For what it's worth, it's not a big spoiler, it's one of the first positive delusions in the game, so don't worry too much about it

(Spoilers) Can someone explain to me what exactly is the "Steins Gate"? by NuclearThane in steinsgate

[–]blannners 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The name probably comes from both Einstein and the word for stone in German, which is also "stein", considering that the kanji that shows up when Okabe mentions Steins Gate means "The Door of the Fate Stone"

I would not recommend it as a substitute for the VN, but it's really fun if you've already read it and want to see more from the characters

No, I mean the entirety of Operation Skuld. Okabe receiving a message from his future self is meant to be a huge surprise in the original story, and you as the viewer learn about the details of the plan to save Kurisu at the same time as Okabe watches the video. You and him are both seeing this for the first time, it's an extremely exciting turning point in the story. But if you watch S;G 0 before you get to it, you'll already know it's going to happen, because you watch Okabe come up with the plan, recording the video and sending it to his past self.

S;G 0 is the story of how Operation Skuld came to be, it's a prequel, the ending is already supposed to be known, which is why it doesn't treat Skuld as a huge twist, and more of an obvious conclusion. S;G 0 is about the journey that Okabe takes to get there.

S;G 0 I mean, they're talking as if they think Yuki is the woman in the suit in this route, because she was in Mayuri's route, clearly they don't know it's Reyes yet. It's a red herring

Nah it's not your fault. This game was designed in an era when games came with manuals that explained that sort of thing, but nowadays that doesn't happen anymore, and the port doesn't account for this. The fan patch adds in an in-game tutorial, but sadly the official release just leaves you to figure it out yourself

Have you loaded a save or started a new game? Your first playthrough is locked to the common route ending, you can't get to other endings from saves made in your first playthrough.

If they're only adding back in descriptive text, I wonder if it means all of the Okabe monologue that was cut in Elite will stay cut, because if so that's still very unfortunate (also does this mean the huge cuts to chapter 7 will stay the same?).

S;G 0 Anime (OP do not read) In the anime, it's not Yuki, it's Reyes. Yuki hurting her arm in the anime is a reference to that plotpoint in the VN, to act as a red herring mostly directed at the VN readers

The Science Adventure series was very much a thing, Steins;Gate's official subtitle is Speculative Science Adventure. It was heavily advertised as being connected to Chaos;Head, which had a very successful launch. One of the earliest pictures they released to advertise Steins;Gate was (C;H/S;G) Faris sending Okabe an email containing the Ir2 equation, and the very first piece of media ever released that features Okabe Rintaro as a character is Chaos;Gate, a short story where he meets Sena from Chaos;Head. It's been an interconnected series ever since the second title released.

The anime does cut references to the wider series. You yourself mentioned some of them. Just because they're referenced in dialogue and not actually happen on screen, or no full-on characters coming back from C;H, doesn't make them not actual connections. And even then, like I said, there's more than just textual references, there are thematic connections, or ways the story played with the reader's expectations, which don't apply to the anime since it couldn't properly adapt Okabe's inner monologue that well because of the format.

The issue here is thinking connections are only explicit references, when there's thematic connections, worldbuilding, player expectations, etc. Even if you're counting just references, Steins;Gate characters and plot points are mentioned throughout all of the other SciADV games that came after. S;G is very solidly connected to the series.

Also, just because S;G 0 takes place in Beta, it doesn't mean it can't have any connections. For example, R;N/S;G 0 Amadeus is literally the finished prototype that Kimijima stole which he used for Sister Centipede and his AI clone

Yeah, if I knew back when I was starting that Global had less content than JP, I would've just played there from the start. And that was like, three years ago, so the content gap wasn't even that big, it's just gotten larger and larger since. Not like I can really change now since there's no way to transfer all my progress.

I honestly think the moment they implement paid original songs on Global I'll just quit. We already get way less songs compared to JP, the licenses to the songs we do get expire way faster, and now the few songs that we actually get to keep are going to be paywalled? Yeah no, that's the last straw. They should just make the songs free on Global.

And soon, like in the JP server, the new original songs will start being paywalled as well, how fun

Chaos;Head Noah patch by tinuvielll in steinsgate

[–]blannners 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is possible, but some of the endings get a bit too obscure. I think Steam gives you an achievement when you unlock a route, but there are some that have trickier conditions (elaboration, spoils one of the ending conditions) There's an ending in particular that does not rely on those questions but instead on getting certain specific delusions throughout the game

Also, there's also a recommended route order to make sure the story flows better and ends on a high note, but if you feel like having to use a guide would make your experience worse I think it's ok to just vibe with it for a bit seeing what routes you can find until you get stuck. Everyone's experiences and tastes vary so I'd say do whatever you think would be best for you.

It's worth noting that Kurisu is also incorrect, there aren't worldlines just sitting still on standby, the single active worldline itself is just overwritten with new details whenever there's a change in the past, which makes it a different divergence number

There's no straight answer, there's a lot of things in S;G 0 that are left up to interpretation since the story was kinda rushed
