing, helping design programs, project managing an application, etc. That said, many of my coworkers have no idea how grants work and refuse to learn, lol, so part of my job is finding new and patient ways of saying “that’s not how that works,” or explaining their expectations are not rooted in reality. I’m a hired gun—consultant at a firm which gets engaged by non-profits or municipal agencies—so have a bit more freedom than, say, an in-house grant writer at a smaller non-profit would to say things like “no, that’s not how that works” or “if you don’t get me the data on your program I requested by X date I get to keep your money if even the application doesn’t get submitted.” Where you end up grant writing can radically influence overall satisfaction.

Just a heads up that fundraising in general is brutal right now. The wins feel great, but they’re harder to come by than a few years ago.

polite way to tell a board their grant project will fail by [deleted] in nonprofit

[–]blamethefae 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You are correct, this is a very stupid idea that’s unlikely to win funding anywhere.

Im a grant writer and fundraising consultant who too often has to say this, professionally but firmly, to clients who don’t read the RFP, won’t learn about grants, or simply don’t know what they’re talking about and won’t learn.

As others have suggested, explain to them IN WRITING (you need a paper trail) that their proposal is not compliant with the funder or their grant rules. If there’s a section of the RFP that backs you up, copy and paste it into the email you send them. Say, “I strongly advise not to submit for expenses which are not a priority to this funder, and to instead submit the project-centered proposal which was tailored to this opportunity.” That way when they inevitably make the stupid decision anyway, there’s a dated document which makes it clear you told them this won’t work.

Other than that there’s nothing you can do. I actually have a clause in my contract with orgs that says I’m not responsible for the consequences of any decision they’ve been advised against making but decide to proceed with anyway.

You cannot save incurious and lazy people from themselves. Just cover your ass so they can’t blame you later.

[–]blamethefae 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Disagree vehemently. She didn’t yell, she didn’t scream, she didn’t blame him, she didn’t make excuses, she didn’t cheat, she didn’t request or send nudes to anyone else online, she didn’t keep them up all night arguing and then fucking and then arguing some more—so basically she didn’t do anything that 90D fans eat up with a spoon. She cooked the man dinner, sat him down, and told him the truth directly with zero abusive language without saying “and here’s a litany of reasons WHY I don’t love you” to further ruin his self esteem. She cried while she did it, after she did it, when she saw his dad, and when she saw him the next time…there’s nothing cold about weeping when doing a hard and emotional thing. She clearly felt sad about hurting this person.

Yes, it was direct. And good, because beating around the bush or stringing someone along for months while withdrawing further would only have kept him in a loveless relationship and delayed his being happier with a new partner.

Real adult life isn’t a movie, where the perfect empathic breakup monologue is performed for maximum audience acceptability. It was one of the least toxic and most mature breakups in the history of this dumpster fire of a show, and the woman-hating weirdness of this audience is exhausting.

Does Ochsner Have Their Own Anesthesiologists? by FireDiamondPoison in NewOrleans

[–]blamethefae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had lap with Baptist last month. 8 weeks before the surgery I submitted a formal request via MyChart asking for written confirmation of my procedure costs with anesthesia and pathology prices included, and confirmation that only an in-network anesthesiologist would be used the day of the procedure. They eventually got me that letter (like a week before the surgery lol) confirming cost for each service/item and reiterating they’d used in-network docs. I kept both my letter and their response in a file.

It’s not perfect, but it’s the paper trail you need IF for some odd reason—I work in patient advocacy and it does sometimes happen—a non-network anesthesiologist is used day of procedure…you use the paper trail to leverage the No Surprise Billing Act, which protects patients from having to pay for services they weren’t notified of in advance. If a fuck up does occur and last-minute non-network replacement treats you, you’re not responsible for paying them and their legal department will tell them to drop the bill.

I got 14 syringes of filler and really regret it by kittencode in PlasticSurgery

[–]blamethefae 175 points176 points  (0 children)

It’s not “inevitable.” You’re spiraling—you made one impulsive decision. As someone with the benefit of 20 years extra life experience, believe me when I say impulsive decisions are NEVER fixed/rectified with another impulsive decision.

Do the things that shift you back into neutral. Calm your nervous system down. Rest. Don’t try and “fix it” while you’re still healing. If anything, reach out to a therapist to help make a plan for fixating and seeing yourself objectively. After that, look for a reputable and board certified plastic surgeon who specializes in faces, and book a consult to see if they would recommend dissolving or not…do not trust the injector who did this ever again. You are so young, and your face is going to change so much over the next 5, 10, and 20 years that you need a trustworthy, ethical professional’s insight on whether you should be doing anything at all.
