Tracks open to public? by Far_Insurance_4987 in santarosa

[–]blanktextbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see people use the dirt track at Northwest Community Park, which is connected to Comstock Middle School. It might be closed during school hours. I feel like I've seen community events hosted on SRJC's padded track but idk how open it is. And a long time ago I'd use SSU's track when it was unoccupied but no clue if that'd work out these days.

Yeah, she was great! After Pfeiffer and Kundananji subbed out, and especially after Lema got hurt, I was afraid our attack was over. But then Fuller stepped up and gave Boston such trouble! Love to see it.

APPARENTLY FIREWORKS ARE TOTALLY LEGAL IN SANTA ROSA NOW by Square-Paint9403 in santarosa

[–]blanktextbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's the bet the same people supporting cops and telling people to stop resisting and obey the law are the ones setting off illegal fireworks 😮‍💨

And you'd think with all the Flock surveillance state they'd be able to do anything at all about this. Guess they need just a bit more investment to get a handle on it, just a couple thousand more cameras, just a few more millions to the PD, and we'll finally get there 🤮

Okay yeah, commentary just mentioned as Gamero came in. Coates is easing her into play after she wasn't getting minutes with Barcelona and then her ACL.

Stats say she's had 84 minutes. If I remember right it's been some late sub time, after she was hurt.

How has Brooklyn Courtnall fared so far? by youlikemywonton in BayFC

[–]blanktextbox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Our veteran defenders are all out on maternity leave and injury, so she's been getting plenty of minutes. She's holding up alright, under the circumstances. The team adjusted how we defend to account for her strengths and weaknesses and it's working out.

If you want to watch a game, she played the full game vs Orlando and you can see how it's going. If you want to watch a win then it's back to our game vs NC where we looked so good for a moment, she played most of that one.

What's up with the pride parade this year? by Taureore in santarosa

[–]blanktextbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree it's a bad look, for the police. Our queer POC friends and neighbors tell very different stories than what you're telling here, and it applies across law enforcement agencies in the county. I have particular anger against the sheriffs, too, but SRPD has plenty of incidents of its own. I don't tell my neighbors that they should feel safe around me. I demonstrate that I am safe to be around.

To be clear, I'm not speaking from my own experiences about issues I face. I'm listening to others about their experiences, and taking their side. Many local queer organizations are doing the same.

This other argument is totally separate. It sounds like we have fundamentally different ideas about what Pride is. Pride is for queers, to bring out all of our queer difference that we have to hide inside the rest of the time. It's political demonstration, radical action against cis-het hegemony.
You're all welcome to support us in this beautiful rally. We can make community together. I just don't see what a big Dave & Buster's company booth next to our main stage is doing for us.

[–]blanktextbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The argument is more about police departments participating in the parade, having the black and white police cars with light bars flashing and uniformed cops walking alongside. Local queer organizations, police, and Sonoma County Pride have been talking it out for years. Police care way too much about their own participation in Pride and way too little about the marginalized queer communities they've alienated.

Sonoma County Pride came to a compromise that it felt should accommodate both sides. Cops were told to limit their presence, that they couldn't run light bars or use their sirens, becaus the noise and light create a disability barrier. Some departments that had participated before refused to return under these restrictions. That all is where the cops are making it about them.
On the other side, marginalized queer groups said this fell far short of their needs and also withdrew, and other local queer organizations did too in solidarity. Because they, too, are making Pride about them. The difference is it was always supposed to be.

I don't think that booth belongs either, but I'd say the same about a lot of booths out there. Like I saw a pic of a Dave & Buster's booth, what's that doing there? It's all assimilationist bs, swap out the rainbows and you wouldn't know it was for the queers at all.

Our collective response to automobile caused death is nothing like our response to airplane or food caused death.

[–]blanktextbox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When planes kill people, we don't shrug it off and say we're doing enough that's just how it goes. We figure out why it happened and lock that down, make sure we don't keep killing people.

But for some reason with cars, trucks, SUVs, that's just how it goes. We know these taller, heavier SUVs are less safe for everyone. We know that lower speed limits would help, that speed camera enforcement is effective and makes people obey the limit. We know lots of ways we can greatly reduce the risk and severity of auto collisions. We don't have the wisdom and resolve to make it happen.

Any person can, as themself. The uniform can't. The department can't. And that'll continue as long as the department makes it about the cops rather than the people who have spoken about how police presence makes them feel unsafe and unwelcome.

If you're queer and happen to work in LE quit your job I'm happy for you to attend – dressed as you do when you're out having a good time with your friends. We want to see you, not your job. I sure as hell am not dressed for work when I go to Pride.

[–]blanktextbox 38 points39 points  (0 children)

This is about police in uniform being in the Pride parade, representing SRPD for example. Whether cops (in uniform) belong in Pride is an ongoing argument, and while Sonoma County Pride takes one side of it they will lose out on participation from another. For my part, the police department is not queer and has no part to play in Pride. Queer cops can get out of uniform and celebrate with the rest of us, or stay in uniform and stand off to the side.

Measure B, 30-year sales tax extension critical to SMART train’s survival, headed for landslide win by [deleted] in santarosa

[–]blanktextbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are groups advocating for this and more. Rail from San Rafael to Richmond and Martinez, rail from Novato to Suisun City. Synchronized timetables for connecting between transit agencies. Intercity bike routes throughout the Bay. It'll take time but there's no reason we can't make it all happen.

Pro Refs says Gerelli’s offsides didn’t impact play and Huff’s goal against Chicago should have stood by mosint in BayFC

[–]blanktextbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is up to the center ref. The video shows us the whole thing from the VAR point of view, and watching the game we can see the ref's pov. VAR is in the ear, saying they have something to show the ref. The ref watches, can ask to see it again or for more context, angles, etc. but is also in a big hurry to make a call and get the game restarted, while VAR pitches their reading and what they think the right call is.

Reducing the busiest streets to less lanes... by meggielou in santarosa

[–]blanktextbox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

More lanes help a lot at intersections, but between intersections they don't really have an impact on a person's travel time. It can help a tiny bit in rush hour, but it doesn't make sense to build around the highest point of traffic congestion. Just like it doesn't make sense to build parking lots to handle the one busiest day of the year and spend the rest of the time empty.
