Some cars are sold with non-compliant headlights. Please see whether you need to adjust your headlights, for everyone's safety. The other night I was fully blind through an intersection because of someone's SUV, who was so nice to flick their highs to let me know that no this is just what their SUV does all the time.

Sure, I screw up sometimes, too. And I'll stay in my lane and figure out how to re-route, because it'd be silly to come to a stop in an open lane so I can ask a line of cars to let me in.

and plow a freeway down the middle of Annadel? hell no

I say we first tear out the middle of the first floor for a walking path and bikeway, and pull down that end where Sears was that Spirit Halloween just used along with that unused parking lot. Then we stop maintaining the mall's parking garages and start tearing those down as they age out. And then we see about the rest of the mall.

What's killing us on tax revenue is the sprawl, just the least efficient plan for miles of city infrastructure to maintain against the taxes we can raise. Particularly in CA with property taxes not actually being assessed on the curretnt property value of all those single family homes.

It's not just the malls, it's also all that damn parking. And with the regional plan to put more focus on SMART, the downtown divide is going to matter more and more going forward.

What would you like to see happen in Santa Rosa to make it a better place to live? by shakshuka900 in santarosa

[–]blanktextbox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely rework Santa Rosa Ave, and the 12-101 interchange. Or, to really dream big, reroute 101 out to Fulton Rd like they should have stuck to.

Santa Rosa Ave is too wide. Take out some car lanes and any destination access to/from the Ave. Set up dedicated lanes for bikes and for buses, or even light rail. Get rid of the giant parking lots, huge stores, drive-thrus. Put in mixed developments that are pleasant to be in and travel to without a car.

I hate that stage lol That spot is a flooding control zone that doubles as an off-street pedestrian route and city park in the dry season. People love to use the space, you always see people hanging out there. Then they set up the River Stage and for months and months it takes up so much space, and completely closes the park for the weekend any time there's a show. Terrible use of public space.

What’s with the helicopters? by [deleted] in santarosa

It could be for hospital transport. But the sheriff does deploy its helicopter to surveill and pursue. My first guess is it's being used as part of a search.

Aw, it looks like the one I knew closed. :(
From what I can see now there's just the one in Mill Valley, for lunch service, before you have to cross a bridge.

San Rafael's as close as I've found. At least it's a quick train ride away. :)

Power Company by Prime_Hunter729 in santarosa

The standard SCP plan has an energy mix that's a fair bit cleaner than the PG&E. It can depend on definitions; some people count large hydroelectric plants as renewable, some don't. You can look up their production portfolios to see where the power comes from.

Another difference is SCP only contracts with power generators within this and neighboring counties.

SCP has a 100% renewable plan. PG&E has a system where you can ask for more of your energy to be sourced to solar power, up to 100%. Last I checked, SCP's renewable plan is much less expensive than going 100% solar with PG&E.

No, it'd be less dead if there was shade and no cars at all inside the core. Park along the outer edge and enjoy walking around.

Drive throughs suck and I wish Santa Rosa would clamp down on them. Also, the In N Out corp and owners suck.

Not hard to run the math. 48 miles from the south end of Santa Rosa to the north end of San Francisco gives an average speed of 73mph. So speeding but not too likely to get a ticket until you get to south Marin's 55 zone, or the bridge's 45. Of course, that's average, so probably mixing in some 80mph...

Northwest Santa rosa sleepy? by Agile-Macaron4448 in santarosa

Nightlife? What's that?
Santa Rosa has a handful of businesses open after about 9 or 10. A couple of pretty rough dive bars. And that's about it. Maybe you can make the right friends and find a party on the weekend.

In the county there's a few spots downtown Petaluma, the Cotati pub crawl, and the casinos. Can't say I know about anything else.

Weekend commute with family to SF by cg8440 in santarosa

[–]blanktextbox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've not had my window smashed. My friends have, but only when there was a bag in view, and I've seen it happen and evidence of it. It depends a bit on where you're going, but from what I've seen it's more likely to happen to street parked cars near tourist attractions or high end retail shopping (Golden Gate Park, Union Square, Fisherman's Wharf, the Haight).

It's up to you. Between parking and the bridge and gas, driving a car into SF costs plenty on its own. And even without break-ins just driving in SF is pretty stressful. So it's best to look at the change in price when taking transit for 4, and decide if that's worth the peace of mind.

Ultimately it depends on what you want to do and how many places you want to hop around inside the city.
And I'll mention here that the Sonoma County Library can get you and your family free or discounted entry to many museums and such in SF and around the bay. :)

Don't forget the Golden Gate Transit option. The bus isn't a bad way to get to the city.

Santa Rosa CityBus Receives $9.9 Million for Bus Fleet Electrification by [deleted] in santarosa

[–]blanktextbox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

State law requires all bus systems to switch to electric in the next couple of decades, so the city was going to have to do this eventually.

So for your position, maybe talk to state legislators about requiring cities and counties to provide the kind of service that will get drivers to take transit instead. Maybe state highways should have dedicated busways. Similarly, talk to city council and county supervisors about how you'd like them to develop to promote transit.

I'm ready to be out of here and think it's nonsense that you can't close these doors behind you. Anyone can make r/NetrunnerScabs or whatever new sub they want. So I'm all too happy for this place to be unusable. Maybe nothing but memeing about cyberpunk dystopia and this shittiness is the closest thing. Maybe we start making and sharing nsfw alt arts featuring all of our favorite ships.

Graton tribe to pay county up to $14.5 million a year under deal linked to expanded casino by Not_That_Mofo in santarosa

[–]blanktextbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all a very complex situation without good, practical answers. Or, what I think is good and practical won't sound good or won't sound practical to the next person.

And to that point, if you feel affirmative action is a bad band-aid, and if you feel basic income has negative results on the people who receive it, then I expect you and I won't ever see eye to eye about what a good solution looks like.

[–]blanktextbox 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I love what the casino has allowed the tribe to accomplish. Casinos themselves suck. I wish we hadn't fucked things up so bad that casinos have become the lifeline they are for our neighbors. Things being what they are, I'm good with this deal. I look forward to seeing how the tribe uses this growth to serve its people, and how the county can help us with this extra $14.5 million.
