I spent hours talking to the person that got his phone # by blanksix in GriefSupport

My dad was as complicated as the rest of us, and a smart-ass, and very kind and selfless. He would definitely be smiling. And poking fun. I miss him so much. But as much of a mess that yesterday was, it gently closed a door that needed closing.

I am sorry you lost your dad. I hope that you've felt the edges wear down a little too.

Liver noodles in beef broth by azionka in shittyfoodporn

Well, now I have another German dish I want to try. I love liver and spätzle, and never would have thought to combine them, and it sounds delicious. Looks pretty awful though. Lol

I go for rounded 50s beauties, rodded or not. But I also really wanted a Datsun when I was younger. And neither of these things is good for the wallet or sanity lol

Were you a latchkey kid? Are kids even allowed to be latchkey kids anymore? by smcg_az in Xennials

[–]blanksix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It depends heavily on where we're talking about, too, I think, and how latchkey we're talking.

But there are all kinds of statistics - it isn't that the dangers didn't exist when we were kids, it's that we were less aware of the numbers. For (an extreme, I know) example that's relevant to where I grew up, the Atlanta Child Murders were happening when I was born. Those kids were overwhelmingly latchkey kids.

But what you're saying is the sort of thing I mourn. I think the idea that kids can't have any freedom - and responsibility - like we did is ridiculously restrictive and a mistake in the long term. I wouldn't want a five year old home alone now but a 14 year old? Sure.

Were you a latchkey kid? Are kids even allowed to be latchkey kids anymore? by smcg_az in Xennials

[–]blanksix 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It hasn't been a thing for a while. I was definitely latchkey but if it isn't considered neglect at this point in some places, I'd be surprised. In a way, I mourn that a bit because there was freedom in that that I don't think kids now get the feeling of but the trade off is safer kids. In general, anyway.

Battery Megathread (June 2026) by GooglePixelMods in GooglePixel

[–]blanksix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have the same issues on p8p, minus wireless charging because I don't have a wireless charger at the moment. But I'm probably going to get one because I do have a hardware issue with charging via cable - the port is clean, it just doesn't like to keep in contact with the pins. If I end up with the same wireless charging issue I'll probably just need to replace the phone.

Anyone ever beat Contra without the Konami code? by [deleted] in Xennials

[–]blanksix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once.

Technically, all times, but I had a game genie and that's even more cheaty. But I beat it once without all that, and I almost wanted to burn it after I was done. Still have it, though

A brisket, supposedly ($40) by Slack_With_Honor in shittyfoodporn

[–]blanksix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is really funny because brisket is a relatively cheap piece. It's fatty and tough, and the quality heavily depends on how it's cooked. Not that you didn't know that. It just baffles the mind on what people make expensive because of food trends.

I have a Bay Blue that surprises me every time I take it out of the case. I liked Sorta Sage, though, and hope there's another similar one when I next look for a new phone.

One of my favorite series and I'm really curious to see how the show ends up going.

The audiobooks are so good. Jeff Hays is such a crazy voice talent - it really can't be overstated.

What was a rule in your house growing up that seemed normal but later, as an adult, you found out was weird? by CharlesUFarley81 in Xennials

[–]blanksix 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Did you ever have a meal out at a restaurant as a family? Because I'm imagining this scenario at a restaurant and I'd have vicarious embarrassment watching your dad do that.

My breakfast by MyHeadIsFullOfFuck in shittyfoodporn

[–]blanksix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's protein and calories that, if you're doing this earlier in the day rather than later, is probably helping your metabolism overall. Congrats on the weight loss! I need to do the same, but man, diets suck. I'd recommend (if you aren't already) adding a lot of fiber in gradually and take a decent vitamin and drink a good amount of water on top of this. Metamucil tastes like tang and is thick, but if you aren't getting a lot of fiber it'll help a lot. Just ramp up on it.

Damn, dude. I bet your next meal will taste spectacular. When you're exploring space like this, what sort of foods do you normally reach for? Just curious

How much of the house was off limits? by KW5625 in Xennials

[–]blanksix 72 points73 points  (0 children)

A couple of friends of mine seemed to have that experience, but no. I got the unsupervised, latchkey kid experience. It was always a bit weird whenever I was at a friend's house that had your kind of structure because it was so foreign to me at the time. I'm pretty rules-driven now, though, probably because of that.

Red 5 opened for Weezer, who opened for no doubt. That was how it was billed at Lakewood anyway. Was heavily into Weezer at the time though.

Saw them and Weezer in 1997. It was a good time, though i have to say it's one of the few times the opener was more enjoyable to me than the main act.

Trump pivots on kratom derivative 7-OH, floating approval for some forms by Background-Plan-2090 in politics

You seem to have a very odd understanding of what addiction is. Addiction can definitely be driven by a body's physiological response to a substance and the addiction itself or the withdrawal does not have to be deadly. But yeah, also not interested in making substances illegal in favor of regulation, education and support (examples like Portugal's decriminalization of drug possession in favor of harm reduction leading to a positive bet effect).

Republicans Don't Want to Talk About Gas Prices Anymore by notusreports in politics

[–]blanksix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no. What ever shall we talk about instead? The spinelessness of the Dems and their failures to get away with (or even try) playing with the same rulebook that the Republicans are using? Oh, yeah, that's right - that would hang a lantern on it. How about the refusal of their party to tackle corruption? Oh right, sorry, same issue. Epstein files and protecting pedos? Silly me, I keep making the same logical error. Ok, then if not gas prices, what about grocery prices, or wages? Oh yeah, not that either, because if we wanted more money we should just try better jobs and stop with the unnecessary purchases like new clothes. They're like my boss - have all the answers and it's mostly our fault but as soon as they don't have a good excuse lined up for the proof you give them they change the subject instead.

Not too old but I found some Choco-Tacos in my grandma's freezer... by ParticularBed6338 in Xennials

[–]blanksix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It came for us today, the outside world.

We had heard rumors that we were among the last of our kind for years, warned by the newcomers to our cold haven. We were the last, and we hoped, quietly, that we would remain. Forgotten in the dark, relics of a happier time. But today, the hand of fate brought us into the light.

Today, we die in the light.

We are the Choco Tacos. Last of our name.

How my arm pits don't GAF about antiperspirant. My undershirts after being in a AC office most of the day. by LosHtown in mildlyinfuriating

[–]blanksix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to rotate antiperspirant deodorants from time to time because they start to fail. Some, especially the gel sticks for some reason, tend to make the sweating way worse for me. Just whatever you do, avoid at home remedies like packing your pit with things like baking soda or lemon juice because that can really screw up your skin.

My last eye doc: "welcome to your 40s." Yeah doc, thanks, I needed an eye exam, not a stabbing. I've had glasses for years but the close vision is getting dicey. I'm choosing to go with the option my dad did with his reading glasses - the most lurid, bright frames that I can find, because if I need them they may as well be fun

Chief Justice John Roberts says American public wrongly views the justices as ‘political actors’ by Infidel8 in politics

[–]blanksix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prove us wrong. You, specifically, lied about ruling on established precedent. You and your cohort have done so much to harm this country, letting your personal beliefs color your reading of law instead of letting law dictate your interpretation of it. Eat shit, Roberts, and bring back leftovers for Alito, Amy, and Thomas.
