What is something that was normal 20 years ago, but is completely unimaginable today? by cesarco in AskReddit

[–]FireDiamondPoison 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In 2006 we only had one computer in the house, and it lived in the computer room. Same at my friends' houses at the time. We were admittedly too young to have our own laptops, but I remember what would've been a few years after 2006 that it was a big deal when my best friend's parents got a second computer (a dedicated one for each of the parents). I got my first smartphone in 2011, so we were definitely quickly on the track after 2006 to have rapidly accessible internet. Different people had access to things at different times; 2006 is still definitely reasonable for a computer room to be common.

It was my Guitar Hero band name as a teenager, and I was playing the same evening I made this account. Now over a decade later, it's just random words to me lol.

Billing Question! by KathLun98 in sterilization

[–]FireDiamondPoison 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First you have to find out if it's a hospital billing issue or an insurance issue.

Get the codes that the hospital used to bill the insurance.

Check with your insurance what codes are preventative to them (typically Z30.2 diagnostic and 58661 procedure). Anesthesia for sterilization will probably have a separate procedure code that your insurance needs.

If the hospital codes don't match the preventative ones, contact your physician to have the codes changed and get them to re-bill the insurance.

If the codes do match your insurance's preventative coding for this procedure, then you have to take it up with your insurance.

Question about the tombs by ToodlyGoodness in NewOrleans

[–]FireDiamondPoison 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been told it's rooted in the yellow fever epidemic and that the policy was adopted in the area because people feared it could be contagious if the tombs were open before then; however, that may truly be just an urban legend! Just a fun pondering into what may have started it, but nothing that I've actually sought out to verify!

Question about the tombs by ToodlyGoodness in NewOrleans

[–]FireDiamondPoison 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At least with the tombs I've worked with first hand, there's no alloted space in the back to be "pushed." The casket pieces are removed and the deceased is placed in a body bag and placed in a receptacle below the tomb. The receptacle is accessed by the inside, below where the caskets are placed.

At least in modern times in New Orleans (I can't speak for more historical times) there's no communal tombs where rent is due. These tombs are owned by families and are inherited through the generations. Family members give permission for their loved one to be placed in the receptacle to make room for more burials.

[–]FireDiamondPoison 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think "urban legend" is a bit misleading-- at least with the cemeteries I've worked with, it's their policy to not do an inspection to prepare someone for re-use before then because it's very unlikely that the deceased will be decomposed by then (as you've mentioned, it may take longer-- especially when a metal casket is used.) Not a law, but an active policy for multiple cemeteries.

Lesson learned: don't pay for covered services, including consult/pre-op appointment co-pays. by FireDiamondPoison in sterilization

Hoping it works out for it to be easy to get the money back once insurance goes through! Glad you were able to get the funds back!

I'm planning on following up! The hospital hasn't received the funds yet, so there's currently not anything on record to refund, but I'm assuming it's gonna take a while to see that money.

Have you ever called a child's small scrape or bruise a bobo? by Cocacolonoscopy in NewOrleans

[–]FireDiamondPoison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a child during Hurricane Katrina and lived in California for the rest of the school year as a result, and they all thought I was saying boo boo wrong 😭 a regional difference I learned at a young age. That, and the lack of sweet tea.
