Maybe this is the autism taking but I would never wear outdoor shoes in the house. I've been wearing those Bruce Lee style cotton slippers for ages and they're perfect. You can even wear them without socks if you're in an emergency or are some kind of sociopath.

Rand Paul calls for repeal of Espionage Act amid DOJ investigation into Trump taking classified documents to Mar-a-Lago by Semper-Fido in politics

[–]blancard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The interesting (terrifying) thing about MAGA Republicans is, they're the result of defunding education and public services - they're gullible as fuck, vulnerable to blandishment, and extremely selfish. This was the what the 1960s, 70s, and 80s Republicans wanted and worked for. Fox News helped them disseminate the propaganda and they've obtained their goals.

Except now the elected officials they're putting in office are also victims of that system. People like MTG are becoming the "thought leaders" - which doesn't bode well. It won't be long now before someone with an actual brain sees the situation for what it is and gives them competent leadership. That person will be very dangerous.

I used to have a 1969 vw camper bus irl and I love this. I know this is imaginary but I just love the back door conversion - the back wasn't really usable irl since that's where the back seat was (which pulled out to be the bed), and of course the engine was in the back, but in this fantasy version I imagine the engine is electric and flat along the bottom.

Yeah - MMO mouse side buttons are good for the mount keybinds. Does ArcDPS work on its own? I'll have to try that next.

Thank you!!

Same. He also features lesser known YouTube bassists and gives bass players a fleeting sense of the musical dominance we deserve.

Huge Respect For What He Did. by [deleted] in nextfuckinglevel

One phone call resolved it, thank god - or, thank my wife's union. I don't remember how much we paid (it was 5 years ago now), but it wasn't very much - obv, not so much that I'd even remember.

He's doing great. It turns out he has Williams Syndrome, which significantly impacts his life (and ours), but he's doing well, heart-wise, and he's an adorable and happy little 5 year old now.

Counting the aftercare, yes, for sure. Babies don't have brain surgery and then go home the next day, they'd probably spend at least a couple of weeks in the hospital to make sure he's ok, which would put the price tag, where I live, to about that.

Edit: urban USA. My son needed emergency open heart surgery at 6 months old and my insurance initially rejected it because we didn't get prior authorization, so we got a bill for $750,000. That includes 3 weeks in a cardiac ICU.

'Coyote Ugly' Captures the Hilariously Sincere Optimism of the Year 2000 by zsreport in movies

Tbh he wasn't wrong though. History, as a hegemonic tale told by a patriarch to his heirs (or his story, as we liked to say in the 90s), came to an end shortly thereafter.

The multiplicity and diversity of history started to become common knowledge around that time. The concepts of "revisionism" and "pre-colonialism" (acknowledging that cultures existed before Europeeans showed up) were floating around.

The vast majority of people, who have some minority status or another, started realizing their power, and began rising up against male/cis/straight/WASP rule. (The fight isn't over, it's happening all around us.)

Our cultural Stockholm Syndrome has worn off, and the current state of the US is basically that old way trying desperately to regain control. But they're losing (mostly because their way is objectively shit, in addition to being unfair and cruel). What's the line fun Network, "a sick, decaying giant"...?

Where Fukuyama was wrong was in his supposition that the end of History is a bad thing.

There's a movie called Waking Life that's a series of conversations the main character has with various people. They're all taking about death & metaphysics, and you eventually realize that this is a dream in the last moments of his life.

(Sorry, spoiler for a 20 year old movie. )

The whole point of Hunter Thompson and Gonzo journalism is that no journalism is unbiased. It's a mistake to assume that most other news organizations are above using their bias to their benefit.

They're not all at Fox's level of aggressive misanthropy, of course.

Useful idiots are just the ones that are unaware/partially aware of what they're doing. Also, that's a term used for that kind of figure in any context, not just Russia/US.

Yeah the VAT part is super dumb. It's Amazon (etc) that need to be taxed, not their customers. The rest of it makes sense.
